first and foremost the unit is ok.i have no qualms about the fone itself or its design and feature.the idea of incorporating 16g of mass memory with dvb-h is a total entertainment package in one.why?coz you can store lots of mp3 and movie files and games in your mass memory.they say its big but i have no questions about the size.the truth is i thought it wouldve been better if they had it with a 3inch screen so you could watch better and easier.the battery is compromised coz of the slim design of the unit.since the cpu is slower than the predecessors of the n9+ series it compensated with the battery life coz it lasts longer than the first n95 series.if you compare the size of n95 8g its really fraction of an inch thicker than the latter.and well of course if you use the wifi and surfing the web longer i guess it would really deplete the battery life.but i think it all happens with fones with wifi and of course you have to consider the specified battery of your unit.the bigger the miliampere the longer it lasts but you should also think about the size of your unit.you get a bigger fone with a bigger battery life just like the e90 and e61i and the likes.so the smaller slimmer the fone the battery size is smaller.hence this idea is consumated in this unit.well the lagging is really there coz of the obviously slow cpu and actually i noticed that if you use another memory card on it and use the mp3 the more it lags and sometimes it really hangs that you need to restart the unit.so i took off the memory and used its internal mass memory instead.i thought why use external when you have a built in 16g.about the shut down i havent experienced it alot since the two weeks usage of the unit.i have used memory booster with the unit and actually it helped a bit.you can download it on emobistudio.com if you have the unit.i dont know if it really helps but i have it on my unit and i dont have much problem with it.the firmware version is just the second upgrade hoping that sooner nokia could make another better firmware version which i experienced with my n95 before and some other units.i think firmware upgrade helps alot with the bug fixes.mind you this is my opinion and i dont have any intentions to offend people or to argue with their own opinions about other brands and units or how they are loyal to some.i am not insinuating or blaming or accusing any brand or this of their mistakes.this is a forum and i am just laying down my experience with this said unit and i also would like to find ways and help of course from other members of how to sort out and solving or helping not just this certain unit but also others im sure youd be experiencing some faults soon aswel.hope i gave insight to those who are asking queries about n96.thank you!

dvb-h has come 2 my country and i love the concept that tv has been built in2 a cellphone with great specs. ive been waiting 4 this phone 4 a year but now im reading these negative views. do u think i should get an n96 or not, because i really want a phone with tv. 2 all u that have it did all of your n96 crash? i dont mind it lagging and a low battery but if it crashes theres no point in buying it.is there any way possible 2 make your n96 software better 2 avoid major problems?

i bought this phone when immediately it was available expecting to be a better n95 8gb
immediately i was surprised by the catastrophic design and software bugs
after one week i bring to nokia service
they kept the phone 5 - 6 weeks !
they did absolutely nothing
so i destroyed and trashed this n96
i am using now a LG viewty and it is good to jump from prehistoric nokia phones to actual phones !
never more nokia

I saw a N96 yesterday! next to a C905 and Samsung INNOV8(8GB)
N96 is the WIDEST out of them, and seems the biggest!
But it has a 16GB memory! Wow...thats the best bit!!!!!

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2008Are you actually naive enough to think that Nokia manufactu... morehey im not here to argue or to show that i have better knowledge in this techno gizmo world we live in.this is not about who is higher in learning when it comes to this issue.i was just giving out tips to those who could have bought imitations whether its nokia or whatever unit they might have bought.coz where i am there are lots of imitations that are coming from china and you can see them being sold on the streets and theyre really an exact replica of what theyre trying to copy.if consumers really are not keen enough to what they are buying they might be victimized by this fraudulent people who makes this exact copy or imitation.i have just given an insight and a warning to this people who are not aware by this that there really are copies out there and they exist.this is not concerning whether i am naive or im ignorant or im good at this coz i have lots to say and knows about the ins and outs of the mobile technology this concerns about consumers who should be wary about what they buy.i know you are sure about what you are saying and that website that you have just given and i respect that but maybe what we really should do is to help this people or supposedly consumers and lead them to the right way on what to buy with their hard earned money.in this crisis we are experiencing right now im sure a php 30,000(i just dont know how much is that in other currencies but im sure it really is expensive!!!)is not an easy thing to let go.mind you this is a forum and not a court where you can just hand out evidences to back your arguements.im just here to help consumers out with what they should do and buy.and for that i thank you!

hey guys the only thing you could do to check that if your unit is genuine and not a grey unit is to check the battery compartment and see if theres a nokia seal and you could also check the box if it has a seal of warranty for 12 months for nokia careline.there are china made nokia fones meaning it was assembled in china but the the pieces and chips they used are from finland meaning the ones thats been assembled in china are meant for asian countries.they have the same quality and performance.and you can see that if your got a nokia fone thats made in china if it has like two simcard readers it means thats an imitation and you can also type *#0000# and if it doesnt appear that firmware version or any indications about your unit that means its also a fake.be wary of imitations coz it only doesnt imatate nokia they also imitate other brands.like samsung sonyericsson lg and some other brands.

All I can say is that My friends and I got N96 and these phones are "Made In Finland" and they dont have any problems at all!!! If you guys check this site (www.dhgate.com) and look up for N96, this phone is less than $100 and that is a fake phone. However, you will get all the apps, exact same shape, everything same but U'll have problems with them. But the phones that are made in finland are originals.
