(1) Is Xda mini s comes with 128MB memory card or we have to buy it?
(2) Specs. says 64MB Ram and 128MB Rom, that means max. we can put only 128MB or more? If we can put more than 128MB then why the specs. says only 128MB.

Hi Ian,
Tried what you suggested with the contact list but unfortunately after bringing up the contact name, I can't click it to bring up the next screen. The contact name just displays as text and is unclickable. But hey, thats a minor detail, as long as the phone rings, right? LOL
Sorry, you are still having trouble with your router. Mine's is a Netgear, sorry can't remember the model number, but it's one of the few things that just worked, right from the start. You are also right, you won't use it much as you have your pc or laptop to hand but I agree with you, if something should work, you want it to. Best of luck.

Hi Ya Annie - Me Again
If you go to your contacts, Click on the contact you want and at the top of the screen where you see their name - Click on their name, This should bring up another box, Scroll down and just below the Mobile Number it says RING TONES - click on it and you can select a song to play when they ring.
Hope this helps.
PS I think it is all down to my router settings, It is doing me in now, Going to have to buy another router i think, I wont use it that much but because it has it i want it to work....lol
bye

Hi Ian,
Thanks for that. I now have my ringtone set to my fav mp3. Can you set individual ringtones to people on your contact list?
Sorry about your problems with the router. I selected the wi fi and it found my network. I typed in the IP code and at first it didn't work but as it is such a long number and you couldn't see what you were typing, I tried again carefully and it worked fine.
Thanks again.

Hiis anyone else having problems getting their O2XDA mini S to sync? I have a connection as I can browse the device and install software but active sync keeps giving me the following error:- syncronization could not be completed successfully.
I have searched the net for a solution and have tried the following things:-
Turn off windows firewall
Re install outlook
Remove and reinstall active sync
Remove connection info from laptop and XDA
Hard reset of XDA
Office updates
Turn off script blocking in Norton Anti Virus
I still can't get it to sync with AS 4.1
Its a great device but not much use if you can't sync the thing. I would welcome any ideas I haven't tried.
Thanks

Hi ANNIE
You have a problem assigning ring tones on your Mini S
If you
Go to Start / Programs and then open File Explorer. Navigate to the mp3 you want as a ring tone and press and hold (while the little blue circle does its bit) and then you select “Set As Ring Tone”
Your not think, I had the same problem and it took me ages but I am having a problem getting it to pick up an ip address from my router. I can get it to find it and it gives the ssid name I have set on my router but it wont assign an ip address. I think it is my router but who knows.
Hope it all works for you.

I got this mini s phone today and think it's great. Got everything working including wifi with my home network. One problem I am having is setting mp3's as ringtones. Call me thick or what! I have read that you have to copy them into the windows/ring folder but can anyone tell me how to do this? I managed all the 'difficult' stuff and now I can't even get the basic things to work LOL

HI
IAN - MSN NAme Change
To change your daughters name all you have to do is sign into MSN. You can do it using your XDA or by signing in through a PC and once it is done you can alter it to whatever you want

Hi - I have had this phone about 3 days and it is great! I think the light it is small enough to be usful and clever enough to be whatever you want to do.
I would like any help available out there on Wi-Fi - I am having a lot of trouble getting it to pick up an IP address from my router, I dont know my router make - onlly that it is a wireless 802.11b but it has worked fine with my other systems and laptops without error but although my Mini S finds the router and even brings up my SSID name it still cant pick up an IP address so I cant get on my wireless internet at home.
If anyone out there can give any advice i would be very greatful.
Thanks all and Thanks to o2 for such a great phone/handheld PC.

