Billy, 05 Feb 2010Just have a question about the GPS - how well does it work ... moreI actually have not used GPS as I currently do not have a data plan so I could not tell you (I'm also unfamiliar with GPS in general). I can tell you however that the built in maps system is quite responsive and user friendly although it can not save locations.

N900owner, 05 Feb 2010The N900 is very well built with a solid OS. I have not ha... moreThanks for that. Doesn't sound too bad IMHO, certainly not deal-breakers for me. I think occasional crashes/frozen screens are to be expected from any phone. Maemo 5 is still one generation away from completion, so it's only natural that Nokia haven't ironed out all the wrinkles yet. But as long as it's reliable and stable as a whole, I don't mind a couple of minor inconveniences or bugs. Will be ordering my N900 from Amazon next week. Can't wait!

Billy, 05 Feb 2010Hi, what software issues exactly are you talking about? I'm... moreThe N900 is very well built with a solid OS. I have not had any glitches other than a few instances where the new firefox 1.0 browser crashed or a game I downloaded froze. Small bugs I've faced include resetting of the theme to the default every time the system is rebooted and I had some trouble getting album artwork to show up for some music files. Another annoyance is the inability to use the volume rocker when the phone is in sleep mode in your pocket, and the browser window needs to be minimized in order to control the volume of a flash video because the rocker controls zooming when the browser is in focus. The secondary camera is also pretty fuzzy at the moment. Thats about it for now, can't wait for firmware updates.

I haven't done any tests or anything, but my N900 lasts me a little over a day with moderate usage. I think that's pretty reasonable considering what this phone is able to do. Remember also that the iphone doesn't multitask (unless you jailbreak it) and the N900 does, so naturally it should eat up more battery. My brother who has the 3gs also needs to charge it daily with similar use to mine.

I'm thinking of getting this, so just want to know exactly what software problems I may run into. I don't mind a bug or two if they are fairly minor (eg. my N97 had an alarm clock bug where the alarm would go off a couple of minutes after the time I set), as long as the phone as a whole is generally stable. From what I can read on this website about most N900 owners' experiences and other online users and critic reviews, this phone doesn't seem to have too many problems in terms of software bugs/instability. Of course some handsets may be defective (which is normal with any batch of products), but I don't get the impression that it's a high percentage of phones.

@alex
Hi, I've owned the N900 since late December 2009. The battery life is very respectable for such a powerhouse. I usually get anywhere from one and a half to three days out of one charge depending on my usage. Surprisingly it doesnt feel like playing video with onboard speakers uses a lot of power. It ran out of batteries with one day's worth of usage a few times but overall it has been very reliable. A huge upgrade from my power hungry N80.
