If you actually have knowledge in technology here and you are honest, then you know that the Note is the all around best in most areas. Preferences put aside and actual benefits/advancements.
You can prefer something else all you like. Fan boys can lie/deny all they like. Everyone has an opinion. Fact however, is not affected by opinions or preferences.
Plus you ruined you're own point while proving you are a dishonest fan boy just like the ones they mentioned.
They said "best phablet" and you mentioned "2014 phone". Unrelated and different years. Plus the note still has some advantages compared to Z2. You just wanted to show your own fan boy ego for your favored device.
On top of that you just blurted out about design and build quality illogical and of bias fallacy.
Design is preference. Plus many people liked the look of Note 3.
And build quality is based of the sturdiness, durability, and overall quality of the build..... Not which material you like better in YOUR OPINION.
The Note's build quality is at least equal, if not better.
Glass at the end of the day is no less a cheap recyclable material same as plastic and aluminum.
The difference is that high grade premium plastic Poly Carbonate, which is not cheap plastic, is overall more durable/cost effective/and more practical than the other two materials.

And it definitely gets some serious scratches. And those dents are not pretty.

Note 3 beats them both. Is any company ever gonna release a Note 3 beater? It comes top in all benchmarks, has best features, very good camera,great sound quality (Viper4Droid FTW), great screen etc... neither of these two phones even come close.

But we all know that doesn't mean all the Z2's have bad quality glass. I personally couldn't risk it, so went with M8. And the M8 also felt much better on my hands when I asked to try them both before making my final decision. My old HTC Desire Z took all the hits and never broke down because I dropped it. I believe M8 has the same quality.

Overall the Z2 is a little better. But they are both great and reside on preference.
Z2 I belive had the better all display, but I believe M8's is better in sunlight.
Camera, 3gb or ram all versions. Timescape is preferred by many. Ip58 water and dust tight. Still has good stereo speakers.
Design and material are preference. Both glass and aluminum are cheap recyclable material. The Z2 is a good bit thinner while M8 is more rounded.
M8 has better speakers, much louder headphone output, some versions with s801c.,
