Oppo Find 7 review: Dark horse

02 July 2014
When talking about flagships, one name that keeps on popping up alongside the likes of Samsung and Sony is Oppo. Needless to say, it has long stopped being a surprise. With solid offerings of the past two generations in the Find 5 and N1, Oppo is...

I just bought one! Switched from Note 3 to Oppo Find 7 and is loving it so much. Aside from the screen, it's design, usability, and power is just amazing. Speechless!!! Wondering why I bought all these branded phones before with low value for money. (Most of the price was for the marketing budget and image while we get shortchanged on equipment.) Haven't gotten this excited in yeeeeaaarrsss...

Much superior whits and power management to the one made by lg

Considering that Oppo is quite new in smartphony, compered to all the other big names, Oppo is really doing the best job!!!! And everyone who look to its specs will realize that Oppo really is offering the most complete specs! And with the most value for money ever! So compliments to Oppo! !!!!

The only reason why screens with unnecessary high PPI are being put into smart phones is to make higher res PPI screens cheaper and to reach very high ppi so that they can later be used in other devices, mainly virtual reality ones like oculus rift. But this is not done so that smartphones get better. This review shows that it makes things worse actually (battery life)

"Sorry for the double posting, but it wasnt my fault, it was chrome's"..
There is something that i cant understand about you guys, that you never talk about vivo xplay 3s in gsmarena, "The LG G3 is the only other major smartphone that offers a 1440p display", realy ? My ViVo xplay 3s is the first one that came to market, sorry :) And its amazing in every aspect, thank you..

Anonymous, 03 Jul 2014Oh!so now xperia z2 is like a battery god.You haven't read properly what I have said then. Z2 isn't any more impressive than most SD 801 powered phones out there because the LTE/3G modems are the bottlenecks under true heavy mobile data usage. The screens are no where as power hungry as the displays, even a 2K display for that matter.

Under LTE conditions you are held back by the 3G/LTE radios more than the SoC and even less so by the display. Under WiFi the GPU that is working harder becomes the bottle neck. The displays themselves consume far lesser than any SoC or LTE/3G radio individually. The Screen is the catalyst to cause the high GPU power consumption in the case of the G3.

This is why the G3 slightly betters then G2 in video playback tests done by guys here at gsm arena. They are playing SD 480p videos on all those devices. Start playing 2k media and the G3 will have obviously lesser playback time.

zach, 03 Jul 2014Stop spreading lies please, im using z2 almost 2months now,... moreJust by being on LTE/3G all day and doing everything else apart from heavy browsing and IMs is NOT heavy usage. I can get more than 6 hrs screen time if I simply enable mobile data and do just about everything else but browse or do mobile data intensive activities.

No phone gets you more than 4 to 4.5 hrs with these 28nm radios. It's process limits.

When I use heavy I go straight 22 hrs without charge and heavily use browsing and Whatsapp. These two will be right up there along with the screen in terms of usage. THAT is heavy, not your weak way of using it and then saying it lasts 6 hrs. You are not using it heavily enough. I do this frequently as part of my job when I travel around the world to support my companies customers. So am busy and I don't have the luxury to get a charge in between at airports and trains or even at foreign site premises because I am shifting even within the offices for meetings and technical discussions with various departments. Carrying power banks are a pain.

mir, 03 Jul 2014And the result is the same bad performance in battery life ... moreNope it's not. The LG G3 vastly better in terms of battery life if you are looking at only WiFi usage. On 3G/LTE heavy usage any phone even the Z2 doesn't go more than 4 - 4.5 hrs. I have already used the Z2 for an entire week. It's all down to the 28 nm radios and their limits on current tech.

On 20nm the mobile data usage under heavy conditions will probably reach 6 hrs and definitely cross 5 hrs consistently.

The upcoming Exynos chip while it is expected to be on 20nm process it will be using a 28nm Intel LTE modem so there is not much to look forward to there. We need to wait for true 20m on-die LTE solutions from the design houses.

2015 is the good year for that, in 2H 2015 we should see first true all 20nm solutions sampling.
