The battery life for my Atom is nowhere near the specifications. Specs indicate 150 hours standby time and 5.5 hours talk time. I'm lucky to get 48 hours standby time (with no wireless/phone, no additional applications installed or loaded and no extra storage card).

I just changed my 2-week old ATOM to Dopod 818 Pro after having so many problems with the set especially phone functions. My Dopod still serving me well after 1 week. No drop calls, no bluetooth problems. I am glad I made the right choice to change the set instead waiting for the ROM upgrade and they told me it is still not available in Malaysia. Probably next month?
If I were you (ATOM frustrating owners). Cut-loss and change the set.

Some people have emailed me regarding how to do the rom update i sent them an email with instructions i hoped it helped. if anyone needs it just drop me a line.
Now that i have used the phone longer enough with the new rom update and i can firmly say what 02 claims the new rom update fixes:
"handling of call initiation after resuming from sleep mode. Fixes call issue after device has come out from no signal area". is total crap i have to reboot everytime this is a main problem with the O2 Atom we are all going to have to complain to them to fix this asap, this is not acceptable in a mobile phone. So start sending them complaints and when this is fixed only then will you will have a good pda mobile phone other than that they could improve the camera quality. Lets hope the next update is quicker than the last one.
oveall go with atom not mini why go with old tech all new tech stuff have some problems but they take time to sort out.
I have tomtom running on my atom its fine except battery really runs dead in approx 1hr even with the car charger plugged in but i can accept that for now.
and regrading some questions:
do you think they are going to make software for the old wm2003 or the new wm5 i think the new stuff why because who wants to buy old stuff. it will all come out soon just look around.

I am considering to buy Atom, but it does not seem to be money worthy. Voting results are also not that good (compared with Mini). Anyone could give his frank opinion whether to have Atom or Mini?

I bought it yesterday and have done the update. Works fine but it is a bit slow. I have also installed the beta version of Opera. Think this will work better than explorer.
One negative thing is that there is no protection for the camera lens. Don't know how to protect it from dust and scratches. Any idea?

If you live in New Delhi and are an Airtel user- PLEASE do not buy this phone. The phone gets disconnected between calls, voice clarity is horrible. Great Looking phone, but more of a liability if you are an Airtel user in New Delhi.

Hi guys, I was one of the few who got the 02 atom when it was first released and was very disappointed with what i got. don't ever trust magazine reviews for new products coming out listen to actuall users and their reviews to save yourself the headaches and your cash.
I have some Good news & some Bad news for those who have purchased the 02 atom, good news is the new rom update is avaliable bad news its hard to perform but possible.
If you are think your not capable of perfoming the update i think you should give it ago because alternatively you will have to send the phone in to repair center and they will fix it for you anyway. So thats a good assurance hey. So i am not going to list all the steps here how to perform it. But in a nutshell 2 main steps, step 1 look at the o2 website download the rom update step 2 install the windows sync software that is on the cd you should have got with the phone or download it from MS website. Let me warn you it seems simple but it is not. So if you want a detailed explaination email me on adslcyrr@tpg.com.au it took me a few hrs to work it out. and if you stuff it up you cannot hard reset the phone so good luck.
and the $1 question is, is it worth it? "Yes" it does not fix everything but it makes it a whole lot better than before i am sure you will agree. and this should help you out untill the next one comes out. so peace and thankyou 02. and i told you all 02 will bring out an update by January if you have been reading my posts.
