Mhz mean nothing unless you state the OS ! On win95 1Ghz is lighting fast but in win7 is not even booting ! ! ! 500Mhz on Symbian is like 1Ghz on Android ! Symbian had almost 10 years to fix issues, android only had a little over 1 year :-)

    It is the first Nokia phone to every hit the 12mp-mark for the camera. I don’t know why they’re aiming for higher megapixels on such a small device but maybe there are still lots of people thinking that the more mp the better.
    Anyhow, here are the specs of the Nokia N8:

    The Nokia N8 looks more like a portable media player than a phone and it’s a little on the thick side for a touch phone. The processor is not that fast (most flagship phones now feature 1GHz proc) but the graphics accelerator is a huge advantage for playing movies and videos. There’s a lot of high expectation with the Symbian ^3 OS as well.

      I'm just not sure why you would say that webOS is the future. I don't see any must have hardware, any must have software, any must have OS features, any forward thinking, any real usability advantages. This guy isn't necessarily stating anything inherently false, but he does avoid talking about a lot of things that really should be explored further if this is going to be a real comparison.

      webOS is the result of a continuation of Palm backward thinking and bad design decisions. There is a reason they fell out of the public eye, and there is a reason that people are only sort of fawning over webOS. Okay, it's not horrible. For one thing, webOS is WAY better than iOS will ever be. But as good as Android? A fully open platform that promotes openness? No, I don't think so. *

      webOS, for one thing, is slow at updates... and their progress on fixes is completely hidden. Android, on the other hand, is a fully open project that anyone can track bugs against, and anyone can vote for and view the progress of issues that they are having easily through Google Code.

      *) Just as a sidenote, Palm is doing a lot to promote Open Source so... credit where credit is due

        Nokia N8 looks and feels every bit a flagship release. Clad in anodized aluminum, the phone feels very solid in the hand and exudes an aura of corporate elegance. Its 3.5-inch touchscreen, on the other hand, looked sharp from the short time I spent with the device while response to touch gestures was instantaneous.

        What I particularly like about N8's design identity is that it speaks to you about what the phone can offer. The chrome accents, the color options and the form factor itself give the impression that Nokia N8 is a more-than-capable multimedia device. It's kinda like just looking at a tiger and knowing that it's built for the kill or looking at a Panasonic Toughbook and knowing for sure that it could take a beating.

        I've yet to receive an N8 review unit from Nokia so I can't really share much about its features and specifications as yet. I'm actually very excited to try out the handset and share feedback on the immersive experience.

          The Nokia N8 introduces a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics, Xenon flash and a large sensor that rivals those found in compact digital cameras. People can also make HD-quality videos and edit them with an intuitive built-in editing suite.

          The Nokia N8 offers a true home theater experience with HD quality film and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound. You can plug the device to your home theatre system with an HDMI cable.

          The Nokia N8 enables access to local and global Web TV services that deliver TV programs, news and entertainment from channels such as CNN, National Geographic, E! Entertainment and Paramount directly on the homescreen.

          People can update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds from Facebook and Twitter in a single app directly on the home screen. Calendar events from social networks can also be transferred to the device calendar.

          The Nokia N8 comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation, taking you where you want to be and showing you what want to see in over 70 countries worldwide.

          The Nokia N8 has 16GB of in-built storage space, expandable up to 48GB with a Micro SD card. Large files can be easily transferred to a memory stick with the USB On-the-Go.

          With this announcement, Nokia is offering developers a new platform to innovate on. The Nokia N8 comes integrated with Qt, a software development environment that simplifies the development and makes it possible to build applications once and deploy across Symbian and other software platforms. Nokia has also made the simple to use Nokia Qt SDK available, in its initial beta, to enable developers to start realizing the potential of Qt.

          The Nokia N8 will be available in select markets during the third quarter of 2010.

          The Nokia N8 marks the global device debut of the new Symbian^3 software, featuring several major advancements:

          Usability enhancements across the user interface, including single tap, multi-touch and support for gestures such as “pinch-to-zoom.”

                  My desktop has a 3.2ghz processor with 4gb ram and runs windows xp professional. My laptop has a 2.2ghz processor with 3gb ram. It takes my desktop twice as long as my laptopto start up microsoft encarta . It takes an imbecile to assume higher processor work rates mean faster speeds. I'm sick of dumb posts like that. 1ghz my ass.

                  A 2ghz intel dual core processor processes data faster than a 2.2ghz amd turrion. THE ONLY THINGS YOU CAN KNOW FOR SURE BY THE WORK RATE OF A PROCESSOR ARE HOW MUCH POWER IT CONSUMES AND HOW MUCH HEAT IT PRODUCES. Higher work rates don't necessarily mean faster processors talk less how fast the device it powers runs. Be rational.

                  You whose complaining about the battery. My nokia n95 8gb user a 1200mah battery. My pals n900, a 1500mah. He charges his phone every night. I, every other day.

                      WTF is taking Nokia too long to release this product? if this is not available in the market within july, i'll move on to samsung galaxy s...very nice fone as i found out as i borrow my sister's fone...for a good camera, i'm gonna go for samsung nx10! never mind if i have to take 2 devices at a time...goodbye nokia by then!!!

                              Anonymous, 26 Jul 2010I think if you don't like it, you should not post here at a... moreso you mean i have to promote the n8 or otherwise keep silent,i guess not,because if the people do not ask for the missing features the company will not respond,and we still have a chance with the n8 because it is still not released,and yes the performance of the phone is good but not for gamers or the people who want the iphone game performance.
                              we don't want the n97 embarrassing performance when compared to iphone.

                                      i think people here ,should ask nokia to increase the processor speed and the ram size of the phone ,and not just spreading the lies about how the phone is not suffering from any issues,also they should stop posting long meaningless opinions.
                                      some one yesterday gave a link on the youtube for a rally game on the n8,the graphics are very nice but the gamers will notice that far objects (like the trees)in the game appears suddenly when the car approaches,and this effect is due to low ram which can not accommodate many details on the screen in the same time.
