Below are excerpts from from CEO STEPHEN ELOP based on GSMARENA Article dated Feb. 09,2011--SAD BUT TRUE. Nokia bridge is falling down.

"...Consumer preference for Nokia declined worldwide. In the UK, our brand preference has slipped to 20 percent, which is 8 percent lower than last year. That means only 1 out of 5 people in the UK prefer Nokia to other brands. It's also down in the other markets, which are traditionally our strongholds: Russia, Germany, Indonesia, UAE, and on and on and on.

How did we get to this point? Why did we fall behind when the world around us evolved?

This is what I have been trying to understand. I believe at least some of it has been due to our attitude inside Nokia. We poured gasoline on our own burning platform. I believe we have lacked accountability and leadership to align and direct the company through these disruptive times. We had a series of misses. We haven't been delivering innovation fast enough. We're not collaborating internally.

Nokia, our platform is burning."

kankuzu, 16 Mar 2011hello 2 all, about n8 problem..i heard that the first model... moreThe first batch of N8s have the overheating motherboard problem and now we are dealing with the purple screen defect. You are lucky to get a perfect unit but a lot of defective units are still in the wild and Nokia should do a recall to prevent the public from getting a defective unit.

AnonD-1082, 15 Mar 2011Everything up to this point are just speculations we don't ... moreThe admission of Nokia of defects is good BUT IT DOESN'T JUSTIFY it. Before releasing their products, it should have been thoroughly tested. It seems they just approve the shipments of phones without the thorough testing, or management says so to approve the phones regardless if it has defects. Is that just for the money? Oh shame. Don't you think that's abusing Nokia fanatics of their trust? Nokia users who bought their phones should receive the same value for what they paid for. This is an expensive phone, just to realize defects exist in this phone. This is BRAND NEW, defective phones as BRAND NEW means defects were made during PRODUCTION, and still they shipped the faulty products. How many years more Nokia? another 10years of faulty products?

chester, 15 Mar 2011Even if I don’t support their strategy,I can proudly say No... morePartnering with Microsoft for a new OS line up only means SYMBIAN phones are Pre-historic phones, it has many faults and complaints. If SYMBIAN is the best OS, using your common sense, you will know that it should not be changed. But Nokia is already replacing it.

[deleted post]I do not recognize the phone you are talking about!
My N8 is 5 months old and works brilliantly. Never drops a call, never freezes and performs very well.

Would I buy another - too right! I compared N8 camera with IP4 the other day - there was no comparison the N8 was in a different class. Admittedly the IP4 has better apps and software but then it cost twice the price sim free! For all you that are looking at the N8, ignore all the idiots that have nothing better to do than to come on here just to slag off the phone - just go and buy it!!!

If you want to know the latest about Nokia's purple scren then hit the link below. Nokia is now using a new defect-free screens and those with defects are still waiting to get fixed and the defect free screens haven't arrived yet. Just hold on for a bit. Nokia finally adimitted the defect and that's what really matters here. We have to thank these guys from Nokiausers.net for banging at Nokia's doors and getting the public aware of the defect and forcing Nokia to fix the defect. If the public were silent then nothing will be done.

Everyone interested in getting a new N8 must check the screen to avoid getting a defective unit. If the unit displays a reddish/purple analog clock then it's a sign of a defective unit. Use caution and avoid the hassle.

Pre-historic, 15 Mar 2011Definitely Symbian is not the best OS. If you use your comm... moreEven if I don’t support their strategy,I can proudly say Nokia & M$ partnership will not fail.why?

                                      here are my 10 reasons:

                                      1. Most customers & clients do not even know Nokia is adopting WP7 as primary smartphone strategy, ask 10 of your friends & tell me how many out of that 10,know about this new partnership, most probably 1 or 0.Do the same with your family &friends, result still the same.

And not all Nokia customers want high end phones, some are satisfied by the dumb phones which generate most of Nokia revenue.

                                      2. A lot of customer have/are using Windows on their PC’s and they do like Windows 7 on a PC.They also use MS Office everyday. Now if they hear the new Nokia phones with Windows intergrates/communicates much better with their PC they will be more happy, especially the businessman will look forward 2 a better MS Exchange on their phone.Y can ask yo boss & the answer is obvious.

                                      3. Nokia M$ will combine and use their Navigation assets 2 deliver a true navigation experience that’s unrivaled. Thus more customers would be impressed after purchasing the phones,

                                      4. M$ will try it’s best 2 bring high quality mobile gaming with their Xbox live.If they provide a few titles free this can influence gamers, seems likely they will.

                                      5. Nokia WP user interface will be customized 2 have a better look and feel of being Nokia.

                                      6. Nokia WP will come with better/improved Cameras as they are well known 2 produce high quality cameras.

                                      7. M$ has a huge community of their own developers,so if Qt developers don’t want 2 come on board it won’t affect anything, sorry it’s their choice-take it or leave it.

                                      8. More developers are graduating at schools, colleges, universities with knowledge of C++,.Net,Visual studio and many will be happy 2 join M$ if an opportunity arise.

                                      9. Nokia will produce a Meego device this year 2 keep those geeks on board while they give WP more time 2 improve.

                                      10. M$ will throw in $$$$$$ millions to make the partnership work. After all they’re all in it for money and getting into next generation of mobile phone market.

Even though the whole partnership disappoints me,i definately know it will be successfull if they continue their game play.So far i can say well done Stephen Elop &keep it up,you’re getting there.

Obviously if the deal fails we still have MeeGo 2 back everything up,that’s why Elop put a strong emphasis on MeeGo being for next generation of disruptive technologies.
