I hope somebody could help me with my problem. First of all this is my second phone, nokia 3310 being my 1st(it's true, i just never bothered with cell phones untill the 3310 died on me) I bought this phone last wednesday (01/26/11), I'm from the Philippines by the way, since the review was great and postive opinions outweighed the negative ones.
The problem is, when I press the camera button on the outside, should it automatically switch to camera mode or do i have to go through the OS (menu-applications-camera) to access the camera mode? Is this normal? I tried rebooting it, on-off countless times and hard reset (I lost dozens of my contacts, I did not know it would literally erase my contacts) as advised by the store i bought this from.
Also i thought the battery life was supposedly lasts about 4 - 5 days, but i charged it last thursday (the first 8 hour charging) and it was completely empty/drained just this morning (01/30/11), i just did an average use, seldom called (twice or thrice only to check) and mostly txt's and tried to picture stuff.
Hope someone could help me on this problem

A portrait qwerty with plot view is a must for current day smart phones. You probably know how painful the current key pad is when entering user name, password, web address, name of people, search in ovi map, search function of the phone, editing contact, adding calendar entry, WiFi password (unfortunately nokia has decided to provide multi tap key pad only for this, no landscape qwerty either) and so many other things. A smartphone is not all about texting and typing email messages. A portrait qwerty with split view will definitely make life easier.
Major issue about the text input is really the lack of split view, which makes a lot of feature useless, for example web address suggestion in default browser, search suggestions by google, contact search while adoptive search turned off and so many.
Text input is really a pain in N8 currently, hope nokia will address soon.

They can also go to any of the pages of the phone they think the best, and do the same so that they can understand.
Also N8 plays subtitles after the new video updates.

Hey people. So text input on n8 is bad? Have the lack of portrait qwerty? I suggest you spend a minute figuring out how to use the T9 with predictive input. Learn What function the * key performs with word options and its all good. My fingers are big so Portrait qwerty wouldn't in me good anyway. Not say we wouldnt want it. But spend a minute. The one handed T9 is not all that bad if you know how to use it.

N8 is a great phone with a fantastic camera, etc. I have had this phone 2 months with no issues. I never took cameras on phones seriously before, until now!
So anyone considering this phone I would recommend you put this phone at the top of your list. For all the idiots that continually slag off the phone on here you either have nothing better to do, or you work for Apple, Sony or some other connected source! Do us all a favour go and jerk off somewhere else!!!

I bought N8 on
6th jan 2011, on
7th jan I have to
submit it to nokia
care, bcoz there
was no ovi in it.
They sent it to Delhi,
on 15th jan, I received my n8, again on 17th jan, I have to submit
it to nokia care, on 24th they returned me.
Again on 27th jan
i deposited it to
nokia care and waiting for the problem to be solved
permanently.

I don't think you've ever used an N8. If you would, then you would know that N8 don't need a video light. It's quite capable of taking videos in low light condition. Then again, I remember iPhone not having any camera flash. It's funny that you are complaining.
Maybe camera interface is outdated, but it beats any updated cameras in photo shoot.
Remember, when iPhone first came it had limited softwares a well? Or you try to forget your painful past?
Tell me, which phone are offering document editor if it isn't of business class? A far as I know, N8 is not business class phone (E7 is).
Video player has some issues. I agree. But what are those issues? That you can't see subtitles? Guess what, we don't wanna ruin our eyes looking at the tiny-miny subtitles. Then again, we are well educated and don't need to read subtitles while watching a movie like you do. Who would want to ruin the feel of watching a movie by concentrating on the subtitles?
Battery life not good? I use my N8 to make it's life hell. Still it supports me a full day. Okay, I got your point, you have electricity problem where you live. Then you shouldn't buy an N8.
Since when a non-replaceable battery was an issue for you? Show me a single iPhone where you can replace the battery, then I'll admit I'm wrong.
Don't just argue for the sake of argument, be clear about the facts first. Like all other iPhone users, you proved yourself as a dumb one. Anyway, take care.

Its true that,
it hangs suddenly and
also have so many
problems.
But,
The best part of N8
is its camera.
Its just brilliant.
Just remove the plastic
from the camera, and
restore the default
camera settings,
otherwise u should
contact nokia care.
