Wow see meego os in cars!;

see how Meego will be popular is! it will kill ios and android!

MeeGo becomes infotainment operating system of choice for BMW, GM, Hyundai and more

It's getting to the point where it's not terribly easy to keep track of all the in-car entertainment initiatives our wondrous connected future has in store, but here's two names you'll want to remember: GENIVI and MeeGo. The former is an industry alliance that now includes automakers GM, BMW, Hyundai and Peugeot Citroen alongside the likes of ARM, NVIDIA, Nokia and Intel, and MeeGo is the Linux-based OS that they've just decided will soon be powering our cars. Don't expect this to affect your daily drive anytime soon, but in the long run we wouldn't be surprised to hear that the Moblin-Maemo base underpins future revisions of Terminal Mode and OnStar

Meego is a Linux based platform that will support a vast range of devices including netbooks, tablets, phones, and more. It was created last February by Intel and Nokia with the merge of their Moblin and Maemo platforms. The first Meego-powered Nokia device is expected later this year.

“We selected MeeGo as the open source basis for our platform because it is technically innovative and can provide the cross architecture build support we require for our references,” said Graham Smethurst, President of GENIVI. “Working with MeeGo we expect to establish a solution that effectively merges IVI needs with those of the other MeeGo target device categories.”

The announcement shows a lot of potential and I’m anxious to see how it will be implemented. An example I can imagine is planning a trip on your computer or phone, then syncing with your car IVI for drive navigation. Once you find a parking spot around your destination, you can use the phone to navigate you the rest of the way.

        Anonymous, 26 Jul 2010nokia N8 or Samsung Beam? Samsung Beam relsed july 17, 2... moreDear friends who're waving between Symbian and Android,

        Symbian is the most popular mobile OS so far and there is no doubt about it... Few years back Symbian was the one and only (significant) Smart OS but now there are plenty of them... (Even apple calls their OS as Smart OS though I really doubt it...)

        Windows mobile, Android both can be considered as competitively smart OSs compared to Symbian OS.. (I mean Symbian S60 V3 and S60 V5) However you may want to check out the statistics... (Users by millions)

        Year 2007
        =========
        Symbian OS: 77.7
        Windows mobile: 14.7
        Android: 0

        Year 2009
        =========
        Symbian OS: 80.9
        Windows mobile: 15.0
        Android: 5.8

        As you can see, Android is getting more and more popular and it's true... I will say, there are two reasons for that...

        1) People want a change from Symbian interface (Not because it has so many problems.. Just because people want a change once in a while)
        2) Symbian didn't introduce its modern version (that's Symbian 3) on time and so many people fed up of waiting for it.. (Symbian 1 was introduced on 2008 and we had to wait 2 more years for the next version... But Android updated to the next version within a year..)

        However, still, Symbian is the No 01 Smart mobile OS on planet.. and it's not only me saying it.. Millions of people who're using Symbian, they are the evidence for my statement.. Please search google what is the biggest market share in the world... Regarding OS, it's Symbian... (always was... and always will be...!) and regarding the mobile brand it's Nokia... (always was... always will be...!)

        Note: I know I can't really say 'always will be' (Sorry for that.. But there is no single sign of a drop in the Mobile market of Nokia...)

        I personally think, above 2 reasons I mentioned will be obsoleted when Symbian 3 released... So I'm pretty sure, Nokia N8 will be a market hit for Nokia and Symbian OS will secure it's place as the most beloved and trusted smart mobile OS so far..

        So, after 2011, the statistics will be something like below...

        Year 2011
        =========
        Symbian OS: 108.2
        Windows mobile: 11.1
        Android: 12.4

        I know this is just a prediction... We have to wait and see..
        (Note: I didn't include i-phone OS in to this list... Because I personally don't consider Apple OS as a smart OS.. Logically it is not..)

          Considering N8 price tag and all the feature (especially camera), it will probably sell quite well. It probably won't get the mindshare from iphone and android, but in september/october we should get annoucement about MeeGo and symbian^4. N9, smartphone with atom processor, nokia tablet ?

          I hear that Nokia only plans on one MeeGo device per year and if that is true then here is another poor decission by OPK and team. If he thinks N8 will be equal in user experience to iphone then again he is out of touch with the market completely. It would take an all out effort in Nokia to get MeeGo to catch up and race by iPhone & Android, which does not seem to be part of his plans.

          I want to hear about "previews" until an actual production unit comes out because "early N8 previews were not positive" only puts bad tastes in disbelievers' mouths before it actually is released. Nokia, although, should have put a tighter leash on this device, before the public courts doom it before they finally release it.

            History

            The previous phone from the Nseries was the N97 with touchscreen which was criticized for its earlier firmware issues. Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia's Executive Vice President for Markets, said in an interview that software quality control will be better than for the N97.[5]

            The N8 will be the first device by Nokia with the Symbian^3 operating system. Symbian^3 was scheduled for the second quarter of 2010 but was pushed back to the third quarter.[6]

            The previous Nokia phone with a focus on photography is the N86 8MP, which has an 8 Megapixel sensor and has been available since June 2009.[7]

            The N8 will be the second Nokia to have a capacitive touchscreen, following the X6, but the first with multi-touch.

                                  Symbian OS spec requirement is low.
                                  Thus 680mhz CPU + GPU + 256mb RAM will make it fast enough.
