Anonymous, 10 Oct 2010wheez did you use FM transmitor feature in N8
(I am not ... moreYes I have and it works beautifully and the sound quality was as good as my car radio could just push it. This is a real big feature for me, cos every car I would potentially drive in my life atm just has a radio and like a cassette player, no MP3 or USBs or even CDs, this lets me play good music and not rely on the radio channels selection :D
My car, my fiancees car, my moms cars, my dads car and the car I drive at work all have "just a radio", so this really is a feature I wouldn't trade away.

AMANITA, 10 Oct 2010Yo yo congratz ! 6 million hitz ! Have a question in my m... moreEither it can't be changed or none of the default themes have set any other color than black for it (which I doubt). I'd like to get it in a different color too, but then again, I open the menu VERY rarely. I access everything via the homescreens. Those are customizable :D

hani, 10 Oct 2010i would like to ask wheez a question about the browser.
... moreI never really close the browser, cos I always keep 3+ tabs open in it and with the current browser they are abit annoying to open cos no dedicated button for that. So far it hasnt closed itself.
What do you want to know about the cache? The default browsers cache goes to C:/ sadly, so in theory you might be able to fill the 140mb it has free there with cache files, but I'm not sure if you'd be able to do that in 2 years. Personally I'm used to my laptop deleting all temp. files apart from passwords every time I close the browser, so I regularly delete all privacy stuff from the N8 browser too apart from passwords.

Wheez, 10 Oct 2010I wouldnt judge the whole UI just cos it looks the same. Al... moreAnd I'll say this too, my old phone was E65 that was nothing like the touch screen Symbians till now (this meaning that I'm not familiar with modern Symbians), and I've yet to have open to manual myself once. I've found the Symbian^3 extremely easy to use and stuff is in logical places.
Not a single thing has been left undone cos the UI was too hard to use. Don't blindly jump on the bandwagon cos the American journalists are too used to different operating system to be able to adapt to Symbian.

Anonymous, 10 Oct 2010Engineer Man, you can copy & paste string text.
Firs... moreengineer man and all having doubt about copy paste
i think you never used your phones properly....
even in s40 versions copy and paste facility was there in options... and also in s60.... from the start
and all e series (personally having in family e63, e71) have "ctrl c" and "ctrl v" shortcut as they have extra button "ctrl"

punky88, 10 Oct 2010Nokia is really a great mobile maker.. But one thing sucks ... moreI wouldnt judge the whole UI just cos it looks the same. Alot of its functionality was changed too. No more double taps to get stuff done. Presenting a press & hold command to open bigger menus. Alot less "Do you want to [Yes] [No]. Even if it looks the same, it really doesnt function the same.
I'm not sure if you've given it a try yet, but try if possible, I'm very pleased with the Symbian^3, very well optimized for touch screen devices and I really don't get whats the talk about it being hard to use. Ok, I give it that you can do alot more than just have a single tap do everything, but thats the price you pay for having features and functionality.
I hate to use this argument, but back when I was younger, reading the manual was a granted thing. I rather have to check the manual a few times that have a dumbed down operating system cos some people are too lazy to open the damn manual. But luckily, thats the beauty of having diversity in the phones and operating systems, everyone can pick what fits them the best.
I really suggest to not judge Symbian^3 cos of older Symbians unless if it's ONLY about the visual look staying the same. Windows 7 doesnt suck cos Windows Vista sucked.

Nokia is really a great mobile maker.. But one thing sucks in NOKIA, thats UI(user interface). S60V5 sucks in 2 aspects- hardware and UI. but symbian has very good applications, games. And in symbian^3(n8) everything rocks, UI sucks again.. What i like about android and iOS is interface. For example look at Parlingo(IM application). It has excelllent interfac on android, iphone and even Bada, but look its version for symbian? It looks like hell. No good graphics, buttoned interface?? Symbian application development doesnt provide developers to develop applications with good UI(I think so).. look at fring, nimbuzz, and a lot of multiplattform applications.. I want to get N8 but n8 sucks in interface, but camera is best, USB OTG(oh my god, i dont believe a phone can have this), music is excellent, everything is good, and nokia's support is best. But because of interface(i dont think it is useable) i am really confused between N8 and htc desire..