Hi, this is a great machine - but I'm having problems to et TomTom5 to work with my Bluetooth GPS receiver. The seriel pot of the GPS can only be set to com port 5 or 6 - and those ports are not available in TomTom. I assume that some ports are in use by other applications - but how can I find/remove them ? Anyone know how to see the assigned ports in windows mobile 5? Talk about frustrating ...ahhh
Sunny smiles :o) Jörgen

I've had the mini S for a week and I am now no longer having the phone application failing to work. As reported earlier I think this was due to being overkeen to close apps with Task Manager. In addition to the 'invisible' process I now also see a process with no name but showing the Media Player icon. When I switch to this process the phone screen comes up. So previously I might have closed this, not knowing what it was for. So advice is to only close apps if really necessary (e.g. Internet Explorer to prevent it refreshing when connected via GPRS) and when you know what it is.
So now I am very happy with this phone. Lots of people have asked me about it and have been impressed. Just trying to get videos to play on it - will have this sorted this weekend.
The only problem I have now is the supplied case with its magnetic closure seems to have erased my train season ticket. It stopped working in tube ticket barriers and the replacement also stopped working within 24 hours.
The original ticket may have stopped working due to being creased and the replacement due to being incorrectly set up as a one-day ticket but I think not. Anyone else had this happen?

...so there I was, stood in the o2 store, Lord Street, Liverpool, UK.
I have been using XDA's since they first come onto the scene, around 4-5 years ago. I had the large XDA, with the antenna on the top right hand side, then the XDAii, then the XDAiis. After my last XDAiis came to the 'end of its serviceable life', only 9 months after I took delivery of it, I thought it was time to change. I was completely undecided between the well equipped XDA Exec and the XDA Mini S.
Having trialled the XDA Exec for 5 days, courtesy of o2, I decided against it. It was heavy, large and somewhat ugly. It really reminded me of an early 1980's calculator, with huge buttons and cheap plastics. A night out with it in my pocket around Liverpool saw many people thinking I was happy to see them! I also found it kept dropping calls, and even with 3G techonology, it was not 'lightening fast' as it was advertised to me by o2. The lift and flip screen also worried me somewhat – I just don’t think it would see out a 12 month contract without breaking or at least becoming really flimsy.
So, I took the XDA Mini S for a test drive (sorry for the car pun! DOH!). On a serious note, the XDA Mini S, is light (only 160g), sleek and very modern looking. At first, I was a little put off by the smaller than usual XDA screen, but this is soon overcome by its quality. The quality of the plastics, feel and workmanship is far superior than equivalent models. The ‘side-out’ qwerty key board clicks into place with a reassuring click, and feels nicely weighted when you are typing those length word documents up, possibly on the train home from a worthwhile meeting.
On the downside, the operating system (OS) can drag a little at times, however, this is only a minor flaw compared to my previous XDAiis which would freeze and lock at every given opportunity. I have found that by clicking the ‘receive call’ button, resets most of the dragging, and normal service is resumed quickly and easily. I am not entirely sure about the software which o2 installs for the ‘Today’ screen, which is rumoured to be the cause of the ‘dragging’ problem, but this can be removed if you wish, with a bit of searching for instructions on the net. The introduction of Windows Mobile 5.0 is also a lot silkier to use than Windows Mobile 2003, especially when linked with the latest Bluetooth 2.0 and Infrared and Mini-USB connector.
Memory is not what it should be. With only 128MB flash rom, and 64MB Ram, things can get restricted, however, the mini SD Card slot means you can purchase a 1GB card, for around £50, to store your valuable ringtones, alarms, documents, images, videos, etc….
All of the hardware buttons on the XDA Mini S are easy to come by - and are 'where you would naturally expect them to be', and the on-screen keyboard, however small, is easy and familiar to use.
The 1.3 megapixel camera is a welcomed upgrade from the previous XDA models, and the addition of a flash is a nice touch. Having tried taking pictures late evening in my garden, I was quite pleased with the results. Its not a pixel perfect image, but it is far better than most phones or PDA’s of a similar ilk.
I was also pleased by the quality of the dual speakers, especially playing MP3’s.
So, on the whole, I would recommend the XDA Mini S for most. There really is no excuse for the price difference between the Mini S and Exec models. Everything the Exec could do (or which I wanted it to do), could be done by the Mini S just as easily.
All of this, and it is only a slight bit bigger than a normal mobile phone – rather than the size of a paving slab. I worthy contender for your next phone…
I would give it a 9.5 out of 10.
Thumbsup from me....GET ONE!
