Both n97 and n900 are good

just the price of n97 is overpriced
buy n97 only when it costs euro 350

@Jin Madera: it's the OS (or close to that) on the phone.

@CC: I know. Believe me, I know *exactly* what you're talking about, I know all the lengthy discussions that follow, and I agree with you. But I'm not talking about obsolescence, I'm talking about excessive fragmentation. Both may be related, but pose different stands.

What I (at least) see as a problem is that Nokia is disrupting and fragmenting their best line (Maemo, IMO) in a manner that they're not giving it even a slight chance of growing into an actively developed and followed line... they are preventing the formation of a big/great ecosystem around Maemo, something at least I could use in my favor.

Also, tech evolve, yes, but there is a thin line between normal/healthy and planned obsolescence. I shouldn't be required to spend $600 every year on new smartphones to get a better revision of the OS, if my current hardware is powerful enough to support it. In case the N900 could be capable of running M6, why not, even if charged?

To me, I guess, even the fact that it's open won't help much, since "interestingness" is a platform agnostic feel, like Apple just proved, no matter how inferior their phone may be in today's standards: it's due to the user base they created around one actively developed platform.

What if the post-Harmattan goes just like this? Years will pass and nobody will focus on an unreliable (development-wise) platform. OH! I see them fragmenting on purpose to sell even more phones. But the problem is that Maemo customers are not dumb.

I work in retail sales and are of the opinion that apple really have shown up other brands in terms of quality and also reliability. What are peoples opinions on this?

Anonymous, 17 Sep 2009That is right nokia should do at least 8 Mega Pixel that is... moreMore megapixels doesn't mean better pictures - just that you can print bigger ones. 5M is fine for printing at A4 size - I would have rather seen a Xenon flash ala N82.

Anonymous, 17 Sep 2009That is right nokia should do at least 8 Mega Pixel that is... moredo you actually use the 8mp?

mp is for size, if you know your technology, most cameraphones dont produce pictures near to point n shoot cameras. its not about how big the megapixel. it is the lens, it is the cam processor.. if you want an 8mp cam, go get a digicam and stop asking for the moon and the stars..

By then maemo 7 will be due out 12 months later. You're never going to get your phone if you wait for the next train. Almost all technology is obsolete by the time it gets to the market!

Oh well... "fail". Nokia is really pushing its customers. For those that don't know yet, this device/plataform is a temporary solution, a stillborn one. It will be discontinued. The new plataform yet-to-be-released (Maemo 6) is going to be the definitive solution, or so I've seen on maemo.org. Developers are already moving on to Maemo 6, so nobody really knows if developers really will support this phone. Do you want Skype? Last.fm? Choice of media players? Nobody knows, and I don't like buying a $550 phone with lots of unclear things. I guess I will get the 5800XM at $300. After all, the last resort is that there is security in numbers... great userbase, so many apps are being ported/written to it, despite being an S60.

At least Apple is doing it right in that regard, too bad their phone is not good enough and too expensive.
