Pepsi, 06 Aug 2009I already have an iPhone, I wouldn't change it for anything... moreBackwards compability is an unknown term by Apple fanboys. Can you play original Ipod games on the Iphone? You can even play Commodore games on Symbian, while you can't on Apple platforms... not that the hardware isn't capable of doing so, but Apple wants you to BUY new games instead. Just like the lack of radio, Apple wants you to BUY music instead. Nothing that doesn't generate profit will EVER be availible on any Apple product, thus ALL your apps will be unusable within 2 years, when the next gen Iphone will come out with better screen res (Apple will unable BC, don't worry about that).

Besides, why and how is Symbian 1 bad? Do you know the difference between OS and UI? Symbian OS is miles ahead of Iphone OS, it just doesn't have an UI, so Nokia had to do their own. Multi-tasking and processing efficience are Symbian's main strength over the Iphone OS (lack of multi-tasking) and WinMo (ineffective CPU).

    monty-0, 06 Aug 2009The N97 is nothing more then a tiny step for Nokia whereas ... more"Hardware:
    - AMOLED capacitive touchscreen 16M colours
    - 32GB-64GB on board storage
    - 12MP camera wide 28mm Carl Zeiss lens
    - Video record at 720x480@30fps
    - Dual core processors (350MHZ)
    - etc

    Software:
    - Make Symbian open source
    - Free OVI map navigation
    - Free Quickoffice
    - etc"

12MP is already confirmed, but the release date is unknown, varying from Q409 to Q210.

Symbian Foundation OS says hello, and QuickOffice 6 might be free for the new C- or X-series, as it already is for Eseries (E72).

64GB will NOT happen this year, not too bad either, as it'd cost at least 200€ to produce and ship.

Nokia's GPS solutions are the cheapest availible, even for free.

D1 res video will most likely NOT happen, but WVGA@30fps is another thing, as the new Symbian OS will support 800x480 res screens. Don't except such a phone before October.

Dual CPU will NOT happen. Nokia might however use Intel's hyper-threading feature in their new CPU:s. This might however take awhile to reach the market, just wait. Might have built-in 3D GFX thou.

If the screen will be capasitive, then it'll use OLED tech. TFT is only used for resistive screen by Nokia.

All this, and much more will happen when the new Symbian Foundation OS will be finished. The reason why N97 wasn't such a revolution is because Nokia is still waiting for it, and it won't reach the market before Satio does.

Another good new: Nokia is prepping a N93 successor with 3x optical zoom (confirmed).

not many isheep stalking on OHD i8910 forum. Why?? because they are inferior to it and afraid.
that's not the case with N97 though..
you just wish that Nokia delayed N97 release and come up with 600mhz and capacitive.
Anyway.. maybe on sep 1-2 which is near distant we gonna get some enlightment from Nokeea.

The N97 is nothing more then a tiny step for Nokia whereas with phones like the N82 giant leaps were achieved.

There is no point trying to defend the N97. Although it has great features it is nothing more then Nokia's attempt to play catch up in the touch screen market.

Iphone is not that great either. It can't compete in hardware against the likes of Samsung and Nokia and it can't compete in software against Android. Its an overpriced piece of wannabe.

Nokia will take back what ever market share they have recently lost if the next flagship model will incorporate these features amongst the normal found:

          Hardware:
          - AMOLED capacitive touchscreen 16M colours
          - 32GB-64GB on board storage
          - 12MP camera wide 28mm Carl Zeiss lens
          - Video record at 720x480@30fps
          - Dual core processors (350MHZ)
          - etc

          Software:
          - Make Symbian open source
          - Free OVI map navigation
          - Free Quickoffice
          - etc

Right now the majority of the above mentioned features can be found in phones so why not put them all in one like with the N82

Guys, dont listen to these apple/iphone fan kids.

this is a good good phone, had it fo two weeks and hasnt crashed yet, everything works fine.

but remember as soon as you get the phone you need to update the firmware to V11, uninstall facebook and accuweather widgets or at leat remove them from your home screen, they drain your battery, RAM and make the phone crash.

you can also unistall all programs installed on C drive (phone memory) and reinstall them on E drive (mass memory).

here is a link on how to optimize N97

                http://nokiaexperts.com/tips-tricks-optimizing-n97-internal-phone-memory/

after doing that you wont have a problem, its got a nice big screen with a lovely keyboard, FM transmitter, GPS navigation (i use garmin mobile XT), texting and web browsing is a joy, its like a little laptop.

Anonymous, 06 Aug 2009no man its not crappy at all... if u dont like symbian ... moreI already have an iPhone, I wouldn't change it for anything else at the moment. This phones version of Symbian is crappy. Symbian themselves know that, and they are now developing Symbian 2 and 3, one of which is supposedly being released at the end of 2009/early 2010. So all these new phones with this version of Symbian are going to be majorly disadvantaged next year when they are outdated.
