So Now my dear Niraj, this has been the case since last 2 years. Nokia has always been slow and behind its competitors and thats why they lost a huge market share last year...If you say N8 will be the best gadget when its available, I can only say LETS HOPE SO. But its so sad as Nokia has always have faithfull consumers like you and still they have not achieved what they should have in past few years.

[deleted post]Today today today no Nokia can have same specs like Vivaz and Satio but Tomorrow Tomorrow No phone can beat N8 except samsung ( only due to Super Amoled). Even in future if others will bring 15 mp do you think they can beat N8. No because they will still choose small sensor. And for your kind information all these vivaz, satio and omnia hd are not so famous but N8 will be. Do you know why..? Because Nokia has released N8 on right time. Nokia was first to bring 28 mm wide optics on phone and then others has copied them. And the optical trackpad you are saying was brought by htc first. And this type of technology was already used on optical mouse.
If you want a n8 type phone today go for some other phone. No one is preventing you to buy them..

If symbian^3 os fails to impress then they will loose the grip in mobil market. Nokia products are best interms of battery life but they are still immature in finger friendly touch ui, look at the ui s of se, samsung and htc....looks nice and feels good....afterall first impression is best know....in symbian any screens are not customizable....you have to improve nokia.

Rajesh, 02 Jun 2010Recently E72 was launched about 5 months delay and it ultim... moreYes the N97 was a miss hit for Nokia. I did look forward to it and although I did not buy it myself, did recommend it for a friend (and I do feel guilty about that). I am not insulting the current users of N97 who are happy with the devices but just pointing out for the price it was launched with, it came with a lot of issues that the users had to put up with until the recent updates. In-fact, now for the price (originally it sold at about RM 2450, now its dropped to RM16++) and its updated software, I think its a pretty good qwerty/touchscreen hybrid device.
Am I completely confident the N8 will be the best, maybe but I really can't tell for obvious reasons. But since my last Nokia, N95 this is the first device (and I do mean among all makers) that seems to tick all the boxes for me and at the end of the day, that is what is important for me.

But recently I do notice that's not the case with their products (X6 was launched barely 2 months after its announcement). And you must admit the unfortunate leak of the N8 by the Eldar fella forced them to announce it early.

There is no sort of thing that any special hardware required to play divx, its a licensing issue between Nokia and third party company having patent on divx codecs. But third party players does the job very well especially Dvd player & the smart movie players.

Tom-Helge, 02 Jun 2010Like i have said many times already, i'm not trying to stop... moreTom,

For some reason my post to you did not come through yesterday, leaving only the short addendum for you to misundertand, which you obviously did. So, first: Sense UI is not bad in itself, (Timescape & Mediascape are me thinks but still) What is bad for consumers, including you at this very moment, is that the custom UI, the one made because the Android one is actually not that great, needs to be reworked in new iterations. This delays access to new versions for phones other than the Nexus 1, and is the reason I think your lifetime support will be limited, in the end.

Here is my original post (I see someone else has lectured u on some more technical details, and judging from your shallow response, you STILL do not understand that you cannot compare this to you computer. I think that is the reason you screw up the reasoning all the time)

How i know XPERIA X10 will get Android 3.0?.

Well lifetime support is lifetime support no matter how you want that to be.

-- No Lifetime Support is Support to the end of the average lifetime they expect of the phone, which is around 18 months. You did not expect to support the phone fully for another 4 maybe 6 years. Them recreating timescape 10 times and all. I am sure SE is a nice company, but there are limits, and you will see them in the life of your X10. In finance we have a saying that past ROI is not a guarantee for future ROI. I think that applies to SE, given their financial troubles.

I have been promised alot of stuffs from Sony Ericsson in all of those years i have used their products.
And guess what, then have ALWAYS given me the things they have promised.

                                      Spoken like a true fanboy.

Now, how can you prove that to be wrong?.

When they have given me all of the promises to now, then they will still be giving me the things they always promise. I believe them now after so many years. And it would be a disaster for them to lie about something they promise.Simply because alot of customers would be really pissed off about that then. And that's not doing business. That's losing cutomers and money in the long run. Ofc, Sony Ericsson needs more money when they make new phones and that, but we have already payed so much for our XPERIA X10 that the lifetime support is worth it on the XPERIA X10.

