Sony Xperia Z2 review: Action pack

16 May 2014
Quite a few people were getting impatient at one point but a Sony flagship is well worth waiting for. But then, wasn't it clear well before the impatience started to kick in that owners of the original Xperia...

z2 is bulky over size phone for a 5.2" screen.

not comfortable in palm hand.
flat rectangle glass back is not good in hand!

curve back is more comfortable to hole in hand!

sony should learn from htc m8, or lg g3!

Actually Z2's phone to screen ratio is almost identical to S5's. Z2: 69.45%. S5: 69.78%

Unfortunately, if the photos are for real, they are muddier than the photos taken with S5 or i5S. That was an important point for me. So I guess I will go with iPhone 6.S5 is out of the question, and M8 has the worst camera of all modern phones, while the WP devices are dead to me.

And the S5 is not cheaper, AT ALL! The Z2 retails for £530/£549 and the S5 is selling for £569! Give credit where it is due of the 2 phones the Z2 wins the duel hands down and all that bloat plus gimmicky finger print scanner etc are such a waste of time! About as useful as a fart in a wind tunnel!

I actually own this phone and have had it for around 2 weeks now. The speaker volume is good, not excellent but also not poor, to be honest I hardly ever use the speaker and when I do (bit of gaming or video sharing), it more then fills this purpose. I have had no problem at all with the headphone volume, its plenty loud and given the fact its noise cancelling it can afford to be a lower volume while still sounding loud. Infact the lower volume should be commended for not damaging the ears while still playing music at an optimal volume with the best in ear headphones that are free.

The screen is not great in direct sunlight but otherwise is excellent.
                the waterproof is the best.
Design is very nice, slightly large but you get over it. It does attract smudges tho
no problem playing any game or loading applications and internet is blazing fast on 4g or wifi
camera is one of the best and I prefer super auto as I am not a camera expert and I just wanna take nice photos quickly, I also prefer the 8mega pixel default size as it saves space and I don't need massize 20 mega pixel, only occasionally would I use this.

This is my two week review, it was close between this and the M8 but felt the M8 didn't move things along the camera and waterproof department and that the sony was the best all rounder. Samsung didn't come on the radar as I didnt like the look, I'm sure others do but for me it looked cheap.

People need to get over with low sound on Z2. Its a IP58 rated phone so Z2 is better than Samsung S5 with IP67 when it comes to waterproofing, so the sound is lower in Z2 but in no way inferior to S5.

Chin and bottom bezel are too thick as usual, on screen key taking too much of the screen, 20MP is a gimmick with no OIS presence..

As for sound...waterproofing IS an excuse, we are yet to see some other manufacturer produce a device with better sound in that ip category. As for the earphones, people should use dedicated in-ear-bud earpohnes for best experience with Sony, which is superb by the way.

All in all use what you want and enjoy, but for me Sony has the best user experience and overall best device

Built in noise cancelling makes this the phone to beat in the audio department.

WTF! Will someone plus test the noise cancelling compared to a stand alone headset like the Bose Quietcomfort? Would also like to know if the people complaining about low volume always have their volume maxed? Have you actually tried this phone with the NC enabled? Also fm is important to me as I listen all day. It doesn't use any data and is easy on the battery.
