I bought the Z1 - initially I thought it was an awkward size, but now, it feels right and I can't imagine ever using a smaller handset.
I can't wait for the Kit-Kat update.
Worse things about the Z1? Camera not as special as it should be and the speaker is poor. But I can live with those - after all, it's a phone primarily, not a camera, and it does it's job very well.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2014I agree with you but the Justin Bieber award has to go to L... moreIf anything Sony or IOS 7 have the cartoon UI..And that is not an insult fanboys. It has the popping shapes and colors...That is cartoonish...Touchwiz is a lot more minimal. It caters to functions over looks, but is still neat, clean, organized, and none are ugly. Which ever you like is preference...But nothing offers what touch wiz does.

Has anybody noticed and commented plastic strip between glass and aluminum???
No review covers that... It is disgusting!!!
I will never buy Z1 just for that.
iPhone is 10 leagues in front just because it's only metal and glass, no plastic!!!

Because iPhone 3GS,4 and 4S were all 135 to 140 grams. The came iPhone 5 weighing only 112 grams and you changed to max 120 grams. Well, which way does the wind blow today, i bet it always blows from Cupertino no matter the compass direction?

One more thing, removable battery is the favorite of criminals, they can pull the battery so the phone cannot be traced through apps like MyXperia. A phone with a pin code or pattern plus nonremovable battery has like a 100 times higher chance to be retrieved in the first 8-10 hours after theft, criminals consider the item hot until the battery runs down, but with Samsungs they dont have this problem, just pull the battery and they are safe and untraceable, after that the phone will not be turned on again before it is in the hand of a criminal cellphone technician who will unlock the device and disable tracking.
Several people have written about this, like "i used to hate non-removable battery until my phone was stolen and recovered after just a few hours, will never buy with removable battery again". Major advantage.

DQ, 30 Jan 2014Yes, and I wasn't bashing Samsung in any way... actually I ... moreAbout the shatter proof film, it is Japanese legislation, they put it because it is required. They dont have to do that for phones sold outside Japan but they chose to do it anyway (maybe because they dont like lawsuits from people who got their pockets full of tiny pieces of razor sharp glass) with few exceptions (like the international model of Z Ultra, the film would kinda ruin the use of pencils as stylus)

Funny story, about Anonymous from 4QSR and other Sammy fans, why they think onscreen buttons are bad. Im sure many of you seen it already but never thought about it, its because they dont know how to use android. You will notice that they never use appswitch, instead they keep most of their favorite apps on the default homescreen, so to multitask they actually first press Home button, then start the app all over again! Even if it was already running! I seen this so many times, and its really true for Sammy boys.
Thus, instead of using half a second to switch apps like on Xperia and Nexus phones, they waste 2 to 10 secons, to find the app on the home screen or appp drawer. Even if they know about appswitch they dont like to use it because you need to change grip to longpress the HOme button on samsungs, and longpress makes it take 2 seconds anyway, its not faster than going to homescreen to restart the app.
Sammy boys are so ingrown with inefficient and unclean UI, and they dont know any better. Welcome to Xperia, the Android experience the way its developers meant it to be, efficient and lag free.

Incredible is that we are wasting so much time on the notification light..

I wish your S4 Active good luck to survive that but no matter how much i wish you will fail. Acro S was not a great phone but it was strong as F.

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2014It's funny how everyone mentions great build for their favo... moreYes. But the S4 Active is generally ugly, with a strange, non-minimalist design (you might not agree but most people will agree). With a cartoonish or childish UI that screams Justin Bieber. And most of all- BIG. Z1 Compact IS COMPACT. Your S4 Active is not.

DQ, 30 Jan 2014That might be your opinion... however:
1. Removable batt... moreIm aware of the notification light on some older Xperia models, i have an Xperia U here that has a weak led that is invisible from an angle but i wouldnt go as far as saying it bothers me. My Xperia Z however has even smaller led, but its much brighter and visible from all angles, not at all like the 2012 Xperias, nothing to worry about.
This phone has no dealbreakers, all disadvantages are so minor that they are barely worth mentioning and its main advantages are huge. Hope it arrives here soon so i can buy it on February payday.

Anyway as good as Samsung phones can get, and they do even on plastic... I still like the materials, feeling and overall design of Sony phones a bit better...
For instance I love the Shatter proof film they add to their phones, and many people hate it because it scratches easily... but the thing is that I have seen how it can prevent the screen from cracking like a spiderweb, and instead the crack is small like a hairline... So I rather have that extra protection plus an additional scratch resistant and disposable sheet, than just glass...

And S4 active has water proofing and still removable battery.