Yes, you paid A LOT of money for your X10, and now you HOPE they will support it until Android 3.0 You hope, you do not know.

And no, as long i can run everything smooth and very fast in 2-3 years, then the phone is not outdated that way.

Dude, you have no idea of the kind of progress Android can make, games can make, hardware can make. If anything the rate of absolution (if applicable at all) will increase. With the extremely crappy GPU on the X10, your phone will stutter at the games that come out next year. Its normal, its not because SE is a bad company, its progress. Its the graphical aspects, like I indicated before, that need headroom, not the cpu.

Nokia N8 is already outdated before it's released since it most likely can't run Symbian ^4 lol.
                                      How fail is that?.

Its not fail because it is not true. S^3 & S^4 are just names for twice yearly releases from the SF, and S^3 Qt apps can run on S^4, and the S^4 apps run on S^3. (Note that S60 5th apps will not run on S^4, which is why it is good we have this dual purpose S^3) All of the real optimization has been done, S^4 will use a different technology for the UI layer, but in core functionality S^3 is already ahead of anything Android up to 3.0. It is a fact. So, you may argue that the N8 will be obsolete because a new version will come out, but that is bullshit, because by the same token, your phone is already obsolete when it came out, since there is a newer OS out. You see, only the UI part the N8 will not get. In any case, I would call and OS with more functionality than ANY other mobile OS out there anything but obsolete. You can nag about the UI, but then again, you are using timescape which can only make me laugh.

In 2 years, then Symbian ^3 is long gone and forgotten and no one will make any programs for it. And while i can run a new and updated OS in 2 years where every developers are supporting the new OS, so i'll get all of the nice applications and that kind of stuffs then on my XPERIA X10.
This is what i'm trying to tell. Nokia N8 have already lost and been outdated the day Symbian ^4 is released.

Sigh. Listen, Android is slow as hell, because it runs in the Dalvik VM on top of stripped down Linux, so apps can run on different hardware. Its a Virtual Machine, inherently inefficient, needing more C P U (see now it IS important) to make the VM run, and also do some graphical tasks. Nokia, through their purchase of trolltech, have Qt, which is quite possible a revolution. It is a much more efficient way of doing cross platform development, runs on mac, windows, linux, meego, symbian. etc. Computex is going now, and both Acer and Asus announced MeeGo notebooks. Which means Apps in Qt, which means, insane amount of real apps, not the java games you X10 can play. Please note, I am very confident your device will get its ass handed to it severely by even an underspecced phoned like the N8, in the gaming department. That same speed will make the UI fly. Anywhoo, I digress.

Ofc Nokia N8 will runs nice and smooth today, but that doesn't help much for the future.

You are so full of bull. You cant have it both ways. First you say the N8 will not get S^4, then you say it doesn't help for the future when the very fact it will continue to run S^3 means it will continue to run that fast. Elementary really.

Now, I gave you numbers, real benchmarks, solid reasoning and you have not responded in fashion. You just regurgitate your I believe SE because they are nice mantra. Give me numbers, facts and benchmarks or stop spreading this FUD. For a mid range phone, the N8 will kill the X10 based on gaming, multimedia, build quality, feature richness and reception. You can keep your plastic, battery draining, snapdragon sporting, vm with a higher clockspeed, thank you very much. And yes you paid A LOT for it.

                                      Please only respond with numbers.

[deleted post]If you watch the history of Nokia, they have a tendency to introduce their line up of future gadgets sometimes even 6 months before it is actually launched. Whereas other companies like HTC, SE, Samsung, Blackberry do introduce their future plans with specs about 2 months before the launch...So N8 is on the net...you can see it...its scheduled for a 3rd Quarter launch. I assume before N8 is launched you will be able to witness various other gadgets from other companies and that will definitely assist you in making a final decession. So as I said Nokia has always followed its competitors since last 3 years time. By the time N8 will hit the shelves you will see others already in market or on the edge to be available. Last year Nokia has lost a major market share and it seems this year they will still keep the trend...I feel sorry for them but they themselves are to be blamed...
