Oppo Find X2 review

Introduction

Following up the Pro with the non-Pro can be somewhat of a recipe for disappointment for a bunch of reviewers, continually starved for 'better'. We like to think we're ones that approach any phone objectively and that's what we're going to be doing here with the Oppo Find X2, a month after we had the Find X2 Pro over for a spin.

A lot of the key bits are the same between the two - like the 6.7-inch AMOLED display that outspecs pretty much any other on the market, the top-class Snapdragon 865 chipset, the blazing-fast charging solution and the battery (60mAh less, you say? Okay).

An entirely different rear camera setup is in stark contrast to the parity so far. The Find X2 is missing the Pro's exclusive big-sensor 48MP primary cam, replaced by a... smaller-sensor 48MP primary cam. A run-of-the-mill 2x telephoto sits where the Pro has a striking 5x periscope, and the 48MP ultra-wide of the ultimate flagship makes way for a 12MP ultra-wide on the Find X2. The selfie cams are the same, so there's that at least.

Perhaps the one other moderately significant downgrade is in the IP rating - with IP54 vs. IP68 the Find X2 we have here is only covered for splashes while the Pro should comfortably survive a dive. But there's an upgrade of sorts too - the non-Pro will save you some €200, which is a whole extra midranger right there. Not that at €1000 the Find X2 is exactly cheap, of course. Here's a quick look at what that wad of cash gets you.

The Oppo Find X2 arrives in the same blue box with a triangular pattern and gold insignia as the one we got the Pro in - so far so good. Inside it, we're treated to the same contents, for the most part.

The 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 power brick is present, as is the USB-A-to-C with proprietary wiring for the VOOC tech - be sure to hold on to both pieces if you want to be able to top up the Find X2 as fast as it can. There's also a soft but thick silicone case to provide protection as soon as you take the phone out of the box and a pre-applied screen protector will save you that initial trouble too.

The one difference when comparing to the Find X2 Pro bundle is the headset - here, you'd be getting a set of earbuds as opposed to the Pro's in-ear headphones. Each type has its own fan base and opposition so we can't say which are better, though we can also imagine the bundled earphones are hardly a reason to pick one phone over another anyway.
