Moto G (3rd gen) review: Good as gold

06 August, 2015
It is hardly a surprise that the third generation Motorola Moto G is one of the most anticipated smartphones of 2015. After all, in less than two years after the first iteration of the smartphone (Moto G became the most successful phone in the company’s history) made its debut, the Moto G product family has successfully redefined what a budget Android handset should look, feel, and perform like and how much it should cost.

AnonD-373241, 07 Aug 2015No stereo speakers! You are joking? The previous gen Moto X... moreMoto g has lost a lot of its appeal. Its not the cheap high end phone it use to be. Its a budget to almost middle class device now. First gen moto G was awesome for its time but now they just fit a market segment. Save up abit more and buy yourself a moto x style or hang around for the new range of nexus. That's what I'd do after looking at the moto g 3 specs.

They are kidding. On most markets price of Sony z3 Compact dropped below $400, not talking about samsung galaxy alpha which is knocking to the $300 range, while Moto G 3rd is just a bit below $250.
Of cause the same argument applies to all the competitors in the review, but some of them at least offer something better than mediocre 13MP shooter and 720 screen on the 410th chipset

No stereo speakers! You are joking? The previous gen Moto X didn't have them and now does. This used to have & now doesn't! What the??.

Lenovo K3 Note is better and cheaper. I am not saying just based on specs but I have used it.

I originally owned 2nd Gen Moto G. I fell for all the hype and bought it. Its a very good phone but it lagged and was very slow, especially after Lollipop update. Camera was average at best.

This one only seems like a minor improvement over the previous model. I would take it seriously only when they start using a more powerful processor. This 410 is a joke.

I'm waiting for this review. But it seems like a short review in camera department. I wish they update it soon. And there is no words about absences of gyro.

Dear friends, notification LED not necessary in moto g,because it has a new feature to show notification. When ever you take the phone you can see the whole notification without unlocking the phone. So don't worry about it.
And forget the negative comments. If you want a quality product stay with moto g. SD 610 is not necessary, moto g running on the stock android. so it run smoothly.
And we got the useful features like moto maker,IPX7,android update, etc. So choose wisely.

By the review it looks like a great phone for this small price. Kudos Motorola.

Guess I'll have to be looking for a different phone.. or go with the bad stereo anyway. I'll have to hear it for myself.

It's still priced too high compared to the market. The 1GB RAM model is too constricting so you'd have to pay $220+ for the 2GB model. But if you spend $30 more, $250 can get you a phone with much, much better specs such as the Alcatel Idol 3 or Huawei P8 Lite which are readily available in the U.S. from Amazon or even retail stores like Fry's for the P8. The Idol 3 and P8 are similarly priced with better screens, much faster CPU/GPU, better speakers(dual speakers on Idol 3), NFC support, etc. Even the Zenfone 2 would be a better buy. I can only imagine choosing this Moto G if you truly cannot handle a 5.5 inch phone (try this size first before deciding) or absolutely need close-to-vanilla Lollipop (which is sort of a moot point since all of these phones can be flashed with different Lollipop roms anyway: custom or vanilla). The 2GB model should be the one at $180, not the 1GB model.

How can be that 2nd gen have stereo speakers, but 3rd gen don't? I really wanted to buy this phone, but now knowing that it doesn't have notification light, it bothers me even more.
