on my s60 samsung g810 i can install all programs on microsd, it has 112.4M ram of which 69.6m is free. i've even had over 20 apps running, including 5 java games and that was when i first encountered memory errors. so s^3 should be able to cope with 256m ram, and installing all your programs on removable or fixed memory is always an option

it made a bad impression on the phone already from this prototype

but they still have 2 months to fix this problem and others like that horrid scroll bar

it shouldn't be their if they have kinetic scrolling already

they MUST have it REMOVED it's looking unattractive in this beautiful recreation of symbian

Well S^3 has a new revamped & improved code Micro kernel. The OS now has a Hardware Abstract Layer which alone will allow the OS to more coherently integrate support of various technologies to run within S^3 & newer 4 + OS's.

The Qt platform certainly opens the OS to any developer, third party vendor, operator, & the community developers. Qt works with webkits that allow more widgets which are built to work with Android or other platform to run on S^3. Surprising how powerful Qt really is.

Again Virtual memory could be a first for S^3 which should help. I do have another gripe. Android OS let's the programmer define the actual size/shape of a widget & allows you to move them anywhere onscreen. You can also allow app shortcuts from the homscreen. Symbian foundation need to integrate this type of customization into the framework of the developer tools. Qt might allow this.

But 256mb is twice as much as my Nokia 5800 for instance. So the general apps that we use the most, how much memory this time round do they use. I'd like to see several of most memory intensive tasks running & see how much mem they use & how much is free.

How much memory do each of the widgets 18 across three homescreens plus wallpapers, live animated wallpapers & other running apps actually use at the stage of fimrware currently. IF S^3 is supposed to be more efficient with memory ie. smaller apps, programmes less processes less memory more free memory. Also does the GPU share some of the sysster RAM or does it use it's own memory? These are all things I'd like to know since S^3 implements more visual eye candy. This is going to effectivly use more memory than S60 5th edition. Unless like I said they can reduce the memory footprint for all apps & the general OS hungryness & less processes. I think it will be worser than S60 for this reason but how much so.

Actually I have seen memory full errors popping up in some of the preview vids but these were probably BETA, alpha, pre alpha tests running lots of debugging soft in hte background. I personally have an issue with the amount of phone memory available. Although with phones like the BADA samsung Wave 2GB & 390mb us user space left. I argue that the user space is going to be used by OS programs which will use it & lower the amount of memory available. Unless they figure out how to implement another partition or move the S^3 OS programmes to another memory space other than C:PHONE such as. Allow S^3 to take advantage of plenty of MEM as much as android or more. Create a few paritions & allow mapping of OS programmes to use a seperate but same amount of memory space or to just use a external memory card to store them on. I heard Android are working on are or were currently in the middle of implementing such things. Personally 150 odd free space is something to worry about. Since S^3 has is able to store many more apps or widgets or homescreen data etc... If thisi s after several or more MEM demanding tasks are running then I will probably be ok. I heard that S^3 may have a swap file integrated this time round, AKA virtual page file. This might definately help against memory full errors with 256mb of RAM only. Such as 760 odd mb more of virtual mem. I don't know. But it will help as a cache when running out of or low on RAM etc...

ALonZo, 05 Jul 2010Flashlite 4? Your kidding right? Thats called dodgy flash s... more*Flash Lite 4.0 first found on Nokia N8*
With the release of Nokia N8 and Adobe CS5, the
Flash Lite 4.0 is also unveiled and Nokia N8
becomes the first smartphone which support
                          Flash Lite 4.0!
It's sad that Apple doesn't support Flash content
on their handsets, but Nokia gives us the chance
to get various Flash content on their phones.
Flash Lite 4.0 will support ActionScript 3.0 which
means a lot of nice online Flash games will be
available on Nokia phones in the future. And
what is excited, Flash Lite 4.0 will support multi-
                          touch, geolocation and accelerometer.
With the success of MyPhone which is based on
Flash Lite 3.0, we will develop more new Flash
Lite apps based on the new FL 4.0 to bring you
the coolest experience on Nokia phones.

The Satio did not impress me one single bit. The phone's response rate was not what you expect of a phone of that price range. And the N8 looks pretty much on the same boat to me.
