Wheez, 11 Oct 2010There's no actual difference, just that the other was assem... moreI think the different made is related to the supplier. I got mine from a Nokia supplier called (Axiom Telecom) which one of the major distributers here in UAE. My friend's unit came from another source (Emirates Computers) and they are the main distributer here.
I guess as you said, it doesn't really make a difference as long as it is an original unit. I have heard stories of other replicas (specially for the iPhone) coming from China where it is very difficulat to tell the difference between them and the original ones, and they were sold as originals. I asked my uncle who lives in china about that and he confirmed that such replicas are there and you could ask for almost any model's replication, they even have grading system to the quality of the replication and of course the price differs too.
For me, I care about the after sale services (repairs and/or updates) and I am quite happy with Axiom as I've been dealing with them for more than 10 years now.

W. Al Hakeem, 11 Oct 2010First, I have posted some replies and forgot to put the nam... moreThere's no actual difference, just that the other was assembled in Finland and the other one in Beijing, China.
I was just wondering cos your name implied you live somewhere around middle-east and I was originally told that Finnish made phones go to europe, middle-east and africa, so I wanted to see if that still holds true. It seems to, but weird how your friend got his from China, knowing that.

Wheez, 11 Oct 2010Where are you from and what does your N8 say in the bottom ... moreFirst, I have posted some replies and forgot to put the name, sorry for that.
My N8 has made in Finland prited, I have checked with a friend of mine here at the office, he got the orange one from Emirates computers and it says made in china. Is there a difference? I never noticed the "made in" part on my phones.
Checking on the iPhone, it also says made in china.
I'm originally from Sudan, living in UAE for +30 years.

karthikeyan M, 11 Oct 2010My Personal opinion about nokia n8:
Hi first of all i am... moreNot to mention that there are plenty of reasons to buy the N8 even without the camera. For me the camera was the smallest of all reasons I was buyin the N8 for. It was more like "well, at least I'll have a point and shoot quality camera always in my pocket, nice addition".
So, I didn't buy the N8 for the camera and I still wouldnt trade my N8 for 3 of any Android or iOS phones.

Hi first of all i am... moreYou wrote this exact same message yesterday or the day before, yet you write that you went there again?
The camera isnt bad, you or the demo model is bad. Just look at the blind test photos. 12 mpix is only as good as the man behind the camera. You obviously sucked.
Bye bye, then, go use your Androids now and don't come back. At least don't post to exact same message every day.

I've posted this many time already, but I know there are people who havnt seen this and want to know real user opinions. The N8 has been out here in Finland since the last day of september, so these reviewers arnt just people who watch the N8 from youtube videos or look at specs, but real users. It's finnish so you people won't understand it, but just look at the stars people have given to the device. There are those few people who gave low stars and guess what they complain? Low RAM and lower CPU to others. I wont say for certain but most likely these people never even used the device, cos you wont notice the lower CPU or lower RAM in reality.

Wheez, 11 Oct 2010Personally I didn't find the change to Opera Mobile worth i... moreAgree to that. The only reason I used Opera is because, similar to checking the voice quality on both devices, I try always to use the same element for the comparison (same BT headset, same wired headset and for this one, same browser), this way, in my opinion, I can make better judgement on how actually the device is performing. I find it hard to define which is beter if the devices are different and the browsers are different too. Each of them will have their own approach, if we could call it, to solving a particular use, therefore, the results may vary to an unrealistic comparison.
I hope I didn't put it in a confusing way :-)

Delan, 11 Oct 2010W. Al Hakeem: I have a question, where did you buy your iph... moreI got the iPhone from Du as I got before it the 3GS and liked it, then when the iPhone came I got it from them too :-) it was (and still) AED 2,449 for the 16GB and I think AED 2,890 for the 32GB.
The N8 was from AXIOM, I made the pre-order long time ago and got it yesterday. Their retail price for it is AED 2,099 with 2 years warranty. I'm not sure if they are now selling other N8 units, as they told me they only received enough quantity for the pre-orders that were made. I asked them because I liked the blue version and wanted to get it for my wife when I went to receive mine (silver white), but the salesman told me that I can only get my pre-order unit and have to wait to get another one as they don't have enough stock yet.

W. Al Hakeem, 11 Oct 2010You're welcome my friend. I have just posted some comments... morePersonally I didn't find the change to Opera Mobile worth it, cos it still doesnt support pinch to zoom. When it does, though, it may be different.

Khan!, 11 Oct 2010I am very contented with my purchase, i purchased it for 19... moreI read this finnish mobile phone forum and the general feeling is the same overall. I've never seen as many people say how this is "The best Nokia phone ever made". That has been said even by real Nokia veterans who have used just about every high end phone Nokia has ever had the last 20 years :D
And I do agree. The best phone from Nokia I've ever used. No other device so far has ever given me a reaction like this. Before I got to use the N8, I didnt give a crap about mobile phones and smartphones. I had my E65, I could listen to music, browse the web abit, it was stylish in my eye, did the mandatory calls and SMS. I would never have thought I'd spend these hundreds of hours probably so far here on these smartphone forums. I will stop this soon though, I simply don't have the time for it with university.
The N8 has completely changed my life since the first time I got to use it for few minutes, it completely made me fall in love the very first time. Something no other device (be it laptop, phone, game console, anything) has ever managed to done.

Partha, 11 Oct 2010Thanx a lot for the comparision between iPhone and N8. It c... moreYou're welcome my friend.
I have just posted some comments on the sound quality of both few posts down. To sum it up, both are equalt in terms of sound quality for voice calls over BT headsets (both tested over the same BT model).
Speaker phone is slightly better in the iPhone, but I haven't played with the equalizer settings of the Nokia yet, it might have an effect. As they are now, upper hand is a bit towards the iPhone, but for sure not that much of a difference.
I haven't tried eaither of them on musice over wired headset. I will get one that works with both of them shortly and let you know what are the results.
Browsing is a bit hard to tell. Safari is great on the iPhone with some bits and pieces of slightly changed pages than the original layout, though it is to the benifit of making the page better on the phone's screen, I think there are some web pages that are not that much "editable", if this is the correct word, and tend to look a bit odd. This effect is also there with the Nokia browser. BUT, if you ask me, be it on iPhone or Nokia or any other device, go for the Opera browser, you'll get the same experience on any device and it is for sure better than the standard one in iPhone or Nokia.
I hope that was a bit helpful :-)

Partha, 11 Oct 2010Thanx a lot for the comparision between iPhone and N8. It c... moreAbout web browsing:
Overall I think the decices are currently pretty even (I know, bear with me).
Currently the iPhones web browsing is alot better, BUT lacks the ability to use flash. Some sites simply require it to work, and it doesnt have to do anything with videos or games. Luckily those are somewhat rare, but they are still there.
N8 has the option to have flash on or off, I personally keep it off cos usually its just flash ads like on this site. But at least I have the option to have it turned on. The browser itself is currently worse than that of the iPhone. However they said well before N8 even launched that they are making a whole new browser with the new Qt, but it wouldnt make it to the retail box. We can expect the new browser later this year.
It's not said that it will be as good/better as the iPhones, but it most likely won't be worse than the current, which isnt all that bad. The current browsers biggest problem is lacking a button for opening new windows in a controlled fashion. However there's a way to open them whenever you want, but it's abit tricky.
So with everything taken into account, I'd rather use N8s default browser than iPhones, but if we ignore flash, then the iPhones is better.
