LG G3 vs Samsung Galaxy S5: South Korean derby

18 June 2014
Samsung's Galaxy series has been showing no signs of slowing down and Samsung's shift into the limelight of modern technology can in large part be attributed to the emergence of the world's most successful...

AnonD-80553, 19 Jun 2014700 nits is nothing against the sun's powerful 7,000 to 10,... moreThat has no logical ground at all.
Larger display is a preference of people. And G3 entered phablets.
Plus it does 0.4inches more does not fix how much dimmer or more reflective it is.

Does not matter if it beats the sun or not. The point is it's above what the others have and a decent bit above LG.
You try to deny what the S5 can do in defense of the G3 while exaggerating on G3....how logical.

And even for indoor levels that's a small difference that still favors Amoled'A mole D'Souza advantages. Plus they tend to have higher perceived brightness.

LCDs are over saturated too. And LGs ips displays are among the most saturated. ... so your point is competent and 100% irrelevant and flawed.
Now to further debunk it....not only are they over saturated but they have generally less evenly calibrated colors than Samsung's Amoled displays. They have fake blacks and washy contrast on the best of the best. Their white balance is almost always way too warm. They are more reflective. They generally have uneven lighting with bright spots. More leakage. They consumer overall more power and space as well.

But ooooo....the colors are "less" over saturated. Congratulations.

Read again, the reasons presented in the comment I replied to, to go for note 4 over G3 (more modern HW) are the same resons to go for G3 over S5 (more modern HW).

Was that really so hard to read for you?

Hence the S5 is still crap outdoors, just like any other. And again, for most people outdoor in the brightest of sunlight isn't the most common situation to be using the phone.

You also forgot the screen size. The screen is significantly larger, without the phone beeing significantly larger. The S5 has better colors in cinema mode, but this is only good for very low light conditions. Under most normal conditions, the G3 is better, even though it is far from the best display in a flagship phone.

No on a 5 inch 1080p display penile "especially diamond set up" is not a big deal at all. No matter how much you try to convince yourself?

Only people in LA would care about sunlight visibility and S5's is barely different compared to others?????
Is this your first day talking about/using phones?????

Reasons to get note 4 are same to choose G3???? Reasons to get the note 4 are the ways it improves over the S5 in which its already overall better than G3.

Holy buckets you love to miss inform like there is no tomorrow. Wake up and smell reality fanboy.

by the way the battery life on G3 should be updated soon since the unit they used was optimized for Korean carrier.

they must do battery test for the FINAL UNIT G3 Europe model to be more accurate.

They are both poorly color calibrated in stock setting.

Almost always when I calibrate someones display to what is accurate, they want something different - to fit their subjective preferance.

Different people have different preferences. Some prefer over/under saturation, and some prefer overly bright, or not at all bright enough picture. Hyper contrast is also a typical choice (especially young ones), despite the fact that in on these incorrect calibatred modes, the viewer will loose out on information in the picture.

I prefer correct calibration, so I can see everything the display is able to produce of the source content in it's most natural way.

[deleted post]G3 is not best of all in these areas, but it is better than S5 overall. This wasn't a dual vs HTC One (M8) or Xperia Z2. If it was, it would have lost in the display department.

Despite its inferior color, contrast, and sunlight legibility, the bigger screen diagonal and the higher resolution still has its say at the end of the day. The QHD resolution may not be readily apparent when it comes to browsing the interface, but it does make a difference when you see the ultra-crisp text in webpages, and especially in watching QHD videos or playing games. As more QHD content becomes available, the advantage of having the G3 display will become even more pronounced.

Sammy fans should understand QHD is still better than FHD in overall Display qiality

It's been this way for ages, and in fact some older varities were better, but that affected what really matters - how the phone looks in normal lighting.

Btw, most of your info is absolutely incorrect. You see, IPS has very decent viewing angle. Needing more is a bit ludacris as our eyes would struggle due to physics. HTC is actually of those who have usually had the best color and grey scale calibration in the android camp, but LG has almost always done better than samsung. Why? Because samsung has pretty much calibrated their phones to the aRGB color scale while everything it has to reproduce is in sRGB. Hence absolutely everything is over saturated and incorrectly displayed. It not as bad in the best mode (Cinema) in S5 is a lot better then previous models, it still isn't completely accurate, and it is best used in low light conditions. S5's screen is over saturated and the stock mode is horrible.

You might like this, but then you must realise that it is in fact you who prefer a incorrectly calibrated display.

AnonD-255623, 19 Jun 2014Really now. Pentile or RGB isn't an issue at these densitie... moreActually pentile vs RGB is highly relevant still. You can dream or imagine yourself what you want, but fact is it matters a lot. Fact is that if samsung were able to make a RGB AMOLED at 1080p for a 5.1" screen they probably would, but they're not. In many (in fact probably most) ways I would prefer a 1366*768 RGB matrix over a 1920*1080 pentile matrix. Why? because everything from text to straigt lines looks a lot better with this matrix. But hey, at least samsung has improved on their grey scale calibration. S3 was their worst peak as I can remember.

If you solely work, or reside outdoors (in Los Angeles with bright sun everyday as an example) then get a screen optimized for it. For the majority that is not the case, and most of the time is spent indoors or outside it partly coulded weather.

Also, the slightly difference between the S5 and any other flagship phone outdoors is so small it's hardly worth mentioning. You can see just about enough to read and write and that's it.

The reason you claim one should wait for Note 4 is the same valid reason one should get the G3 over the S5. It's got a bigger screen and more updated internals with goodies such as 3GB RAM. Only difference is the the G3 is actually available.

Playing the waiting game with cellphones is hopeless because every 3 months there will be something better.

The Moto X is a very nice device, although I wish it had a better battery. Not necessarily like the MAXX, but closer than it is. While I'm very happy it has a RGB AMOLED matrix, it would be even better if the sub pixels were more euqally alligned, but I guess it was the best samsung could do for them. Same matrix as in note 2. Luckily they stayed away from the pentile of previous generation.
