hey and what if itmeets the fate of sym 5 as in n97,mini and other devices.if it fails nokia will just go for developing a new platform and its we who will be left over with limited apps.tell me if n97 will be offered the update of sym 3.the answer is no,a big NO.but see, google has been offering android updates over 1.6 to 2.1 eclair to 2.2 froyo.so we dont get to taste the new ui cause of lack of hw support.is that it?also with that gui hw dont forget ,n8 has only 256mb ram,so it wont render that smoothness, when multiple apps are open.m xperiencin it dude..my n97 has 128 mb ram,but only 40-45 mb ram is left for usage when it boots.so lets hope 256mb on n8 offers atleast half the ram for usage.and am too sure that 1200mah battery is not going to last even for hours with xenon flash,720p hd video recording and hdmi out.it will drain out like a china fone

Saurabh, 28 May 2010i can bet that anodized finishing will wear off in less tha... moreFirst This is not N97 its N8. Second I will advice you to compare both N8 and N97 in your hands when it will available..
Dont be just fooled by custom eye catching ui and processors, see the actual performance. I dont need eye catching ui and if then there is already SPB Shell is available for symbian. So dont worry about ui of N8. Now your concern will be 680 mhz processor, so You should see it live when it will come if it is fast or not.

Tom-Helge, 28 May 2010This is what XPERIA X10 have that is much much better.
1... moreAnswer to your questions
#1 have you see the current video of N8 presented by Nokia's product manager. Ui was quite fast and smooth
#2 you win
#3 I even consider 3.5" as big because I want cute phone not bulky tablet
#4 Why dont you guys see visual multitasking as ui.. And though N8 uses less screen but still we can do about 90% of daily task direct from the home screens
#5 More power battery but more hungry processor and 4" tft screen opposed to less power hungry cpu and 3.5" oled display + symbian is energy efficient : guess who has batter battery life.
#6 Ram is lower in N8 but you forget symbian is also ram efficient and its also using Ram paging technique
.
Now its my turn why N8 is better
1) More internal memory to store plenty of hd movies
2) Usb on go
3) Multitouch support
4) fm transmitter - to share music upon your friends and to play music to your car fm radio just from your phone
5) bluetooth 3.0
6) wifi n
7) front facing camera - it dont meant you use it or not but many people uses it.
8) hdmi port
etc..

my silver lining finish on the n97 wore off in less than two month and not only me,my all folks owning n97 have been complaining about that.they always make a coating, its never metal, except for the e series.the same happened with my n82's camera's brushed silver finishing.

Tom-Helge, 28 May 2010This is what XPERIA X10 have that is much much better.
1... moreAndroid requirments are way different that what Sympian needs !
With the Nokia N8 current requirments, N8 will beat Xpira X10 any time any day you wanted!
they both run different OS, each OS requirments are totaly different than the other! so the Comparison between the two devices is worthless

i can bet that anodized finishing will wear off in less than three months.take my word on that.as far as build quality is concerned go for apple.
common guys android is way better than symbian, nokia is lagging accept it or not.i too prefer nokia but the way they disappointed me with n97 i am lesser on their side.dell streak is a much better buy also as the screen is large typing will be easier.i gree the multimdia performance of n8 will be mind blowing but as far as hardware is concerned go for xperia 10 or dell streak.android has been full proof so far.it came and its ruling.common nokia, all eyes on your symbian^3.you dont have that impressive hardware for n8 so we are hoping it from the os part.

and ya forget to mention that nokia always blinds us with flashy videos,so dont believe their commercials until you experience it for yourself.
i personally use a n97,its a great fone but the touch experience is not so great but as i ve customised it to my needs..it works perfect for me.

Anonymous, 28 May 2010can u please mention which part of sony ericsson x10 is bet... moreThis is what XPERIA X10 have that is much much better.
1. Much more powerfull processor.
2. Much higher screen resolution (and this requires alot more CPU power alone)
3. Much bigger screen (3.5 inch on N8 while XPERIA X10 have 4 inch).
4. XPERIA have much better utilization of how much of the front is used for the screen. Nokia N8 only use like 65% of what you can use the front of the phone for. While XPERIA X10 use like 80-85% of the front panel to the screen.
5. XPERIA have a more powerfull battery. Nokia have a Li-Ion 1200 mAh battery while XPERIA X10 have a Li-Polymer 1500 mAh battery.
6. XPERIA have more RAM than the Nokia N8. X10 have 128 mb more RAM.
This is what i can find right now.

Dave, 28 May 2010Is this phone worth getting? Is OS sym^3 any good?flat strategy for buying nokia(my experience of >9 yrs).
1.wait for the device to hit the market, control your temptness.
2.read user's opinions and reviews,as its their new os once again, dont take chance, nokia is bound to miss something at first stage.
3.then it will rectify it and launch the product with other name like "mini" or something similar at a very lower price.
4.in less than half a year, the price of the device will fall so steeply that you might repent buying it as an early bird.
and last but most important
5.always remember that when nokia is launching a device,it always has its successor ready under its hood.
so the key word is just wait and you might end up lucky and having the best buy..
so folks do you agree?

This is a good phone. Upgraded the firmware and now its much faster. Its very customizable. Capacitive touch is excellent. Battery isnt very good, last +-2days but I am an aggressive user. Memory is great. PC suite is easy to use, Camera is excellent, I can take i picture in total darkness and the flash will handle its business :). Symbian software isnt bad but the user interface is a little old fashion. It is a very powerful OS thou...Hopes this helps potential buyers.

Anonymous, 28 May 2010the most powerful mobile ever made!!Haha, are you for real or what?.
Nokia N8 is far from being the most powerfull mobile phone out now. My Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 beats the Nokia N8 in almost everything performance wise.
The only thing the N8 might be better than the XPERIA X10 in is the GPU.

Things come and things go but some things choose to stay and nokia n97 is one of those things.no matter what the tech specs chart speak today, they are just add ons to what n97 already offers.nothing can beat it.its complete and perfect.
whats the use of such a huge screen and huge memory if you cant watch a complete movie on it.m speaking of dell streak aNd nokia n8.how can they forget to include a kickstand, what a miss! so no matter how much you love your phone you wont be able to hold it longer than 15 mins to watch a video, forget about watching movies.surfing web on my n97 is a sheer pleasure and the experience has been like no other.you can type email on it faster than any qwerty device in the market, thanks to its tilt and slide screen and physical qwerty keyboard.nobody can match apple's capacitive touch screen typing capability.so if its not apple,a physical qwerty keyboard is a must.
with nice software upgrades,my n97 has got even better, more free ram and snappier performance.the audio quality with correct equalizer settings will definitely bewilder you.give it a try.
and am happy that its no more into production because such beautiful things need to be rare.n97 still befits the Kings' throne,N8 is just a flagshp..or you can say a prototype for testing their new OS sym^3.
