AnonD-180, 25 Jun 2011Nice thoughts glad to discuss those with ya. Buy a profe... moreThe screen will react through thin pants, just place your finger inside your t-shirt... and then touch the screen on your N8 or Android, so it is a stupid idea to not have only a hardware button to activate the screen!
Swyping in a game or an app may move the user to the homescreen even if he/she does not want to, so even here it is better to have a hardware-key to press to move to the homescreen from any app/game.
N9 will not have Android Market so you will not be able to easily use all Android apps...

I'm somewhat attracted by both the Meego as well as the upcoming Windows Phones, but I know at least the Windows phone will lack attributes that I'm not willing to give up from the N8 - for example the possibility to use N8 as mass memory without needing a software installed on the computer.

I really like the looks and feel of Meego, but I think it's a bit stupid to buy a phone that has absolutely no future. Then again, Symbian^3 is mostly the same, but at least they have some amount of staff for it and it'll keep going on the cheaper end phones, so some support will be there.

And as a last reason, my N8 is only a year old by the time those come out and it works perfectly with no flaws and I'm perfectly happy with it. I hope that in a year the Windows phones develop many of the good features of Symbian (currently WP reminds me of iOS, very much locked down unlike Symbian).

What a shame. Nokia are at least 12 months out regards specs here with an OS that has in effect been obsoleted. What a waste of resources when they need all they have to get back in the game!

The guys, who don't like this device, then what r u doing here?
Go to your SGS2 forum or Iphone 4 forum. If you don't like the device, then stay away from here. Don't spoil the forum, by posting unecessary comments.

To all the fanboys hailing this as the future of Nokia you need to accept that MeeGo is dead, even though it seems like a good OS it is dead, Nokia has committed to WP7 and here is something - http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/25/nokias-stephen-elop-is-still-over-meego-even-if-the-n9-is-a-hi/

Buy a professional camera if you are that deep in photography although there's much hope independent Camera Apps will be available and using the volume rocker is a possibility in those (and maybe it'll be added to Meego in the next update.
You can swipe back by mistake but it'll be a half swipe meaning you'll see one row of icons no more and you'll be back no problem the big ram and great processor won't flinch.
as for your next q you clearly are new to programming , so i'll quote this from Sympian
                              \\\\\\
There is a strong emphasis on conserving resources which is exemplified by Symbian-specific programming idioms like descriptors and a cleanup stack. Similar methods exist to conserve disk space, though disks on Symbian devices are usually flash memory. Further, all Symbian programming is event-based, and the central processing unit (CPU) is switched into a low power mode when applications are not directly dealing with an event. This is done via a programming idiom called active objects. Similarly the Symbian approach to threads and processes is driven by reducing overheads.
                              \\\\\\\
you need 2 steps to unlock (two clicks on the screen then a full swipe to open that'll never happen in your pocket since this is a capacitive which doesn't respond to materials other than your hands
It has gorrila glass so your safe and a body made of poly carbonate that has no paint so even if you scratched it it'll show the same color underneath .

HW buttons removal is awesome ...
and i agree with you about language support i really want this one in Arabic i hope they deliver ...

AnonD-1782, 25 Jun 2011I believe this is going to be a good phoneI didn't said that it will be a weak phone. I said that it's not better than the Samsung Galaxy S2.

it supports divx , xvid, flac, mpeg4, flash, avi and more.i think openness of meego can bring more formats coz it is a debian running on a shell. so most of the linux apps will work. there are many things that is hidden in this phone like fm transmitter.
