deep space bar, 21 Jan 2010my network only runs on 1700/2100 so i have to stay on 3g f... moreoh....so thats why. your situation is a bit complicated, i didnt thought that there is a network service that offers only 3g....oh yeah, my 5800 is like that, i cant switch to GSM from HSPDA. I believe that your n900 has the feature "automatic switching of GSM bands" just like my 5800. this means, if your n900 does not need 3g, it'll automatically switch to GSM, if GSM signal wont work, it'll switch to 3g.

on this case, try getting a better signal the your n900 wont be using 3g automatically.

deep space bar, 21 Jan 2010oh thanks man i have my N900 and i use it alot but for some... moreif you have 3.5g connection, its normal if your battery drains in a day or less, specially if you use 3g for downloads, sms, e-mail etc. quite a bit, 3g eats more power than wi-fi, coz you use wi-fi for most only internet, in 3g from sending and receiving of sms and e-mail, to internet (network provider). also if your on a place with a difficulty of signal and your on 3g mode, the phone works extra hard to gather signal.

my hint is, if you have sufficient signal and not experiencing problems in 2g (GSM), use GSM or, wi-fi intead of 3g. and another thing, if you use wi-fi and you close your browser coz your done, make sure that you tap the battery on the desktop and disconnect from wi-fi. other devices disables wi-fi automatically when any app that uses internet is closed, but in n900, you will need to close the browser or any app and manually disconnect to wi-fi.

And in addition, for the total summary of my experiment in the battery power on n900:

-if you would look at the battery level of n900 while its charging, you can count about 8 levels.
-if fully charged, each battery level is drained for approximately 4 hours and 30 minutes so that is 8 levels x 4.5 hours = 36 hours (1 and a half days)

Hi! I've been using this phone/tablet for a week now. What a GREAT phone!!! Ok, it is not as "toyable" as Iphone, but it is a lot better. I own both (one personal - Iphone 3gs 32GB, one for work - n900) and i can tell you, both are great phones but completely different. Shouldn't even be compared. The only downsides to the n900 are that one can't (yet, i hope) use it on portrait mode (specially SMS) and not sending MMS (yet, again). DOes anyone know if Maemo are about to release un update so one can SMS on portrait mode?

                  Cheers.

CC, 21 Jan 2010Dear gabby131, Thanks for your report. It seems to me... moreim glad to help. well my first tip when you get the n900. look up at the internet/connectivity settings, because, the default settings of the device is to connect to any available connection every 10mins, and should change it to "never" or "ask ever time". if you dont take a look at that, you might end up connecting to 3g or wi-fi without knowing! maybe thats why many are having issues with the battery

gabby131, 21 Jan 2010at last!! im done my tests!!! well the battery life of n900... moreDear gabby131,

                      Thanks for your report.

It seems to me that the battery in the N900 is far, far better that any laptop battery I have ever used.

I'm getting this phone as soon as it comes to Sweden (12 Feb)

at last!! im done my tests!!! well the battery life of n900 is just 100% the same as 5800xm, the only thing is, the n900 is more power hungry. What can we expect on such powerful phone? But at least, the n900 is not as power hungry as other devices that i know.....that can only last maximum of 24 hrs of my normal use.

The 1320mah battery on n900 lasts 24 hours of my extreme use and maximum of 36 hours of normal use (calls, sms, e-mail, 2-3 hours of wi-fi and 1-2 hours of music and video). This results are achieved with only minimum brightness of display, power saver mode and 30-60 secs of backlight time (i did not use 3g, not yet available in my location)

                        the 5800

I am thinking of buying a n-900. Is it really an all time landscape display mode? I mean i cannot work on it with portrait display mode?

i think thw only thing iphone users hate about this phone is no capacitive sctreen, the guys at engadget has alreadsy admited thta the resistive used in n900 is spo close to glass

                                  no much apps for n900?
N900 need games deveploer to offer them more games, non need tpo install basic phone program

just got my n900 3 days ago. haven't been able to put it down since! haven't encountered any obvious bugs or crashes yet, and this baby is fast! the browser is amazing - i haven't needed to use my laptop since i got this phone. it truly is a computer in your pocket. i can't wait until more apps start to appear. i was worried about the no portrait mode thing, but surprisingly i don't really miss too much. the only place i do miss it is in "conversations" - would be nice to scroll through messages with one hand. but i presume that will come.

Anonymous, 21 Jan 2010Yes right out of the box native Apps like iTunes, Safari an... moreThe multitasking on the iphone is fairly limited - it's not true multitasking like it is on other devices (eg N900). To go from one app to another, you still have to go to the homescreen then pick which app/s you want to re-enter, which can be quite annoying if you have multiple screens of apps and you need to scroll through many screens. And the fact that you have to jailbreak the iphone to enable multitasking with 3rd party apps shows it's not truly multitasking. For power users, the iphone would be insufficient, but for most people the limited multitasking on the iphone is fine.
