i agree. n96 is like a phone that when you bought it in september, in december you would end up regretting buying it because in 3 months time, a touchscreen and a 8mp nokia phones will be released at the same initial price of n96. actually i don't get the point in pricing the n96 almost 50% higher than n85 because the difference between n96 and n85 is not that huge in terms of functionality. infact, n85 is even better than n96 in so many accounts but n96 is way more costly. i don't think a 16gb flash drive costs that much. and dvb-h is not widespread right now and when it gets widespread, n96 will be long time obsolete by that time. i think that they overprice n96 because it merely carries the title as a flagship device. but i can't imagine myself shedding that big amount of money for a flagship device where there is a midtier handset which is cheaper and even better than the flagship device.

iolo003, 16 Sep 2008thats your opinion
again i like to challenge you to ask ev... moreYes I did, but it looks like you havn't. Where does it says "main reason for Nokia drop was because of economic slowdown". It clearly says the resoans is "aggressive price cuts by its rivals" and Nokia said it was losing share because of its "tactical decision" not to match the aggressive price cuts of some of its competitors, seeking instead to be "sustainably profitable in the longer term." It also cited tough competition in emerging markets and a slow "ramp-up of a mid-range Nokia device."
The 3rd quarter results are not reported yet. Its due on 16th October. It didn't "exceed" their prediction. "Nokia now expects its mobile device market share in the third quarter 2008 to be lower than in the second quarter 2008. This compares to Nokia's earlier estimation provided in the second quarter results announcement on July 17, 2008, when the company said it expected its mobile device market share in the third quarter 2008 to be approximately at the same level sequentially."
Which means now they have updated their earlier wrong prediction and now realizes that it will be lower in 3rd quarter. Is it so hard to understand or is it hard to acknowledge?

Interms of n96, only one word --> love it.
mainly bcoz of its simply cool design. It does have some software instability but I hope it will be gone when nokia come out new firmware.

mr.dude, 16 Sep 2008hey, I'm having a really hard time deciding between the n96... moreits the greatest and best value all-in-one mobile device you will own. nothing more, nothing less..
n85 though has the latest feature than N96, and the best value featured pack device so far, nothing more, nothing less..

hey, I'm having a really hard time deciding between the n96 and n85( like most of you are)
I really like how the n96 looks. Don't rally like the appeareance of the n85.
but I've been reading all about how the n96 is inferior to the n85.
The only phone i ever owned was the motorola RAzr V3i.
SO even if i buy the n96, it'll still be the grestest phone i ever owned right?
what do you guys think?

again i like to challenge you to ask everyone you meet if they want an 8MP or a TV with a vintage 5MP Carl Ziess in their phone?
and isnt it written on the news that europe is now shifting to DVB-H and other mobile phones companies wanting to put a DVH receiver on their phone.
@Kal
you have read the article fully, congtatulations!
it says the main reason for Nokia drop was because of economic slowdown and mention also about competitors, but which is stated first as the main reason? is it the competitors? nope, its the economic slowdown.

"Having taken a beating for most of the summer, Nokia in September revised its third quarter outlook, calling for improved profits. The third-quarter results reported Thursday exceeded the company's forecasts"
Foxnews.com
Isn't this a slap in the early prediction of Nokia.

gavla, 15 Sep 2008if u want a touchscreen go for a samsung or lg you plum and... moreNo complain. I wen Nokia for over 15 years but I like to see something new out of them instead of all these N series alternative phone and cheap phones start making. All MFG Sony, Samsung, LG, HTC, Asus and many other offering new products with new features. But Nokia only try make the same phones around N81 and N95. Seems like they do not know how to get out of the cage. I would look forward maybe to year 2009 see Nokia start offering New phones with new features and options.

I own a N96 for one day now and I am pi**ed.
Had 4 software crashes and one time I had to remove the battery :-( I am angry about the bad quality of the back plate, the stand is also very cheap and I have the feeling it could easily break. The back plate doesnt sit well, dont know how to explain, but when I use the phone, push buttons and so, it makes a sound as if it would crack or so. Very pi**ed. Well the installed software, hm, dont know what to say. For my opinion the speakers on my N810 are better.Keypad and Mulitmedia keys dont look that good; they look after one day a bit "used".
I live in Vienna, DVB-H seems to work -I see many progs and some stations send a tv program, but cant watch because I dont have paid for it. Not a good handy. Sorry. Bad quality. I could get angry !

Cactus, 15 Sep 2008So you mean that when N97 with 8MP finally arrives nobody w... moreNokia Neva said the N96 was an upgrade 2 the N95 8GB.......its an ALTERNATIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wanted 2 purchase the N95 8GB yet i didnt coz i needed more space.....so The N96 is an ALTERNATIVE.........Nokia realised that peaople are different so in order 2 suit the needs of numerous people and meet there charector standards in wat phone they should use, they produce a number of models with similer features for u 2 choose from.....that way they meet ur perdonal needs.....!!!!So if u dnt like the N96 that means it wasnt ment 4 you......Your baby is being Made by Nokia as we speak. So leav the N96 Alone....!!!!! This multimedia computer is outstanding!!!!..........
Who gives a snots nose about the i8510...........
No media keys....clearly not an audiophiles choice....

iolo003, 15 Sep 2008Nokia had forecast already, they wont reach their expected ... moreSo you mean that when N97 with 8MP finally arrives nobody will buy it since 8MP is not necessary at all? I think between 8MP and DVB-H, it is DVB-H which is not necessary. It's a feature that nobody is interested at all. Look at the forums everytime a 8MP camera phone is announced and how it stirs everyone's attention. And look at N96 forum and you can only count in your palm's fingers how very few people mentioned of that DVB-H. Infact, not too many people even understand what DVB-H is. It's a technology that will never get popular, and so is N96. Samsung INNOV8 is much better. I mean, a lot better. By the time Nokia releases its 8MP N97, Samsung INNOV8's price has already dropped down substantially.

I had the N96 for more than a week now, I love and hate it.
Hate :
Messaging is laggy, sometimes it takes a few tens of seconds before I can reply.
Changing Menu from Grid to V, Horseshoe or List, then I cant change it back, I have to reboot the phone.
Installing MSN, it tell me system files are already installed. Now, MSN is disappeared from Download.
N-Gage is not pre-installed.
Camera is mediocre, N78 3mp camera is actually better.
DVB-H is useless if your country is not ready or does not support it. Or worse, your country support it but not your Telco.
Keypad is good for texting but it doesnt feel stable, starts creaking.
Love :
The design grows on me, it just keep looking better.
Sounds quality from headphone is very nice !
Sounds from speaker are good too but not as loud as N95/N95 8GB.
I hope Nokia will provide a new software update soon to fix some of its bugs.
Now I'm thinking of selling my N96 for INNOV8 instead.

Is it because of 'world economic meltdown'?
The press release reads "It said it expected the mobile device market in 2008 to be hit by weak consumer confidence in many markets and also cited tough competition in developing markets, its stronghold."
