To the one that said this phone doesn't bring anything new, did you read the specs or compare the 2 phones N81 and N96? The N81 incase you didn't know only has a 2MP Camera whereas the N96 has a 5MP Carl Zeiss Optics!!
You should read things first before you say anything here instead of just looking at pictures or can you not read? And another thing, the N96 is an upgrade to the N95 not the N81 so they aren't gonna say N81 16GB.. Get your facts straight next time!!

it's not touchscreen? and slider phones always a candidate for repair. But i love it's great awesome packed features.

I don't think so. N81 8GB is not identitial with N96. N96 is lil' bit bigger. It has got bigger screen, and i thing, better keys.

Ok, so why after a year of hard development, has Nokia only come up with 3 improvements on the N95 8gig? those are: better design, twice the memory and TV included. Why do they think that this is worth upgrading from the N95 8 gig for? am i missing something here?
If not, im going for the Xperia X1 by SE.

I totally agree with you about the benefits of VGA res, which the fact that it does offer four times the detail of QVGA. But I guess you haven't read what Ying said about the battery drain and processing power, plus the price rising.
Nokia has NO INTENTION to throw Windows Mobile into their handsets. So if you're desperate to get a Windows mobile based device, you should look elsewhere.
About the battery research, I think Nokia has done much to improve them.
I am not sure about one thing. Does the N96 really have infrared? Not that I don't trust GSMArena and that this lack would be much of an issue, but I've seen tons of pictures and videos of this device with views from all angles, and I haven't noticed the presence of an infrared port (like N95, for example). No other website (than gsmarena.con), including Nokia official site clearly specifies this feature.

I dont know why Nokia mrfd phones like this.this ph has great feature but such a small battery can support all those high end applications.i think we surely carry a spare battery always in our pocket.nd also not so attractive-definetly this ph goin to fail in market.

I do believe it isn't that different from N95 8GB...except maybe they will put a better processor? Since RAM seems to be the same. Oh yes, 16Gb of memory is different but that's just memory...and it will be worrying if N96 has the same specs as N958GB but has more memory, it will be SLOW as the memory fills up. And just for the record...how useful will DVB TV receiver be? Hmm....I don't know

only things that are mising to this phone is the touch screen. even with out this feature, it is just packed with technology. perhaps a dual sim feature, and FM transmiter.
it won't be long before n96i or n97 will have these features.

Hi, Hi, Nokia, Nokia, produce phones after phones with a little by little addotional features. So, it turns up to be few almost same design with a little extra something.
Anything new ? Hmmmm. You can have a very good features pack phone with TV, Symbian, great 5MP camera, good media player, etc. But ..... BATTERY LIFE/TALKTIME. What happens to this most commonly asked/comments? In due respect, I don't means to insult, but how do "SE" managed to have their phones talktime upto 9 HRS ?
Thanks. I am a dual Nokia phones user. Just hopes Nokia will comes out with an upgraded E series instead of 'almost same' design N series. Cheers !!!!

I guess it does have GPS. Specs says it has GPS receiver.
Looks thick and bulky like the N95 though.
Nothing against Nokia but they seem to have a problem making compact phones with really good features. All their phones with good features are bulky like the N93, N95, Communicators and the like.
That will be the day when I see a sleek nokia phone with good features in it.

Since the initial launch of the Nokia N96, many ignorant commentators disrespected the Nokia N96 due to the equipped 950 mAh battery.
Several posts, made by me, discussed the battery benefits of the optimized hardware and software the Nokia N96 possessed. Yet many failed to comprehend the technology and concept.
I found an article which gives a full review of the Nokia N96. Specific details are giving of the device including a comparison test of the N95 8GB's 1050 mAh battery vs the N96's 980 mAh battery.
The original page is in Russian. I used the Babel Fish Translator to roughly translate it into English.
"Storage battery
In the telephone adapts the lithiumionic storage battery Bl-5f with a capacity of 950 mAch. The battery of the same capacity was on the the original Nokia N95, but already in Nokia N95 8Gb it increased to 1050 mAch. Takeing into account similar screens, sensation appears, that also on Nokia N96 to the court would arrive the large battery.
Producer declares about the fact that Nokia N96 is capable to work in the regime of conversation to 3.6 it is hour, in the standby mode - to 220 it is hour. The same concerns sound. In all remaining regimes the telephone works exactly just as Nokia N95 8Gb with the correction for smaller storage battery.
Under the conditions of Moscow networks the apparatus worked on the average on the order of 2 days with the intensive use (checking mail one time after is somewhat it was hour, to 5 hour hearing music, to 20 SMS- communications). It is possible with confidence to speak that the apparatus will work to 2 days with the most merciless regime of operation (exception - constant web-brauzing), in the case only of bells will be maintained 3-4 days, depending on their quantity."
To summarize, the 950 mAh rated battery of the Nokia N96 is equal, in some cases even better, than the 1050 mAh rated battery of the N95 8GB.

As much as I love Nokia, I can see that they are in a dilemma. It is obvious that for bigger screens (ie 2.8 inch and higher) that QVGA is not enough. One needs VGA res for images, text, charts, tables and graphs. All who have witnessed VGA res on 2.8-3.2 inch screens are always astounded by the result. Remember that VGA shows FOUR times the detail of QVGA. The N96 being a 2.8 inch screen and Nokia's flagship should really have VGA res. Windows Mobile is a far more processor and battery hungry OS and yet they are implementing VGA res, so there is no excuse why Nokia are stalling. How much longer are they going to stamp every phone with QVGA regardless of whether the screen is big, medium or small??
The TI OMAP 2420 processor can certainly handle VGA res. This processor runs two screens (one of which is high res) on the E90. It is the SAME processor that is used in the N95 8GB and yet in the latter phone Nokia resisted implementing VGA. The only reasons I can find for Nokia not moving on to VGA are price and unavailability of lightweight high powered batteries. Perhaps Nokia feel that a VGA screen will cause their phones to be too expensive. As for batteries, I wish more research is conducted so that those of 2200mAh can be implemented in a phone such as N96 without compromising weight.

this phone is too big! it has the same battery as the old nokia n95 and that means the phone will be dead in less than a day!!

the only 2 problems for me are the low cap battery and the low QVGA res screen. other than that it's 100s and no other phone can even try compete. Nokia is king
