It is near the front-facing camera and it shuts off the screen during calls when something is close to it, this is to prevent accidental input's with your face while talking on the phone

mehraj, 01 Jan 2012hi , every one i am using n8 for last 1 month nice phone bu... moreU must be in the wrong article, its nokia N8 page, not Blackberry (trackball is a must lol, its a full capasitive touch screen, why does it still need a track ball?)

suvarna53, 01 Jan 2012My N8 display goes off when ever i get a call before receiv... moreit is different from the light sensor meaning. at night if you talk and put it on your ear screen will shut off but only when it is on your ear. in this case, its not that.. this time It just locks the screen. it happes in a sunny day or where ever is a strong light. just move the unlock key on the side and it will unlock the screen..

android let me down it terms of battery life... It really sucks.. And i don't want my phone to charge twice a day as iam a heavy user...

hi , every one i am using n8 for last 1 month nice phone but missing trackball which is a must thing for touch panel phones from my side i will give this phone 7/10 points.

just installed mobilevoip on my n8 and used my dialnow settings, now with this soft i can call at low rate over internet, as much as i want due to fact that mobilicity unlimited plans-god bless them- and hope they won't change it.

Thank you very much for your reply again... I have to admit that I'm a Nokia fan boy in the first place.. But in the meantime I have complaints too.. LOL.. I love the durability, build quality, camera, simplicity etc.. But I hate 'delayed market strategies', 'less frequent updates', 'carelessness about developing their OS', 'Less RAM and processor powers' etc..
I actually didn't know Android could open CAD files... OMG.. That's a really sweet thing.. (I'm too blind for the development of Android because I'm too much in to Symbian... LOL..)
I totally agree with you regarding your statements about WP7.. It's not a community developed OS in the first place so it's restricted.. (Obviously...) If I can't play with my device the way I wish.. then there's no use of it.. So even though N8's successor comes with a larger sensor than N8, I will definitely move to an Android device if it comes with Mango...!

hallo,im not too happy with my n8 , ive had it for just over a year now > upgraded to anna and then the phone started giving probles,firstly , my ovi maps aint working properly , and a few days ago my phone just died on me, wont charge etc..ive taken it into nokia and awaiting a reply...i am not shooting down n8 , but its the first phone out of 5 nokia handsets thats giving me such problems , i still have 6600,n70, and n82..maybe ?? will se be a better phoone next time around ?

And for the camera thingy, u can't compare our N8 camera to other phones, since it have great lens and still has the bigest image sensor ever put in a phone.
Even Xperia that use Xmor-R sensor its only good on the dark, but still can't beat N8 on detail n clarity (if u afraid of the dark, dun worry cause N8 come with a powerfull Xenon flash eventhough its not useable to take video brighter cause we need led for that lol)
I doubt that N8 successor will use even larger sensor, cause its quite difficult to put that large sensor but still deliver a good design (also we kindda need extra leds for making a good night/indoor vids). All i can think is they'll put a nice sets of Processor and adequate RAM just to accommodate in making a full HD (1080p). A great display can add the fun also (Nokia Clear-Black Display or S Amoled)

So tell me its FAB(feature , adv,b... morebult quality, microphone, loudspeaker, earphone, signal, are excellent!!!!!!! in my opinion there is not other phone in the market with these performances. Also foto and video with this 12mp killer are excellent.
