however..these days these flip phones are getting bigger and bigger..now they are the size of non flip phones even woth their flips closed..and i am really disappointed at the built in cameras on the gd88 and N8..unlike nokias and ericssons which have 640x480, the panasonic and nec only 357x288 max..

I'm at the moment in Taiwan! Last weekend I was in Taipei in a phone shop: the guy there, told me, the phone is made in China, will be available in 2 weeks and cost 27000 NT$ !

Till now I was a big fan of this GD87/88, but when I watch now NEC's latest N8 at threegmobile.net ....
This NECs looks great & even more high tech ! Price about 612 Euro and announced for Nov. !!!

isn't it strange that panasonic's official website doesn't advertise this new GD87 phone yet? also... no news on the internet or in shops. looks like a ghost phone...

yes true, but i read the camera is a CMOS camera supporting 110,000 pixels..pretty poor compared to nokia 7650 300,000 pixels..

Somebody posted something about 182 x 132 pixels being 110,000. What kind of math is that? It would have to be around 331 x 331. Still, this is very small for a digital photo.

In Asia the phone will be released as GD88, and in europe GD87.But according to an asian test of the phone, the prototypes is with a tru CCD camera and the screen is the best TFT and highest pixels screens too! So u cannot belive the initial pictures will be the real product. It's only supposed to be able to take 132x176, or 110,000 pixels. So don't let the pictures fool u... The screen is not what it looks to be, that is the roumers, sad i think. Maby a prototype is a available for sale.. Go to: www.threegmobile.net/gallery/panasonicgd87/index.html

I've seen / played with both the GD87 and the sharp GX-10. Both are good phones but i liked the GD87 more as it felt lighter and better made. Also the menu system on the Sharp was hard to use. The other big thing is you can take a picture with the clam shell closed on the cd87 as there is a button to snap just below the external display. Other than theat both phones are very alike.

I personally cannot wait. I believe it is going to be realeased on Orange first in the UK to compete against the Sharp GX10 from Vodafone? Hopefully in the next few weeks, its in the latest Orange catalogue but I asked yesterday and they still had no date. Some of you guys with inside knowledge must know if the first batches are being produced yet? Come on I am dying here waiting for this phone, don't disapoint me panasonic. Hmmm 65k tft :o)

I like this phone, it would be perfect if it was a tri-band. But every were i look(exept a russian page)the phone is a dual-band. I doubt the russian page is right, beacuse panasonic has stated that it is a dual-band so... With the new 3G phones on the market around new year(early 2003) GSM fhones with dual-band wil be old fashion, and tri-band is the least you could expect in such an overall luxery and exspensive GSM phone.
