Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 review: By the dozen

07 February 2014
Samsung's pole position in smartphones doesn't necessarily mean a win in tablets but it sure is an advantage and the Koreans won't give up on it easily. The Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 is standing at the very top of a lineup, whose fourth generation has hit the fast...

So everyone has an idea what to expect. Yes it's not cannot replace a laptop, or desktop, or server. More interesting, it cannot be replaced by _any_ other device. MS Surface is smaller, no Wacom pen, less run time, lower resolution, higher price. Wacom Cintiq 13HD - it's 1.2 kg, not something you can hold in one hand, lower resolution.
So, Note Pro 12.2 appears to be a quite unique product with no close competitors.

PS: Tab Pro is a completely different story.

Why do I get a feeling that lots of people are in their dream world? Just cos pro is written on this thing doesn't make it pro. Sorry its far from it, having the wacom digitizer (a.k.a spen) doesn't make it pro, it just makes it a good note taking device. How the hell can they call this thing a pro when it has lots of drawbacks.
    1. Can't replace a laptop (the on screen keyboard is far from being the best way to type long texts and it would be awkward to use it on your lap with a bluetooth keyboard, you will need to be sited on a desk and place the device on a stand to use it comfortably.
    2. Difficulty to use it with existing devices in offices, the est way to connect to devices in offices is still the traditional usb like it or not. Businesses are still not ready to invest huge sums in infrastructure just to be able to use these kinds of devices comfortably.
    3. The soc is still a far-cry from what Pros need. The arm soc still has a long way to go before it can beat or surpass the x64 or x32 socs.

I you really want to do something more useful than just experimenting with new tech, get a Surface Pro or Pro 2. Those are the only tablets that allow you to be really productive. No one can persuade the big software makers to duplicate their current desktop applications for Android and iOS. It's just too expensive for them.

I think Samsung must even bigger for the note series. They should now persuade Corel and Adobe to make Desktop software like After Effects, Photo shop and Corel Draw for The Note Series since they are now powerful and come with a mouse. Samsung should also make an All in One desktop with tochwiz. That way they can really beat Apple and Microsoft.

AnonD-146453, 15 Feb 2014The Surface? MS can't give these things away! This looks... moreYou can get iPad instead of Tab Pro. But without precise stylus it cannot replace Note Pro.

Playing with mine for a couple of days. I'm more than happy :) Wanted it as a paper and pen replacement, and it works well in this role. Even better in many aspects.

Whoever owns it, look at "Word" app, it's free and is really nice for handwriting. For drawing you already have Sketchbook Pro preinstalled. As you get $25 in Google Play you can use them buy something useful, apps are cheap. For example I got file manager (better than default) and multi-timer.

Is the back cover 100 % synthetic/vegan or is it PU leather (which contains polyurethane + cow hide)?

This looks like a nice size, but I personally will wait for the large screen iPad. I just like the iPad way better than any other tablet: it has a better aspect ratio for a tablet and it's also ultimately better designed and better built.

I think this is the best tool for thinking. Really, I use pen and paper now, and this seems to be a good replacement. I already pre-ordered it. Don't care about business apps as long as they are removable. :) All I want is the ability to write, draw, correct, and easily save/find. The key here is "easy", as while thinking about about something else I don't want to think about the tablet and it's interface. My guess I'll have to get more apps from Google, probably buy some. Security and privacy might be a big problem though...

Only the steep price of this device prevents it from becoming a bestseller and arguably further eroding market share of established laptop manufacturers. The Surface Pro has already begun to achieve this.
