this pda phone is a let down compared with the old mini. got it for a few day and i am mad with it, serveral time freeze need to do a softreset , dame slow even after rom upgraded , o2 u better have new rom coming soon

    Thanks so much for your reply. I will download PocketTV when my Atom back from service center :(
    I am eager to try the SMS tone. Do u think if its possible to send me a sample copy of the converted SMS tone to my email? Feel like trying to use other software to convert to that format if possible coz don't feel like spending...hee hee

      Sorry for replying late.

      1)Yes, setting sms tones is enabled by getting Ringo software. Hmm... setback is u will only have a few sec of the song being played when sms is recieved & it stopped soon after, thus it won't rang continuously even u dismiss the sms or already reading it.

      Windows media player is free to get from www.download.com or http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx
      And I would advise using wma format for it.


      2)Regarding movies, yes, I downloaded additional softwares.
      I'm using PocketTV (PocketTV Classic is FREE for personal use) & SmartMovie (which required to pay).

      To get SmartMovie: http://www.lonelycatgames.com/index.php?note=smartmovie&chapter=smartmovie

      Format for PocketTV is mpeg wherelse SmartMovie is in AVI (need not worry abt the conversion as downloading will provide us with a converter. More informations can be found at it's website).

        Just bought 02 for 2 weeks. todate still not able to connect activesync by usb. some time usb port shown power surge and unable to be detected. Appreciate all helps.

          Just got my O2, old rom, so ugraded, much faster now. But can't get activesync to work. Everytime I try to connect, it reboots my computer. Even though I read up on it on some forums, it says turn off any firewalls, I did that it still doesn't work. Can any help with this? Other that that its a great phone. Much better than my O2 mini.

            ROM Upgrade is worth it.
            02 recomends you do it.
            Your sales rep knows nothing.
            2 gig mniSD will work but why waste more than double your money when compared to 1 gig minSD.

              Hi, i would like to check with o2 atom user.. is it better to upgrade the atom software or as long it works fine i dun hv to upgrade it? :) btw, a hp dealer told me o2 atom worth no value after upgrading, is it true?

                          I saw your posting. Really impressed that u are able to set even your SMS ringtone and watch movies. Think only few of us able to do it! I hope u don't mind giving me some advice on that.
                          1) So what format do you use for the SMS tone? Understand u use WMP to do the conversion, is the software free and where did u download it? When u read the message, does your ringtone stop or continue to ring until it end?

                          2) Did u download additional software to watch movies? And...btw..what's the format?

                          Will be very happy if you could help...thanks in advance.

                            For those who like to see chinese characters on your sms, download this file mandarin composer V2 from http://www.trendsmobile.com/main/showsection.asp?SectionID=104 and install into your WM5.
                            I have tested and it works. No input of chinese characters.

                              I just bought my O2 Atom and the screen is on permanent freeze. I tried to Hard Reset it but it still freezes or just not doing anything. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or supposed to do? I can't you the phone at all.

                                hi all.. i still dun get it how to set mp3 to ringtones. coz when i right click the mp3 tones it didnt show any " Set as ringtones " on the phone.. helppppppp meeeee

                                  Hi guys, I want to know what your thoughts are regarding the 02 Atom.

                                  A: keep the 02 Atom and pray they fix it
                                  B: toss it out (try to sell it) and get something like the SE990 when released (approx next month)
                                  C: love it
                                  D: hate it

                                  I am seriously thinking about getting the SE p990 only after reading the reviews when released. I am sure from what I hear it’s going to be a superb phone.

                                  From what I hear across the board Pocket PC phones WM5.0 have all got problems thanks to Microsoft.

                                    just upgraded my Atom last Tuesday, and was happy to see more improvement on the phone. the phone has faster responses now. camera responds better than before, although the quality still sucks, but I hope O2 is still developing future ROM upgrades for utilizing the 2MP camera and the other features of the phone.

                                      I had no problem with mine. It worked fine. The only problem I had is that when I did the software upgrade to 20060123 it failed on stage 5 & I had to return it so that the software could be re-flashed. Still waiting!

                                      BTW, how to turn on the light so that it can be used as a torch light. The only way i found is by going to the test menu.

                                        To shermann.

                                        I got no problem setting ringtones from other formats like mp3, midi & wma. 1st, to solve the cracking ringtone problem, use wma tracks (meaning save more memory space) as ringtone. It works & I got this info from someone from earlier posting posted. RIngtones can be selected from the songs (best wma) you saved by going settings, sounds & notifications, notifications, event (select incoming call)& lastly at ringtone select the wma file you wish to use. If I'm not wrong, songs u saved will only be detected if you save at the folders (no sub folder cos that won't work). For less complicated one, choose Ringo, just pay US$14.95. I got it and it cost me SGD25. But additional feature like sms tone can be set as well.