Engineer Man, you can copy & paste string text.
First use your finger to mark and then uses the copy & paste & cut commands from "three-dash key" in the screen keyboard.
I have heard in E7, you can have hot key "ctrlc + v" to do the job.
About web browser, wait for the next major firmware update which will includes the new web browser built on QtWebkit. The new web browser will be a lot faster n user friendly.

[deleted post]See, you failed. I bring you proof how its exactly on par with the others, you have given zero proof of anything you've said so far. You can't win this battle.
The Xenon flash is very powerful, it nearly blinds if you photo people with it :D The speaker can be made loud enough to at least feel uncomfortable in my ear from like 1m away, I never use it on full volume due to that. The display, like most current diplays short from Nokia Clear Black Displays, are pretty bad when looked at while the sun/light is coming directly to the screen.

[deleted post]Taking those things into account, it's funny how even the N8 is with those smartphones that have a 1Ghz CPU and 512mb RAM.
http://www.glbenchmark.com/compare.jsp?benchmark=glpro11&showhide=true&certified_only=1&D1=Nokia%20N8&D2=Apple%20iPhone%204&D3=Samsung%20i9000%20Galaxy%20S&D4=HTC%20Evo%204G
See it yourself.
As for Engineer Man, the browser is one odd bird. It completely supports multible windows/tabs, but has no button to open one manually! There's a workaround for it. I have always 3+ tabs open on my N8. Either way, a new browser is coming later this year so don't think they will bother fixing the current browser much till that.

karthikeyan M, 10 Oct 2010My Personal opinion about nokia n8:
Hi first of all i am... morego and check again those pics in your laptop or computer.
The thing is that, pics are of very high resolution, on mobile screen full resolution & colors cant be reflect and also becuase of screen resolution and other settings its difficult to judge it with any phone. And if you are comparing with high-end digicam then its a diferent story. Compare it with a mobile phone in similar price range.
And plz keep in mind android is too slow OS. Its upto you but you should know why you are rejecting & why you should purchase. Dont reject or purchase b/c of one feature. Purchase only if feel fully satisfied b/c half hearted purchase always make you thing negative about phone whether actually problem would be with phone or not, you will blame your phone.

Hi Wheez. Thanks, I'm glad to be back! :) I would like to wait for the final review tho first. It might be my next phone.
I'm still thiking heavily about which platform I invest my money in & keep re-considering all the options, benefits, disadvantages, advantages, features, improvements, strategies, performance.
Ok it's always been a given that product support, bugs, fixes, improvements take time even with Nokia, not so sure about other manufacturers. But the support is there years down the line, Nokia have trust in the past, have had reliability in the past, experience in the past, do I have this trust in other manufacturers?
The thing is. Symbian has always given me it's mature functionality, compatibility, customizability, wide range of application support, interoperability. It's been widely adapted for the purposes I've needed it for. It's done them well.
But I have also been crying out for the added benefit of newer features, but I probably know why they haven't added them to the particular phone. I've had memory full issues, freezes, but only occasionally & they are fixable & also minor problems that don't occur regularly.
Things like flash support have annoyed me. Web browser & multiple window, pages weren't there. Copy & paste wasn't there for text strings. Although it's possible to copy images from web browser. These were probably rightly decidedly left out due to memory limitations anyway.
S^3 should change all this. I'm very curious & keen to try S^3. But also I'd like to have a taste of Android also. The freedom of drag & drop also is nice with Android for any type of shortcut, widget, more homscreens, live wallpapers. They have the web browser functions that Symbina doesn't have.
My next buying decision is going to be based clearly in technology, features, functionality. The kinds of things Symbian doesn't yet have that I have pointed out. Things I'm look for to be there. The touch controls & gestures. Also the swype support of Android with HTC Sense or BADA.
I guesse I'll wait & see for a while.

Thank you everyone for your constructive feedback on this device, I know so much more about it. I am also confused why the owners of unsupported plastic smartphones come here to show their lack of insight... but
6 MILLION HITS, and its not even out everywhere! 110.000 Votes and one of the highest scores, even with all the haters out there!
Awesome!
