bwx, 11 Oct 2010ive been waiting too long for this device..and bored alread... moreThat too is a matter of aspect. I don't deny the easiness of use, the speed and smoothness of iOS. It pretty much goes unrivaled. But there's much more to OS than just those. The phone can only do stuff the operating system supports and for me, Symbian^3 is better than iOS.

I don't need the fastest and smoothest device myself, personally I rather take one that is capable of as many things as possible, even if it didnt master any of them.

This is my opinion and you have yours, both are just as valid. It's the most important thing that we all get a phone that suits our needs the best and don't go with the masses. I'd probably be disappointed myself had I bought the iPhone. Then again, someone else who doesnt need the features of the N8 for example, would probably be disappointed cos he/she gave away the speed and smoothness of the iOS for features he/she never uses.

Wheez, 11 Oct 2010Personally I take extreme pride in my phone being made in F... moreWell, it's a great accomplishment and you should be proud and cry it out loud.
I have been using mobile phones for more than 15 years now, part of it because it is a personal love to try new things and I'm quite taken with technical terms used here and there, but not really a technical guy though :-) most of the time I read things that I can not immediately understant, terms and explanations that takes you deep into details, the real deal comes when I actually lay my hands on the device.

Confirming to what was mentioned here sometime ago (I guess it was posted by you), the main function of any brand a mobile phone first, that means communications in any term you want to put it, voice calls, video calls, sms, messengers...etc. once this function is well taken care of, the rest is an added value. Camera, e-mail clients, web browsing, music / video players and the list goes on.

As far as I'm concerned, out of trying almost every available brand and several models, Nokia managed perfectly to always be able to give us a reasonably balanced device. Touching base at various other elements in the mobile communication even if not giving a ground breaking new thing, YET, most of the devices they made managed to satisfy the end user. Looking around, I say (personally out of my experience) it's true that iPhone is the best media giant over theere, SonyEricsson might be holding the best music implementation devices, Android is a bit a mixed-bag that I can not really put my hand on their exact strength, but they do have it at least in terms of their open source code that does great job in terms of attracting developers that could be regular people like me and many others using the phone and are able to modify or improve the great work done. Samsung also shares a bit of the multimedia trophy with iPhone as well. But, as an overall "good in many ways" device, all the rest must step aside. Support and feedback response, ease of use without annoying sphistication, making things to the liking of a majority of end users and many other elements... All of them count towards a source for pride. :-)

I still have my old Nokias working in perfect condition until today, I would say (and I know a lot might not agree to that) that the best one I got was the E90. For me, this is a true demonstration of what a real communication device should be. 3 years now and I NEVER had to change a single thing in it, managed to give me all what I could ask for in a mobile device (if only it was a bit lighter ;-)) but seriously, that is a real correct step in the direction of modern communications tools. Until today, I get out of it not less than 2 complete days in a signle charge, I got the Nokia-Blackberry software on board and it works like a charm, camera is not bad, internet is really nice (aside from flash support as it does not exist), video recorder is GREAT even though it is the old VGA resolution, but the quality is impressive. Now, what other model managed to give me that... hmmmmmm, let me think, NONE! not even another Nokia! But hey, that's my personal opinion and I might have been lucky with my unit (kidding of course about lucky).

Again, you are to be proud my friend, what came out of the littel town you mentioned sure is impressive to shake and even change many parts of the communications world.

You got me interested now to go and dig out information about the history of Nokia and other manufacturers :-) Will definitely do that.

                      W. Al Hakeem, 11 Oct 2010I think the different made is related to the supplier. I go... morePersonally I take extreme pride in my phone being made in Finland. Even if the only difference is that it was finnish hand and not chinese hand that assembled the phone.

But when you look at my country. We have like less than 5,4 million people living in a country that is one of the biggest in europe (like geographically). We've never been really the center of anything but mobile phone tech. As you most likely know, Nokia is a finnish company that started it's mobile phone business in my very small hometown, Salo. I currently live 200m from the original factory, in which the N8s are also made in.

I'm just very proud of my little country and my little city that it can make something that shakes just about the whole world, just looking at these numbers (total hits) here in GSMArena and other phone sites make me happy when I think how a little city from the little country of Finland can make something so big.

But as said, once again, there's no real difference to the chinamade ones as long as you get the real stuff and not any replicas, but I'm just being patriotic here :D

Wheez, 11 Oct 2010There's no actual difference, just that the other was assem... moreI think the different made is related to the supplier. I got mine from a Nokia supplier called (Axiom Telecom) which one of the major distributers here in UAE. My friend's unit came from another source (Emirates Computers) and they are the main distributer here.

I guess as you said, it doesn't really make a difference as long as it is an original unit. I have heard stories of other replicas (specially for the iPhone) coming from China where it is very difficulat to tell the difference between them and the original ones, and they were sold as originals. I asked my uncle who lives in china about that and he confirmed that such replicas are there and you could ask for almost any model's replication, they even have grading system to the quality of the replication and of course the price differs too.

For me, I care about the after sale services (repairs and/or updates) and I am quite happy with Axiom as I've been dealing with them for more than 10 years now.

I was just wondering cos your name implied you live somewhere around middle-east and I was originally told that Finnish made phones go to europe, middle-east and africa, so I wanted to see if that still holds true. It seems to, but weird how your friend got his from China, knowing that.

Wheez, 11 Oct 2010Where are you from and what does your N8 say in the bottom ... moreFirst, I have posted some replies and forgot to put the name, sorry for that.

My N8 has made in Finland prited, I have checked with a friend of mine here at the office, he got the orange one from Emirates computers and it says made in china. Is there a difference? I never noticed the "made in" part on my phones.

Checking on the iPhone, it also says made in china.

I'm originally from Sudan, living in UAE for +30 years.

karthikeyan M, 11 Oct 2010My Personal opinion about nokia n8: Hi first of all i am... moreNot to mention that there are plenty of reasons to buy the N8 even without the camera. For me the camera was the smallest of all reasons I was buyin the N8 for. It was more like "well, at least I'll have a point and shoot quality camera always in my pocket, nice addition".

So, I didn't buy the N8 for the camera and I still wouldnt trade my N8 for 3 of any Android or iOS phones.

The camera isnt bad, you or the demo model is bad. Just look at the blind test photos. 12 mpix is only as good as the man behind the camera. You obviously sucked.

Bye bye, then, go use your Androids now and don't come back. At least don't post to exact same message every day.

                                    But nokia let me down.

the camera sucks... what ever spec they have said is true but the color the camera produces is very bad bad,Xenon flash is too bad.
                                    I own a sony c905 8mp camera, i know the pic quality diff.believe me.
Camera itself failed then wats so ever with nokia n8.I am going to buy a android mobile.
