Seabass, 03 Sep 2009N900 active panel is a rip off sony ericsson x2!?The MAEMO multiple desktop panel of the N900 is not a rip-off of XPERIA's Panels. MAEMO is a full Linux operating system, similar to all the other linux distrubutions available such as PCLinuxOS or UBuntu. MAEMO is based on GNOME interface (there is GNOME and KDE), and both GNOME and KDE had multiple desktop interfaces for ages. Some of the multiple desktop effects of GNOME rival even those of MacOS and Vista, if not better. Also, XPERIA's panels are add-on UIs used to improve the usage of WinMO's native UI, while the multiple desktops of MAEMO are native to it's UI. This means the MAEMO desktop is completely integrated into the OS while XPERIA's UI isn't (more like running a program, such as Windows Blinds, to make it's UI prettier.

For the disappointment of all Nokia n900 lovers.
It is confirmed now now nokia N900 is all landscape mode, only basic phone functions are potrait, what a pity, it means desktop, dashboard, browser, email, messaging, photo gallery will only work landscape mode.
Below is official words from nokia about it.

Maemo 5 UI for the N900 has been designed to converge computers with mobile phone. While most of the use cases are designed to make maximum use of the WVGA display in landscape mode (desktop, dashboard, browser, email, messaging, photo gallery), the basic phone functionality has been designed in portrait mode for single thumb usage. The dial-pad and contacts book work in portrait mode. The rest in landscape.

This phone is good but biggest flaw is it only works in landscape mode, nothing works in potrait apart from just calling.

At last Nokia decided to cope with the standarts of comtemporary smartphones. With 600mhz cpu, linux based meamo has a chance to work very efficiently. Nokia should give up prehistoric symbian and works on a new efficient OS, and I think it's maemo since linux has great built structure and requires much less system resources when compared to WIN and i guess it'll be the same in mobile versions of the systems respectively...

N900 isn't designed to be a camera phone...... it's an internet tablet with smartphone features, d***a*s. oh, and screw people who keep thinking a multibillion pioneer company copies ideas from "just" emerged and "merged" companies.... >.

Hmmm, it seems that the Motorola Sholes might, just might, be the device going against the N900. Just don't know if I should get this phone or the Sholes. I was going for the N900 for having full flash support, but now that Adobe is going to release flash 10 for mobile phones I'm not sure what to get now. Any idea?

Anonymous, 02 Sep 2009NO FM Radio. Only FM transmitter! There is also FM receiver hardware, but no software. Shouldn't take long to community to make (or update the N800's) software for it.

zak, 02 Sep 2009which one is better
n900 or iphone 3gs
there are thousa... moreN900 is better in almost every way. Looking at the memory the 3 G S is on 32G and this one coomes standard with 32G and you can add additional memory for a total of up to 48G.
The apps are a different concern as Apple has been tried and proven but we havent seen what Maemo has to offer either. So the Iphone wins in this department.
To my knowledge and from what I see the internet experience is much better than the Iphones as it allows you to have multiple windows up while running differnet applications on you phone, allowing you to multi-task and do a lot more things than what a Iphone will let you do.

sorry hani, the os is definately not better than iphone os.
its so complicated, a mouse pointer inside the os?? i did better buy a netbook right
its laggy, iphone os 3.0 with iphone 3gs has hardly laggy. from what i saw in youtube, its laggy so obvious
not much apps, and in future, it will become more, so to iphone apps, more and more increasing much faster
i must admit the nokia hardware is better than iphone in much way, but qwert keyboard which can slide out is definately not my choice, as the ribbons easily spoilt after 1 years
