OnePlus One review: When opportunity strikes

09 July 2014
From zero to flagship killer in less than 6 months. That’s the life story of OnePlus Tech – a big chunk of which went in explanation mode. First it was their relation to Oppo, then the reasons why their debut smartphone got...

,,Then of course, there are the issues surrounding any potential warranty claims that you may have down the road. Without a network of service centers around, you'd have to send the phone back to China if there are any issues down the road. You'd have to factor in that risk and the potential hassle, too."

That is actually not true. If you buy the phone in the EU from OPO then you also get EU warranty. Same applies to USA.

The resellers sell the chinese version of the phone, which has chinese warranty.

In this age of Internet and Digital radio, is the omission of an FM Radio really so bad????

          The whole OnePlus phone debacle is ridiculous. this isn't a phone, its a marketing technique;
          - OnePlus haven't shipped in any meaningful quantity despite a much heralded 'release date' that is rapidly receding into the distance..
          - As a company they are vague about units produced and their announcements never include actual numbers.
          - The OnePlus forums, a major marketing channel, are patrolled by volunteer zealots who kill off any negative comments with an enthusiasm I've never seen before (why not be open, like the Amazon product reviews/comments)
          - It is not a flagship killer when it is in such a state of vapourware.

I imagine a mass produced phone will appear, but not anytime soon, but that will have served the marketing purpose of delaying purchasing decisions for the 1000's waiting to grab a bargain.

So, in reality, the OnePlus motto should be less "Never Settle" and more "Never Deliver"

kk, 10 Jul 2014Ha ha... True.. Stop whinning about SD card fellas.. I personally have a large music library. 64 GB SD card is enough for now, but only because there's a bit more usable storage space than if my phone had a 64 GB internal memory. Fortunately my M8 supports SD cards up to 128 GB, still room for ugrading. :)

Need more phone like this! Not a cheap useless phone that can barely force big manufactures to lower their profit margin!

By the time I was waiting for an invite, I got LG G2, yet one of the best phones out there without getting stabbed every time I sit somewhere. 1+1 is too late and it could be compared only to previous generation flagships.

I also wish GSMArena would include a stand-by benchmark in the battery test. They don't need to run the phone until the battery goes flat, but just measure how much % the battery drops in a standardized time frame (ie. 8 hours) and if they could repeat the test with data on/off and wifi on/off that would be even better.

This review is full of contradictions: 1. A good display with poor blacks isn't a good display, not to mention it's got some of the poorest contrast scores in the group. I've seen and used a OnePlus One in HK 2 weeks ago and the screen is ok/average at best. 2. In the Battery Life section they say "real-world results fail to truly impress" and then at the end of the review they say "Battery life was very good" despite talking earlier about poor stand-by power management.

Let's face it, take out the Snapdragon 801 and Adreno GPU and replace it with a Mediatek Octacore and Mali GPU -- now, who wants one for $300/350?

                                Yeah, thought so.

,,It costs just $350/€350 for the 64 gig version"

It is actually 299 in Euro for the 64GB on oneplus.net:)
