              To john brand

The pictures you saw show the very same phone. It has music dedicated keys both on the dual slide thing and below the display. Each set activates when you have the slider in a certain position. The upper keys open when the slider is down, and also everything is displayed in landscape mode. If the slider covers those keys, the other ones activate.

I have noticed that all successful Nokia phones had later improvements (see N73, N80, N81, N91, N93, N95). I wouldn't be surprised to see an improvement of this one, maybe towards the end of the year.

                hey guys sup??
lsn i just wanted to ask whether there are 2 versions of this phone coming?
coz when u look at the pix, they sometimes shoow the n96 with a double slider, and sometimes they show the one with a single slider.
now the double slider has the music keys on the slider tht opens from the top.
the one which doesnt have the slider shows the music keys next to the attend and reject keys.
if u look at the pix on gsmarena u will also notice it.
                and abt the memory.
gsmarena has shown it like this -micro SD
                -8 gb ineternal
can anyone plz xplain me this?........
                thnx

WOW, Nokia has done so well with this phone. Building in a digital TV tuner is a whole other level. I also like the larger 2.8 inch screen and the built in memory coupled with an expandable micro SD slot, wish they had done this on the N95!
I am from the UK and really want to pre-oredr this phone. I found this site that lets you sign up for email updates:
                  http://www.best-mobile-contracts.co.uk/phones/NokiaN96.aspx

but would rather get a proper pre-order on the go, if anyone knows of a site that will let you pre-rder could you let me know? thanks

It's good to see an intelligent topic is being discussed. Steve J! You're alive! LOL! PDPg, you told me a false story. LOL!

                    To the readers,

Each of you have very strong, supportive views on QWERTY keyboards and mobile handsets. I agree with most you all said but there are a few items that needs to be corrected.

Without a single doubt, Nokia discussed the merging of a QWERTY keyboard into N Series devices. In my opinion, the main factor Nokia still hasn't, and probably ever won't, add a QWERTY keyboard to the N Series is because of the unavoidable conflict it will bring between the N and E Series.

How often, if at all, is the question raised, "Should I get the N95 or the E90?"

Nokia developed two distinctive series: the N Series and the E Series.

The purpose of the N Series.
                    http://press.nokia.com/PR/200504/991467_5.html

The purpose of the E Series.
                    http://press.nokia.com/PR/200510/1015195_5.html

The N Series is designed exclusively for the multimedia enthusiast while the E Series is tailored for business. Nokia has reinforced this by giving both series separate, traditional, premium characteristics. The QWERTY keyboard relates more so to business productivity. Equipping a N Series mobile handset with a QWERTY keyboard will contradict the concept of the series.

                    Regarding sales.

I disagree with the suggestion of a QWERTY N96. Furthermore, the introduction of such a device would more so decrease sales. As the QWERTY N96 sales rise, the E Series and all other non QWERTY N Series devices sales will surely drop. The N96 has now become part of this "all in one device" trend. A trend, which in my opinion, is a desperate "all or nothing" attempt. Not only does this take attention away from companion devices, it puts the company in a position where this device MUST succeed.

Regarding the discussion VGA vs QVGA.
Undeniably, VGA displays are superior in detail quality. Unfortunately, the vital requirements of a VGA display are superior as well, pertinently battery consumption. VGA displays require higher refresh rates to maintain premium stasis, unlike QVGA displays. This fact trickles down to processing power, which then trickles down to energy consumption.

Take the Nokia N810 Internet Tablet for example. Upgrading the display scenario to a WVGA, the device is equipped with the 1500 mAh rated BP-4L, Nokia's top rated battery. Review the specifications.

Now reevaluate the possible operating times with added features of the Nokia N95. After that, go speculate even further with the "my ultimate phone specs".

In conclusion, manufacturers choice of QVGA over VGA boils down to battery consumption. Ultimately when improved batteries become more available, VGA displays will become more of a standard.

                    Regarding the Nokia N96's purpose.

Still there are many ignorant to the concept of the N96. Still photography and gaming has been dedicated to other N Series devices. Multimedia video is the area in which the N Series has not explored.

Nokia is truly innovative. Youtube.com is the most popular public site hands down. The build of the N96 is optimization for VIDEO. Imagine the sales of this device once available. Just brillant.

I don't know you feel, but I prefer recording a moment in time rather than having a plain photo. Just a little bit more satisfying to hear and see as suppose to just seeing.

                    There goes hand held camcorders...

this is kind of phone for ppl who want easy photo capturing which result in lost of quality, no rooms of improvement anyway.. just always cmos with "zeiss" lens..

                        just my opinion.

Enuff with the complaints already. You can never satisfy humans...damn! Even if Nokia succumbs to all these opinions, there is still going to be someone out there with some lousy requirements. The first purpose of this phone(or any other phone in particular) is to make and receive calls... period! Every other function is basically innovation and convenience at its best. below are some of your suggestions to improve on the best phone that is about to be released.

                              Touch screen
                              Better battery
                              Lens cover
                              More camera pixel
                              Qwerty
                              larger screen
                              office editor not just viewer
                              faster processor
Hardware Color variety(now am i being too picky)

Nokia will continue to improve on their products. My question to you guy is.. do you really think there can ever be a "perfect Phone"

I agree with AGC. It would be like N95 (with is dual slider thing) was when it was first announced.

                                        To "...."

We all know what multimedia is. But Nokia and all manufacturers still need some time until you would finally see a phone with Nseries features, a QWERTY, better processors/RAM/etc, touchscreens, better resolutions, ALL in a compact design.

AND remember what Nokia officials said about the bettery and the bulkiness of N96? If a real problem to the size was the battery, what would you expect from an eventual QWERTY? That is the reason for which "I am not that sure about the population of unsatisfied users". I'm saying (AGAIN) that throwing a QWERTY (and other kind of stuff I'm not going to debate about) into the phone would not be impossible or useless.
