irshad , 18 Sep 2014wellcom panasonic iam cheering on itThis device have a great sense of putting a high end camera to smartphones and tons of nonsense.
No xenon flash.(disappointment but still can live with that).
No OIS (shame and same time strange when almost all major smartphone flagships these days have ois, a camera centric smartphone or smartcam do not consider ois. Hard to understand)
Venus engine (why they put Venus engine on cm1 if snapdragon can perform better than that.)
No slow motion. No standard 4k video recording.
All above shortcomings can be ignored if they use micro4/3 MOS sensor with interchangeable lenses.
Sadly they didn't considered it either.
Lastly the price tag..almost usd1000.
True madness nothing more.

The camera has a 1 inch sensor. Its hard to believe that it will drop down to 500-600.... Dedicated Camera's with 1 inch sensors cost more than $500
Im very interested in this Camera although battery life of this camera is a concern... I am an enthusiast photographer so this phone looks promising

Ok. So I've had it for two days now. I'll break it down into two sections, the phone and the camera. So, first the phone. Out of the box, it updates ota to 4.4.4, which was surprising. If you prefer, you can also download the update and flash it from your sdcard. The first thing I noticed was how snappy and responsive the system was. I went about setting things how I like them, and right now I'm running NovaLauncher and it's flawless. The UI is straight Kit-Kat, with only three Panasonic camera apps, one being a picture gallery. The speaker sound is impressive to me, considering it wasn't a major focus of the device. Calls over it were received and sounded clear, unmuffled, and didn't drop at all. The display is sharp and adaptive. I didn't have any issues seeing the screen while using it outdoors. There's also an option to adjust your tint and white point if you find it necessary, though I have not yet. On storage, I have 11 gb available on the phone, after apps and things, plus my external storage. Comforting to know that no matter the format, I'll have room for the photo sizes to come. Video recording didn't lag at all, and the zooming function, at least for me, being a traditional smartphone camera user, was pretty awesome to use! That goes for pictures as well. If anyone wants to see my picture tests, let me know. They're already out there though. The overall design of the phone makes it a very comfortable grip in my hand. Switching from phone to camera is almost too easy. What surprised me the most was how light it actually feels. I had no problems with it fitting in my pocket. On the developer side of the house, things are a little rudimentary right now. I would guess that's because this device is in a class by itself, but, like anything else, time heals (and roots) all things. Developer options are available, as per usual, but only adb commands are available. You can boot to recovery from android, but there is no access (as far as I can see) to a bootloader or any way to enable a fastboot. Again though, I'm sure someone wiser than me will eventually figure it out. After all, they are allowing flashable updates via sdcard, which would seem to allow for custom roms or images, at least. Overall, this feels like everything this device should be. Once everyone else's hands get tired of curved, wide and monstrous devices, I can see this being the next type of device people will go for. After all, of you're going to carry a camera and a phone, they might as well be together, right?

I've just ordered this and am waiting on arrival. I really weighed the pros and cons, and my conclusion is that with the way things are headed with modern photography and social media, this strikes a great balance between phone and camera. At the end of the day, if you're going to carry a phone and camera, you'll be paying for both, so if you look at it that way, the price actually evens out. I'll write back with my results once it gets here.

mungo, 15 Oct 2014Those who are rejecting the phone because of the lack of a ... moreTotally agree with your points. The only time I want a flash is where there is a bright background and I want to eliminate the shadows in the foreground. I think this Panasonic and Leica collaboration is a good one but only appealling to those wanting a fast apecture with a big sensor. If they can make a zoom lense with a constant apecture, this would be great but I suspect it will be bulky. Good news is few will buy it and the price will drop over the few months (I hope).

girboy, 08 Dec 2014Can anyone in Hong Kong tell me where I can buy this smartp... moreIn Hong Kong, there is basically only one place worth looking for a phone, if it is not there then I doubt if you will find it elsewhere. Sincere Podium in Mong Kok.
https://foursquare.com/v/sincere-podium-%E5%85%88%E9%81%94%E5%BB%A3%E5%A0%B4/4d6b6862994f224be8eb13eb
This is not to say they have the CM1, it is fairly new and rather niche at that price point (what is the list price BTW? The link on this page says it is $US1,899). For a point of reference, I looked at rakuten.co.jp, it is around 108,00 yen or approx. $US907. I also checked out expansys.com.hk as they generally have the current list price but they do not stock this model yet.
If you have not visited Sincere Podium before, there are generally multiple prices for same device, there are devices with a local warranty (most expensive), and then there are parallel imports that support the warranty that it was purchased from (this is the cheapest). There maybe variations on this and the device can come from different countries.
As for myself, I love this concept. If history repeats itself, this will be sold in low volume and they will likely dump price in 6 months. If it gets down to $US500, I will definitely pull the trigger.
I hope this helps.

Does it support optical zoom. If doest then what is the amount. If doest what does make it a Camera spirit in a mobile body not a mobile sprit in the body of a camera
