Image formats: BMP, EXIF, GIF87a, GIF89a, JPEG, PNG, TIFF
If that's not enough for you, VLC is in the process of being ported for the N9.

Those who are waiting for PR1.1 or want the PR1.1.1 (which adds arabic support) then follow this guide to flash your Nokia N9 to the latest firmware. No need for Nokia Software Updater or FOTA!!!
