John, 05 Feb 2011if you see the purple in the clock as shown on the pictures... morealso, does your screen brightness automatically changes with the intensity of the light? is it normal? cant we switch it off? cuz its kinda other way round, the screen turns dull when in dark environment and turns bright when comes under bright light, (in my ols nokia n85 it was jus d opposite, and better) so is it normal?
btw at what screen brightness do u use ur phone? Settings> phone> display> light sensor.. which level? I kept it at 3 (middle) and its too dull :(
and when in themes I select top (black one) I get the options bar of blue color and when I select the second (blue one) I get it like greenish..
plz advice?

Guys, don't bother with this phone. Worst phone ever. I am a heavy business user and this phone cannot handle volume calls as the software seems to clog up. Phone constantly drops out, reboots and stalls while making and receiving calls. My carrier is willing to replace it with another phone immediately because they have had some many problems with them. Don't waste your money! I'm off to try a HTC Aria instead...

if you see the purple in the clock as shown on the pictures provided in this forum and also qtorch appz, your handset is also affected. you will not see this issue on the pictures that came with the phone. but try also the tron trailer and find e.g. the 22nd second in the trailer. you will see a scene with a couple of areas where black goes into grey and those areas are purple, but shall not be. i know this difference because i had many displays already. but if you watch bright movies on the phone, u will not notice this purple issue. however if you watch dark movies, you will notice a lot of purple and brown areas everywhere instead of dark ones. it is very annoying.
why is the half of the clock purple? imo the affected half of the clock is not black as the rest even on a perfect display. i think that the upper half of the clock is VERY VERY dark brown/red, it looks almost like black, but there is a sligth difference in colour. i think the programmers made it like that so that the black watch ist not that boring.
my first N8 was bought begin of december and display was perfect. beautiful colours, no purple, good lighting, no dot matrix. this N8 died and I got it replaced. at this point my problems with lcd began. with this second N8 i got middle of january i noticed the dot matrix in display and some back light issues but still not this purple issue. because of the problems with illumination i got my display replaced now in february and i got one with the purple issue, it is horrible when i compare it to those two displays i had before. not even in the clock, qtorch and tron trailer but also in the main menu i can feel the purple cast is everywhere present. more noticeable comes ist however under slight light, when the display dims itself.

hello, 05 Feb 2011considering to buy this device next week . how is this phon... moreI have had the phone since November 2010 and I have had no issues whatsoever. The call quality is great. Camera and HD video superb. I spent months looking at Blackberry, HTC,Sony and Samsung smartphones and to be fair they are all pretty good. The 12mp Camera did it for me in the end. I was not that bothered about android as I thought Symbian does the job at the end of the day. Apple is a very good product but for the price they ask, it should have the best of everything and we all know it does not! For me, N8 does everything I need and more. My advice go and buy it you will not regret it!!!

2)Is class 4 sufficient for the job
Cheers!

this phone cant be considered a boom phone at which the price it stands .better i would suggest going for motorola milestone 2, sony eric vivaz, motorola droid series , sony eric x 10 , samsung galaxy series which provides far better ui experience and with bundled better performance softs and that too with an extremely advanced android os vis a vis symbian. Worst part of n8's is os that is symbian ,getting softs for it would be a havok task and for android it provides its own market place which sought me to be far far better than the nokia's third class ovi store which provides none other than just widgets . So descision lies on u my reccommendation go for moto samsung or sony and being more more advance get ur money too saved!

Check your Nokia N8 screen. If you have purple tint on your analogue clock (lock the phone, press the menu button and show the nice analogue clock) you have a broken screen. Many users have reported that the phone shows purple instead of black. Moreover, download QTorch from OVi and run it. In the main menu, behing the QT logo you will notice a change in colouring from black (1cm line on top) to purple almost 3/4 of the screen).
Not every device is affected, just letting people know that there are huge issues with the N8. My phone is amongst the broken ones.
