C-note blaq, 13 Jun 2010Talking abt battrey life. How about this, the Galaxy s has ... more@C-note blaq

I think we are at cross purposes here. i was comparing N8 (680Mhz) with N97mini (400something Mhz). hell yes they have same proc architecture and the N8 may req more power due its higher clock. Look what i am trying to say that the combination of AMOLED and S^3 has been overrated to justify the 1200mAh battery.

In may theory, Nokia was facing the trade off between sacrificing the battery's compartment and reducing the touch phone's thickness. Nokia has a bad record on the latter. The firm earliest foray into touch phone market was a phone with 15.5mm thick (5800). Still, its best effort so far is 13.8mm (X3). I believe nokia needs more time to pass the learning curve. Bear in mind other competitors have done better (do u really want me to say the firm whose logo is 'a fruit with a first bite on it'?)

It is natural then for nokia to choose a small battery. I know it's hard to create a phone that matches everybody's cup of tea. What i want to emphasis here that the N class focuses on camera and entertainment shit. It may not be a reliable phone. Be prepared to bring your charger. umm don't forget the screwdriver as well. coz when your n8 hang (during early firmware), you might need that!

C-note blaq, 13 Jun 2010Talking abt battrey life. How about this, the Galaxy s has ... moreYour loyalty to nokia is commendable..

but let me point two things..

      1. Android is not a complex OS. Ppl will laugh at you for saying that. Samsung and HTC have been adding powerful processors to their phones to prevent a lag and yeah it does drain battery. But not even symbian is bug free.. and there r a lotta freezing problems. But, symbian is more stable as it is studied and perfect over years.. Its not just about eye candy all the time.

      2. There are other nokia phones with Inbuilt graphics accelerator. Nokia n900 for example is the most powerful phone they ever released with Maemo platform and a dedicated graphics accelerator.

Engineer Man, 12 Jun 2010Our interest is getting hit by apple sheep all over. We nee... moresee, i love nokia, i am a dedicated fan. But the current phone i have Nokia N97, the touchscreen is bad bad bad....! i mean if it is a touchscreen phone...means u will touch it, and if the screen hangs...then what is the point of such a touchscreen phone? tht is a very sad and disappointing!
iPhone on the other hand obviously has the best technology in regards to the touchscreen....that might just pull the consumers :(

like i am really liking this phone...N8, probably my next phone. but i am hoping the touchscreen will work better and wont be a disappointment like N97?

How about this, the Galaxy s has a talk time of 13h 30min (2G) & up to 6h 30min (3G) & 750h 2G / UP to 576h 3G, stand-by. 1500mAh. Thats a whole Month stand-by. A Pal has been using this phone for a week now & he says that the battrey life is as screwed up as in iphones Aghhh isheep, especially while multitasking. That's it dies really fast. Why? Because it uses a very complex Android OS which needs a powerful ARM Cortex A8 1ghz processor to run smoothly as compared to a simple symbian OS which is user friendly, very stable with very few or no bugs at all. Why? Because its Cpu is ARM 11 680 Mhz processor. Which means it wount consume as much power as the cortex a8 does & also incorporates the GPU which makes processing data alot smoother jst like in the N82, which is one of the best phones Nokia has ever made. There are only 2 phones in Nokias history that incorporate a GPU. Thats The n82 & the yet to be released N8. Ope this helps.

A: There is a boosted D-class mono speaker for hands free. It means there’s a better audio quality and volume even with a single speaker.

The N8 is a respectable piece of hardware and a must have for me. Even I could bare the 12 MP camera. I would prefer the 8 MP camera-module from Carl Zeiss of the N86 - with more space left in this device for a 32 GB memory-module and the BP-L4 battery with 1500 mAh. Hopefully, Nokia will consider this in another N8-XX-version.

I do not see why i will struggle with N8 at all.

Battery life does not matter much for me.
I am carrying a portable charger that can charge all the devices with usb charging support.

So battery life is never a problem for me.

I will still go for N8.

Guys N8 specs are really mind-blowing. But when you scrutinise the batteries under the microscope you will realise it's power horse is a downer. Don't rant about how AMOLED and supposedly optimised S^3 would safe your batteries coz those features may only give little help.

                                        let's consider this:
Nokia N97 Mini has 1200mAh and so does n8. The former has 320(2g)/310(3g) and up to 7h10m(2g)/6h(3g) for stand by time and talk time respectively. Meanwhile N8's standby time is a bit better (390 for 2g and 400 for 3g), however, the phone's talk time (12h30m for 2g and 5h30m for 3g) is surprisingly shorter-especially on the 3g mode.

You should focus on the talk time here instead of the standby time; after all you always want to make your self look "busy" by playing with your phone. And taking into account how the manufacturer often exaggerate the phone specs you should expect the worse case scenario. Simply to put you might need to recharge every two days for moderate use. For comparison My 5800 can stand for about 3 days for constant abuse.

With a bit of conspiracy theory going on, i think nokia is struggling to slim down its touch phone line. To overcome this nokia may have opted to use a small battery. I know that this may sound absurd. but if you have read the interview with Damian Dinning, his responses on this matter are far from clear. Why on earth DESIGN overrules the battery location? the most reasonable explanation would be there was no room for improvement on the phone thickness. And remember the aluminium jacket can only be applied when everything is in place.

would i wait for N8? a quick answer nah. If you're a symbian hardcore better stay with your current phone and avoid the N8 bandwagon. N8 is nokia's layover before the firm push Meego and S^4 to the mass.
