ROM flashing is still best to have it done by the expert with delicated PC or equipment in support centre. From my experience, during flashing, if any interruption from power line surge or data corruption from the com line will causes the device totally dead. Hoping to revive from hard reset may not be possible. More risky when flashing takes longer time to complete. Home PC OS is important too, should check status before commencing.

Hi Everyone,
I went to the O2 web site at www.seeo2.com, to update the new rom. However, I did not find it. Where am I supposed to go to do that?
If someone could let me know, that would be really great. Thanks a lot.

Guys and gals!
Did you update your new rom available on www.seeo2.com? It is 2006xxxxsomething. After redressing, it works better than 818pro and removes almost problems.

hello everyone . the Dopod 818 pro is the best one for a Pda phone . there is no problem with the speed , internet , sound , camera , bluetooth , infrared ... all running very nice ... specially the quality of camera , damn prefect , look like a ccd camera ... I tried to run more than three program , the speed of 818 pro also wont feel slow ... this 818 pro never ever hang since i had bought it ... i very like this phone ... luckly the Pda 's salesman told me that 818 pro is the best choice ...if not i must regret to buy atom even though o2 is branded .

I have the new ROM upgrade not yet available for download version 200512380B2WWE. The unit is better BUT still the slowest O2 device yet (I have used and supported all available in the Asia pacific region). There are still numerous bugs with the provided software, the speakers are ridiculously quiet, 802.11b is sporadic at times @ 100% power when all other devices have no issues with the WAP, to list a few. The speed issue is made worse by its impact on the text recognition which is just inadequate for a professional device. These issues may well be addressed in time but for my money I’d get the M600.

A quick note to all early Atom adopters.
Jus got my beloved Atom back from O2 Tech Support. Sw updated to version ROM:20051223B2WWE. It's more responsive. Camera startup faster. Picture seem to hav improved but when snapping, pls stay freezed for a couple of seconds for image capturing. System so far no hang, aft 7hrs. No complaints from caller abt voice quality via bluetooth, caller ID shown on bluetooth headset (V3 type) need further monitoring. Device lock stay locked during on/off. Bluetooth file transfer function OK. Wifi yet to explore. Speaker volume same as b4, designed for quiet place only. Main Memory status in setting abt the same. THANK YOU O2 & all support staff.

just returned my atom set to dealer after trying for 2 weeks. lots of problems especially the phone functions: bluetooth, speakers, handsfree, connections, breaking tones, system hangs, soft ring tones etc.
for those atom admirers, advice: don't even think about this set. wait for next batch or uggraded/improved version.

Like a lot of you, I am an early adopter ... well the Atom (BOMB) has nearly cured me. I REALLY wish I had spent $200 on a low profile wifi card for my O2 Mini and kept the other grand for hookers and beer :-)
Mine has a BIZARRE charging problem:I put it on charge and after a little while it just stops charging (charge light goes out). If you go to the power monitor it shows 100%, but if you unplug the charger it drops back to about 60% or les, depening on what the charge level was when you first plugged it in. Plug the charger back in and it goes back to 100%. Sometimes it cycles between charging and showing 100% charge. Seems to make a difference if you have wifi, bluetooth and mobile phone on or off, but I cannot be bothered spending the time to figure it out. At this time, the only way I can reliably charge is to take the battery out, put it back in, not turn the phone on and just plug the charger in. I might wait for a software upgrade but I am more likely to add my Atom to the 'early adopters' graveyard I have at home ...
Oh well ...

My Atom is now where near as fast as my old XDA II mini. Just got off the phone from O2 support and they tell me the Atom uses ROm whereas the XDA II mini used RAM and that ROM is slower than RAM. Ask O2 to teel their developers the Atom sucks as far as peed is concerned and they should think about this for their next model.

Have been using atom for almost two weeks now and I'm dissapointed to say the least with its performance and am not impressed with the quality of its casing either. I decided to get it as I hoped to find a replacement for my damaged imate jam but in no way did it meet my expectations as it lacks in many respects in performance and functionality with the exception of a few hardware additions such as the radio and stereo speakers which don't work that well anyway. Couldn't someone just make a worthy successor to the much loved imate jam? I'm still trying to figure out why all the new full featured pdas come so bulky with keyboards and huge screens and the xda atom which is the only compact pda that could be seen as an imate jam rival is delivering so poorly that will probably end up becoming one of the greatest fiascos in pda history
