OnePlus One review: When opportunity strikes

09 July 2014
From zero to flagship killer in less than 6 months. That’s the life story of OnePlus Tech – a big chunk of which went in explanation mode. First it was their relation to Oppo, then the reasons why their debut smartphone got...

I know the experience very well how reviews can sound positive or negative and when we actually play around the device things are quite different for better or for worse.

              - Yellow banding issues on the lower part of screen
              - Cell reception issues
              - 2 mono speakers instead of true stereo
              - low phone call volume
              - hardware buttons are too dim

I really resent this company. I'd like to say I won't buy it, but I'm still on contract & can't afford a $600 phone, so I will buy it, if it ever comes out. I hope the company fails, though, for making us compete to give them our money.

Extreme value for money even more than the lackluster Nexus 5. Good battery life for the price. I can get this for about USD 374.

Very decent phone to buy hands down if you are on a budget.

Don't know what is latest obsession of companies with ONE moniker. We had the nexus one the original, after that HTC has been stuck on One like forever, Microsoft joined them by releasing xbox one which happens to be 3rd in the series :S and now this. They could have just named it Two instead of OnePlus One haha :P

Slightly better overall than LG G2. But not a G3 killer, of course.

Limited availability and only available through invite system. I have waited so long to get an invite but can't get it. Also no after sales service for the shit.
Better to go for xiaomi mi 4 when it releases so that I can actually buy it.

No SD card slot. Why do developers not listen to users? I'll be OK though with 64M, but 16M?

Well, I suppose it does not matter anymore anyway, Google has decided for us that we do not need SD cards, so effectively with Kit Kat, they stole my 32G SD card I have paid good money for.

Google is becoming more and more like Apple. May we soon will have a Goople phone. More and more I am thinking of Windows phone.

Google has also decided that we do not need to sync our calenders with Outlook and from 1 August the service will stop completely. They will most likely even stop third party apps as well eventually.

Now they want us to pay $5/month for Google Apps - for us in South Africa it is the same as $50-$60 in the US with our currency. As I say, more and more like Apple. Syncing is actually such a simple little program, why try to force us to use stuff we do not need?!!!!

Otherwise I really hope that One makes it big!
