Guys I am a N8 user and frankly I'm pretty satisfied with this phone.

The only issue is I am not confidenton the apps on the OVI store.

Just to give you an example, I downloaded Pixelpipe but the app just doesnt start and has started creating problems for my contacts widegt also.

Now when i want to delete it, it just doesnt get deleted. In the file manager, the file reappears after everytime i delete it.

Does anyone here has any knowledge how to get rid of this problem app??

Looking forward to your reverts. Thanks

Has anyone in USA managed to find/purchase the
Nokia Silicone Cover CC-1005 for Nokia N8?

Here is the link to what I'm talking about:

    http://www.nokiausa.com/find-products/accessories/all-accessories/carrying-and-styling/silicone-covers/nokia-silicone-cover-cc-1005-for-nokia-n8

I ordered one from ebay but it's shipping from Europe, still have not received it, been over a month.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2011No dude. i am saying that because symbian has such an outda... moreOk dude, I agree that Symbian has the most awkward UI in all the modern OS, and it is pretty boring. But there is no doubt that Symbian is the most efficient mobile OS and more feature packed after WinMo (Note not WP7 - and S^3 Takes a lead from WinMo)

Main failure of Symbian is what described by "too many cooks, spoil the soup". The reason is OS and UI were looked as two separate entities (UIQ, S60 and so on are various UI by various manufacturers based on the same framework AVKON, but the underlying OS was the same and it is the most powerful out there in market)

Now Symbian is under full control of Nokia and Nokia are moving to a new QT based UI framework. The new QT UI will probably hit somewhere between April and July and it will probably address most of your concerns. Future seems strong for Symbian.

The only reason Nokia use Symbian is still there are load of people who like it for the OS (not for the UI) and Symbian as an OS is too good to be killed this soon.

Load of changes went through in smartphone market with the introduction of iPhone - I admit iPhone was a game changer. Symbian, WinMo, Blackberry OS all suffered transition (coz they were well established in the old definition and mainly due to the UI), but I'm quite sure MS and Nokia will hit back this year or at least the next.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2011the GPU is comparable to Adreno 205 WHEN the Adreno205 runs... moreDude I always find you interesting in this forum

"Most of the heavy lifting in the N8 is done by the BCM2727, as it renders the Symbian^3 UI and games alike, works with the camera module to capture and process 12MP stills and 720p videos, encodes/decodes those videos, drives the HDMI output (upto 720p) and even decodes the audio. So in case of the N8 and Symbian^3, it made sense for Nokia to have a low-power ARM11 CPU coupled with a reasonably powerful and competent multimedia processor. Using an A8 Cortex-based 1Ghz+ part here to run Symbian^3 would have been overkill and power-inefficient"

This is an extract from the same article in page 3 (http://www.anandtech.com/show/4126/nokia-n8-review-/3)

I think you completely missed the fact. By the way, what CPU task you expect here to do in N8, Tensor Algebra?

No proper market, etc... I think the only reason nokia still using symbian is because they can use an outdated hardware... 256mb ram, 680mhz, etc... what a crap....

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2011how powerfull is the gpu in the n8 and how does it helps the cputhe GPU is comparable to Adreno 205 WHEN the Adreno205 runs in 800x480 vs 640x360 on the N8. In reality that means it has around 2/3 the performance of Adreno205. Thats not too bad but it places N8 very far behind SGX 540. So cant say that N8 has a powerful GPU but cud say its acceptable.

Its the processor that makes the N8 so useless, its so far behind in everything:
                  www.anandtech.com/show/4126/nokia-n8-review-/7

The GPU does not do any CPU work, but the GPU can take care of transitions and menu effects/animations, it makes it look better but does not make the UI faster. And ofcors turning off these effects saves a lot of battery.

GPU programming to do CPU tasks is a complicated thing, and it seriously affects application compatibility, and Nokia is using Arm11 only because they want to maintain compatibility. Forget GPU doing CPU work, this isnt even being done on PCs yet, developers stick to DirectX and OpenGL libraries and onli very specialized apps see the usage of CUDA and similar GPU processing techs. Where battery life is an issue its highly impractical to let the GPU offload CPU tasks

Symbian won't die that soon, at least until Meego makes it to low ends. That means when Low end start to run in dual cores may be in 2017 or 2020.

Had my issues with the battery solved. Called nokia support here in the Philippines and got tons of info. and how to's and what not't. Lost my 60+ contact details but hey, it's a lesson and can't cry over spilled milk. Again, thanks Sir Edward and Nokia Customer Care Philippines (Your the best Jacob for the assist) for the support. Now, just to get back the pre-donwloaded content and widgets thru internet.

I'm a bit confused with your reply. I was reading the manual, user guide (built-in the device) also the video on how to use the camera at the nokia.ph website. They all technially say to use the camera click on the camera button, yet your reply was "once you pressed the camera button it will not definitely switch on the camera". Do you also have an N8 and facing this problem?
With regards to discharge of battery i took photos of around 20+ pics some with flash and some with no flash. So does this mean it discharges quickly, and do you have any idea how long should I charge my phone, could i get all the deleted data (tron legacy trailer, dolby trailer, background pictures and what) recovered. Again thanks very much, Maraming maraming salamat po
