Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet review: Elemental

04 April 2014
Thinnest, lightest, highest water resistance – there are plenty of superlatives you can throw at the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet – prettiest is another, though that one's more subjective. What is certain is that Sony has crafted one of the best tablets of 2014...

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2014I never understood the Sony love. This tablet is slim, ligh... moreBezels also have a function, a place to comfortably hold the tablet without covering the screen. More of a subjective thing than anything else. And battery discussions should never be about just capacity, but rather usable duration, which seems to be quite compeitive still.

Anonymous, 04 Apr 2014I never understood the Sony love. This tablet is slim, ligh... moreI have to disagree. The Z2 tablet has great unique looks, great battery life (nevermind the capacity, just look at the battery scores), AND extremely lightweight. I can't stress the last one enough, lightness is one of those things that is subtle but very important, like a great score for a blockbuster film, you may not notice, but it improves the experience exponentially. I admit the bezels are on the large size, but a) Android provides no form of "thumb-rest" tolerance on the touch input, and b) a 10" screen is never portable, even with zero bezels.
That is excluding its waterproofing, great for kitchen use (trust me if you like to try new recipes, it's a BIG plus). Though I don't take my phone or tablet with me in a bath, there are many who'd like to.
I think the only two "flaws" I could point out would be :
    1) The lower than competition ppi
    2) The low speaker volume
But for the lower ppi you get sharper videos ( no rescaling for 1080p content), so I guess mainly I guess it's only the speakers.

It needs to have the bezels for the impressive sound system on the Tablet.
But of course a ignorant Sammy basher would never admit this..

*This is in continuation of my previous post
While not as feature-rich out-of-the-box on stylus use as the S pen on Note tablets, apps from google play go a ways to make it extremely stylus friendly, with the added benefit of being able to use any pencil or stylus.

Side-note : If possible, I'd request the mods to merge this comment with my last one.

I never understood the Sony love. This tablet is slim, light and waterproof. But it also has massive bezels which make it uncomfortable to hold, tiny battery (50% less than the competition), low resolution. IMO the things it is good at are niche requirements, and the things it's bad at are useful for all (ergonomics, autonomy, fidelity). It sacrifices usefulness for for, i don't get it.

Oh nope. I was right about the new Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 LTE does indeed boast far better specs than this tablet in everyway.

Good review. Great Tablet. Only wish the speakers where a bit better but since they are front facing I believe it's Ok. Been looking to buy a tablet some months now so I probably found my winner.
