Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet review: Elemental

04 April 2014
Thinnest, lightest, highest water resistance – there are plenty of superlatives you can throw at the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet – prettiest is another, though that one's more subjective. What is certain is that Sony has crafted one of the best tablets of 2014...

Very nice tablet. Still prefer my Lumia 2520
No apps? Who uses them more than ones?
Most important are built in the system, and 90% is a web browsing anyway.

oh you BEZEL complainers...you have become such annoying hipsters...
I hope one day you get a totally bezeless smartphone or tablet, so you could brag about how it's bezeless, oh, and that extra extra accessory called a SMARTHOLDER, so you can actually USE your bezeless phone or tablet

AnonD-179696, 05 Apr 2014Low pixel density ,it is a joke in front of galaxy tab pro. Like you would be able to see the difference at 20 inches distance.

There is this reviewer from a foreign language smartphone site, he swapped the super-low res iPad 2 of his wife with an iPad 3 with Retina, transferred settings and data and everything from the iPad 2, since it had a cover she could not see it was not her old iPad 2. She used that ipad a lot all the time but never noticed, so he switched back to iPad 2 again, she still didnt notice, then switch to iPad 3 again, and she didnt notice still. The difference in resolution is 4x, much more than the small difference between Z2 Tablet and Tab Pro, iPad 2 has a very poor resolution indeed, but its not that easily visible at normal viewing distance. Especially not for you.

To make a comparable situation with Z2 Tablet vs Tab Pro the tab pro would need 4k resolution, that is 3840 x 2400 (16:10), and no pentile allowed, it would have to be true RGB.

Once again this points out the main weakness of GSMArenas battery testing procedures, very rarely can you find two phones or tablets tested at the same brightness, they simply set it to 50% brightness and thats it. Certain other review sites uses a light meter and try to calibrate the brightness to 200 nits to make it fair for all.

Anonymous, 05 Apr 2014Nice tablet, but the iPad Air is still considerably better.... moreI cant think of any 16:9 Android tablets, all i seen been 16:10, though i know 4:3 also exist outside of iPad world.

Going for iPad Air here too, already had an Android tablet in the house and were amazed of how useless it was, what a waste of money. I have done some testing in stores, both iPad Mini 2 and Ipad Air and the ability to ignore resting thumbs on the screen gives handling a new dimension, on Android you actually need those big bezels, handling one of the newer slim bezel samsungs is a joke and a very bad one at that.

Nice tablet, but the iPad Air is still considerably better.

I hate the 16x9 aspect ratio on Google tablets. It's like looking through a tank slit at web pages or documents. For tablets under 13" the 4x3 aspect ratio of the iPad is much better unless all you do is watch movies on your tablet (if this is the case, get yourself a large screen TV, it's so much better).

I also like the iPad design and build better.

But in the Android world, this one is probably the best.

Nice review! Good tablet, but TabPRO 10.1/Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition would be my buy if I'm into 10" tablet.

I don't understand why people complain so much about bezels on a tablet. When you hold it one handed, your thumb need a surface to rest on in order to hold it securely, rather than just letting it rest on your hand. I find a wide bezel makes this more comfortable since there is more surface for the thumb to rest. The extra inches don't affect its portability either. So what is wrong with a wide bezel besides aesthetic reason and that it's a valid fad among high end phones?
