AnonD-695, 14 Mar 2011i just dont get some people. Had you all stop for a moment ... moreSymbian^3 is the latest version of Symbian operating system. It is only a revamped S60v5 UI. Symbian^3 is an unfinished product. The reason for Nokia scrapping Symbian is now clear. They don't see any future with this operating system. As I've said, updates on Symbian are so slow. It takes forever to bring something new to the table. It just can't keep up with the competition anymore. Basic smartphone OS feature like portrait QWERTY keyboard should be present in the first place but still we're only yet to see its first appearance after 6 months of release. Nokia is about to ditch Symbian sooner than later and move to Windows Phone and turn itself into a hardware company because that's only where Nokia is good, making and designing hardware. They suck on software/OS development.

ralphie02, 14 Mar 2011i just hope you got a genuine phone from nokia, coz if u di... moreOf course my N8 is genuine. It is not on my mind to buy a fake Nokia phones. It came from the Nokia Care Bahrain already, but instead they show value for the customers complains & do severe actions, they just say its because of the theme that gives purple shades, which is really not convincing. As what I've post before, not all Nokia Care in the world is showing genuine & sincere care for the customers, the Nokia Care here in Bahrain is so poor when it comes to service. If anybody could offer me a 100% non-defect N8 made from & directly from Us or Finland, please let me know, I want to sell this N8 that is with me right now & buy new 100% no defect N8 from outside of Bahrain.

AnonD-695, 14 Mar 2011i just dont get some people. Had you all stop for a moment ... moreI used to be blinded by my Nokia fanboyism for so long that I easily dismissed Nokia's negligence, incommittment, and failure to deliver good user experience to their customers. But now, I've learned to open my eyes and look on the world around me. This world is so much nicer and better than the four corners of Nokia and Symbian fantasy world. I suggest that you watch the video review of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. This is how the mobile operating system should be like in 2011. Symbian^3 looks very basic when compared to Android's Honeycomb or even to Gingerbread. Symbian^3 doesn't even look like a smartphone OS at all. Why don't you also look the world outside Nokia? Grass is indeed greener on the other side.

i just dont get some people. Had you all stop for a moment to think that symbian^3 is still new (note, this is symbian^3 im talking about here, not symbian)
i mean, look at android and ios at their early stages, they were pretty suckish too with many, many features missing at that time.
All symbian need is a new browser, new ui and better sosial network intergration. The rest are already as good they can get.
On an unrelated note, you guys should really try the qtranslate app. It comes with 48 languages and translates word pretty accurately. Just make sure you have qt 4.72

Got my N8 on Oct 23, 2010 at Nokia SM MOA. Was very satisfied with the functionality of the phone and its built. Four weeks ago i downloaded the game Text Twist and started playing it. Last week when my score was almost 100,000 the phone just hung. I tried several times to reset it but to no avail. Brought the phone to Nokia Care and they told me they can't handle such problem. It's now a Level 3 problem and they have to send it to Nokia for a possible replacement of the motherboard. This means i have to wait for two working weeks as advised, to get hold of my phone again!
I have nothing against Nokia phones, in fact i have used quite a number of their earlier models but to wait for two working weeks before i get back the phone is another thing. Why can't they just replace the unit since it's basically new.

AnonD-1124, 14 Mar 2011The purple screen issue only affects the clock screen saver... moreYou must've not yet seen an N8 with a perfect screen. It's miles better than most N8's with broken screens when placed next to each other. Colors are altered on broken screens. The analogue clock appears to be reddish/purple instead of dark grey. In some units, grey gradients are displayed as violet. It actually affects all colors without you noticing it. Just notice the "Web" icon on Midnight theme. On a normal screen it's blueish. On a broken screen it is displayed as greenish.

Or it will ever happen in a few years remaining on Symbian's lifetime. 'Cause updates on Symbian are so slow. It just takes forever to get something new. While Android is about to get Flash 10.2 already, Symbian^3 still doesn't even have a portrait QWERTY keyboard as of now.

I sad nokia is the best phone manufacturer ever. Its best from the first time. But, there so many negative opinion to attact nokia to the down. I have n8 and never be dissappointed of it. So good looking, so very good build, superb camera and video, etc, etc, etc. We can get almost everything we need on smartphone there. But I still have one wish. I hope that symbian^3 have living wallpaper too. So I wont need to say,'I wish i have and android too'. And I dont think its copying, as we know we already have living wallpaper on our pc. And if they still judge that, they will be ashamed themselves. As we know, we live in copying. We copying each other, and even almost our old to most recently and most advance technology are copying animal and nature capabilities. So dare us judge you copying and you copying? Why dont we all build this world together by competing positively? If you like some, dont blame other people who like some other. We have our own choices. Nobody is perpect, and so does the technololy.

AnonD-1124, 14 Mar 2011The purple screen issue only affects the clock screen saver... moreIt affects movies, pictures, and pretty much everything that's supposed to be dark colored appear as purple or reddish. This is not something that should be ignored. It should be replaced right on the spot.
Nokia should issue a public apology to its customers and do a recall.
Here's a thread at nokiausers.net. It's 74 pages long detailing the extent of the defect and it seems widespread. The defect affects anything that's supposed to be dark.

The purple screen issue only affects the clock screen saver for gods sake. It doesn't even show in the photo gallerry and other places with loads of black like a black theme. You surely can't expect nokia to check every single aspect of every single phone before shipping. How much do the phones cost? They probably just switch on, bluetooth, wireless, battery, switch off. The error must have occurred in the manufacture on the displays themselves.

Anonymous, 13 Mar 2011So what we will do now just keep quiet & enjoy the defe... morewhy dont u chill for a minute and think about what i said in the first place. i only said that the hardware design was never that bad.
defects has nothing to do with hardware design as far as i am concerned. defects are pretty much manufacturing error. whatever happens during or after a phone is assembled has nothing to do with its design. maybe nokia did fail with their quality testing but that was never my point in the first place. i was solely referring to their hardware design.
as for the mishandling of shipment, i have no idea if thats what really happened. i was imply throwing that in as an example. i used it because whatever one phone experienced during a shipment was probably experienced by the others along with it. and since they usually ship in bulk, it might have affected a few hundreds or thousands which pretty much represents most of the people complaining. remember, only a fraction of consumers complain like you online so i think thats a pretty good estimate.
and lastly, i never said that you should stop complaining. heck if i were you id be calling customer service every day to get my replacement.ive had my n8 since october or november and i never had problems whatsover (besides a few lag every now and then....). considering im a uni student with no money i feel for you because id be very mad as well if i spent that much money and end up getting a defective unit.

Can I ask some questions? Can somebody teach me how to automatically read the latest posts/comments in here without refreshing the blog spot from time to time? Same as after posting a comment? Thanks in advance!

ralphie02, 13 Mar 2011i guess gsmarena didnt approve of my previous comment, so l... moreSo what we will do now just keep quiet & enjoy the defects that was not came from the customers side? What ever the reasons are, what ever the explanations are, we don't care JUST REPLACE it with the non-defect units. We are paying for the heavy duty quality phones, not the defects. This is what the Nokia is trying to prove in the world that they are the heavy-duty-hardware phone manufacturer in the world. Where is that crown now? In Software Nokia failed, don't tell me in Hardware Nokia failed also?
