i suggest gsmarena to add a new key in its phone finder. that key is sms storage, whether the sms unlimited or limited to certain numbers of sms. i think this key is very important.

When I looked at German stores this morning they were saying end of November.

                Anonymous, 01 Jan 1970Hi CC,

I'm not in the USA now although I do travel a lot. I live in the UK so I know all about rip-off prices.

I'm currently seeing the N900 for as low as £412 (681 USD) here which is down from the
RRP of £499 and the phone still hasn't shipped yet.

For ordering from the USA, if you don't have a friend that there that can order and send
(or bring) the device to you, then you should try and find a store that will ship the
device outside the USA. Note that the phone is only available for pre-order on Amazon.com
and when it becomes available some of the Amazon Marketplace vendors will probably ship
to you. For example I purchased an N810 from an Amazon.com Marketplace vendor in the USA
using a UK credit card and had it shipped to me at a hotel in Thailand - no problems at
                all.

If you can't find a reputable vendor that will ship to you then you can use on of the
address services that exist in the US that will provide you with a US delivery address
and then ship the goods to you overseas. This can be expensive and you will still have to
pay VAT and import duties. In fact in all instances where the device is sent to you, you
should expect to pay VAT, import duties and a fee to the courier (e.g. DHL) for handling
                these charges for you.

I suggest waiting until it ships and then seeing what the best prices are in your
country, in the EU and in the USA.

Yes, I see what you mean. I don’t expect any hardware changes to be made to the N900. Also [so far] I’m not hearing about any hardware related issues. It’s all software.

But just wait a little bit until early adopters have the units in their hands and see what they say. If there are no complaints about the hardware when many people are using the device (especially when they have paid £500 for it) then you can expect no changes.

yes, there might be a replacement for there N900, but not now, what i mean is the same N900 which we are having it now, is there going to be another release in terms of new hardware where else will be same??..

for example, if u remember, the E90 had 2 version:
1)- first one was the keyboard buttons & the hardware was a little bit not that comfortable, then Nokia released that same E900 with adjusted keyboard & strong hardware.

so my Q is: is N900 will face the same???

                        all the best

vinny, 20 Nov 2009I'm still waiting on the full review from GSMarena and I'm ... moreHi vinny,

In case you didn’t know, over the last 18 months or so Nokia USA have had some fantastic sales, sometimes online and sometimes in their stores (in an attempt to garner some US market and mind share). The discounts varied widely from 40% to something like 55% if I remember correctly. However these were usually only for a few hours e.g. 3hrs on a specific evening online but once they started doing them they would repeat them for a few weeks with different offers. I haven’t heard of such a sale for a while but it’s worth keeping an eye on the Nokia website as well as certain Tech blogs.

I think that you were looking at the N900 and the Droid, right? The N900 is currently $480 at Amazon including a $50 MIR. The Droid is currently $150 at Amazon with a 2 year Verizon contract. Looking at the Verizon and T-Mobile websites it looks like the cheapest packages that offer the basics of voice, text and Internet are $100 on Verizon and $60 on T-Mobile (but with no contract required on T-Mobile).

0v0, 20 Nov 2009thanks 4 the details so, only 1 hardware version till the ... moreNo. I’m not sure if they will do another Maemo 5 phone however if they do I don’t think we will see it before spring next year and even then I doubt that it will top the N900 (but they may do a larger tablet that does though).

This is assuming that Maemo 6 will be released in about 10 or 11 months along with the N900 replacement, which makes sense since 6 introduces multi-touch and capacitive screen support. The current plan is to go Alpha in Q1 2010 and Beta in Q2 2010. This could mean a public device release in Q4 2010. If all goes to plan there isn’t much time for a new phone above the N900.

Having said that, I normally like to let electronic products “settle” for a little while before buying them because manufacturers often make silent changes to the hardware to take care of problems. However with the short 1-year cycle we are now seeing with mobile phones I don’t think that they bother fixing hardware problems in current models anymore, they just do it in the next one.

Only one version of the hardware has been announced so far and that is the current one. It is possible that Nokia will announce a version with different 3G radios (but exactly the same otherwise) in the near future but that looks unlikely considering that they aren’t even planning to ship this device in many countries. Perhaps next year.

I think that they will just try to get this model out the door and then work on software upgrades for it for a while. I don’t know if they will do another phone before Maemo 6 is released but I would like to see them also release a proper tablet with a much larger screen 5.5”-7” also running Maemo and with GSM and 3G radios. A strategy that sees them using the same version of the OS on phones and larger screen tablets makes sense since it gives developers a larger user base and gives N810 users an upgrade path to a large screen device.
