Jimly, 04 Aug 2011Im planning to buy a new phone but i dont know what to buy ... moreI'd say go for the Nokia N8 since it's for a well-rounded smartphone package, that will appeal a lot to the casual and more experienced photographers alike, with its 12MP camera and Xenon flash. The Finnish handset also adds other notable virtues, namely the ability to watch its contents on a big screen via HDMI-out with 5.1 channel surround sound, USB-on-the-go, and free lifetime navigation that works offline in most countries.
Juiced up to full capacity, Nokia claims 12.0 hours of talktime for the N8, compared to 6.5 hours for the Galaxy S. Standby times are 390 hours and 576 hours respectively. The Galaxy S loses this one.
And for the extras
The N8 also includes: onboard 3D graphics acceleration, GPS/A-GPS (with free Ovi Maps), digital compass, Web TV, Flash support, FM radio (with RDS) and an HDMI out with Dolby Digital Plus support. The Galaxy S features a stereo FM radio with RDS, GPS/A-GPS and a digital compass (4-5)
Nokia all tha way baby! , with Anna releasing soon , then the Belle update, haha, I just love this! No iphone or any other manufacturer can come close!

Gotta say that this os argument is way overdone. Its the only one that N8 haters have. Sure, android is a great os but don't assume that everyone wants it. There will always be mac and pc lovers. And even within pc there will be W7 lovers and those who prefer to remain with Xp. S3 could be better but don't hate it because apple and android marketing execs say we should. Think for yourself and realize S3 has advantages. Besides, os is only part of the package and you can achieve anything with updates. But hardware is where the boundaries are. So don't be brainwashed, people. N8 is far more than a cameraphone. It is simply the greatest multimedia smartphone on the planet. Get it!

goldcrow, 03 Aug 2011Wow, thanks for the lengthy reply. I'm really leaning on th... moreNo prob. The purple tint thing isnt on all phones. On mine i dont even see it. I noticed a slight tinge of it when it is in standby mode i.e. When the screen is off and the clock is displayed. I was disappointed at 1st but then i installed an app from nokia beta labs called 'sleeping screen' which plays various screen savers in standby mode. Problem solved! I dont even see that tint anymore:) There is no evidence of it when using the phone either so dont be put off by people making a fuss. It doesnt show in use but in standby mode and from what i read about it, thats the truth. Mind you, when you buy one you may not see it at 1st but after a while of use rather. Another thing i want to mention is if you want a phone that you can mod that makes your phone similar to a desktop then an android is really good but i have been trying so hard to achieve that but it cannot replace my pc. You will keep trying to get that balance but will not achieve it. Eventially you realise it would never replace your pc and it will always give you nice eyecandy features that eventially become boring and you start looking for something new. There are lots of stuff on the market to keep you entertained but it boils down to useability. The droids i have are good but battery life is poor with all that eyecandy running so you just end up closing them to save power. It eventially hit me that it was all that intrigued me which i hardly used and all i wanted afterwards is something that did everything well and wouldnt let me down. Out of the box the n8 is superb. No major eyecandy and far from a dead phone. If eyecandy and flashiness is what you like then go for a droid. The apps you can get from the market are great but lots of them cause battery drain and your phone to freeze. I dont have to do that with my n8 and it works well. When those updates come it should bring a breath of fresh air to it. Once that comes, i probably wont even touch my other android phones. For daily use the n8 integrates into my life perfectly. I use it more frequent than all the apps installed on my other phones. I hope you make the right choice. I dont regret buying the n8 and everyday it just does what i want it to more so than what other devices can. The main thing is to realise what you want from your phone. Gaming, eyecandy and variety of apps the droid regime reigns supreme but the n8 isnt bad at gaming and apps. After the updates maybe even better at eyecandy too! Good luck!

AnonD-2203, 02 Aug 2011Now all you people forget nokia because it is in the wrong ... moreI have N8 for 10 months and now I have android phone with froyo. After using android for quite sometime, my opinion that N8 is practical phone with astonishing features of hardware. Not too high but not too low. The phone which not only rely on apps to be presentable. It's not to deny that android phone is great too. But in matter of practicallity, N8 is the better player.
The thing that I most dislike in android is it's short battery life. I have to plug for charging 2 twice a day. With N8 2days once. That is a part of practical that I mean to.

The only thing that makes it reccomendable to a customer is its camera....if only nokia had filled it up with android froyo or something, it could have been a huge success....the thought of symbian just makes me shudder....other than symbian, the specs are good enough to compete with most of the mid range smartphones on the market....
