The build quality leaves alot to be desired.I long for the day Nokia stop using cheap plastic.A Higher quality finish might have added an extra 10g to the weight but surely that would have been a price worth paying . internal rating 8/10 external rating 2/10 NOT HAPPY

When it comes to music, N81 is the current best Nokia music phone, i450 is the best from Samsung and W910i is the best Walkman phone ever much better than W960i. There's no war here. All 3 music phones are best in their own rights. Most people who will buy either of the three will end up enjoying their music phone than regretting! If I had much money, I'd buy i450 and W910i also..

Other music related features:
N81 has all the goodies of the Nseries we're familiar of in terms of music plus the addition of 3.5 mm jack, dedicated music keys, Naviwheel which is fun to use really! i450's N95-ish dual slide is nice indeed. The touch control on the slide is similar to the Naviwheel they're both touch sensitive just differ on the direction of how you control them. Presence of 3.5mm jack is also a plus but the music player is simpler than N81, it looks like that of Eseries. W910i music features is so cool. The user interface of the music player (Walkman 3.0) is very advanced and very elaborate, a lot better than N81 music player. Plus it has a accelerometer (motion sensor) based feature, Shake control, that lets you control the playback of songs by just shaking the phone left or right. That's a new innovation, first and only from SE! It's fun to use!

Music: Can't comment much on the audio quality but as far as I know N81 has the best audio quality via 3.5 mm jack and loudspeaker. W910i has the best audio quality among all Walkman phones I've tried. Haven't tried much Samsung phones but i450 has good quality also.

Gaming: Both N81 and W910i can play games in landscape mode. Both phones have dedicated gaming buttons. i450 is weak in this category. N81 is based on NGAGE platform and has better gaming experience. i450 is limited only to some Symbian games. Interestingly W910i also performs better in gaming. It deals with some sort of high quality 3D graphics JAVA games, new platform, not the usual old JAVA games we're familiar of.

When it comes to features, N81, W910i and i450: N81 is the most feature packed having music player, internet browser, camera, game console and phone in one. i450 comes in at 2nd, same as the functions of N81, same that you can expand its features since it has the same OS, but minus the NGAGE gaming. W910i is 3rd it has all the functions of N81 and i450 minus the OS which lets you expand the features of the phone.

Nokia N81, Samsung i450, and Sony Ericsson W910i are the best rivals in music phones category. The most good looking phone for me is N81, but among the 3, it has the worst built. Most units creak and they are so plasticky, but indeed N81 is good looking until you use them personally. W910i probably has the best build among the 3, very solid and you'll know it's made of high quality materials once you use it. It also comes in different color variants, all of which are so cool. I've never liked SE before until I've seen W910i. Samsung i450 looks cool also, it's a dual slider and the N95-ish slide is so nice. Build quality is between N81 (worst), and W910i (best). I like the black i450 more than the white one.

This phone is not a camera phone, hence the 2MP. This phone is a great entertainment phone, regardless of the camera quality. What's the point in having a great camera on a phone? The quality is nothing compared to a proper camera anyway.
Samsung i450 is a Samsung, Nokia>Samsung IMO.
BTW, the i450 has a 2MP camera... Isn't that wwhat you were complaining about? The i450 is so not an entertainment phone like the N81 so it's completely unessesary to compare them

if u are planning to buy nokia n81 then u should have certain things in mind which i observed after buying it.
1) the benefits it providing are less than its cost.I'm saying this because a phone of this price offering only 2MP camera is of no worth.quality of camera pictures and videos are very ordinary.
2) Samsung i450 is a very good competitor of it offering almost same features and OS with relatively cheaper price.
3)it offers n-gage which is a big joke with the buyers as only demo versions are being put into this. you have to pay extra for buying full featured games.
recommendations:
if u have no concern with WLan definitly i would recommend Samsung i450. if u r concerned with the camera go for n73 and if u r searching for very good display then go for n81. but the best can be n82 if u can spend a little more for your mobile phone.
