Huawei Mate 8 review: Checkmate

27 January, 2016
The Huawei Mate 8 has dropped the Ascend badge, but it offers all the key pros of the Ascend Mate7 and then some. Coming a year after the Mate7, it was only expected that the Mate 8 will show maturity and address its predecessor’s shortcomings, most notably the poor graphics performance and the less than stellar camera output.

love the look, would need to put a different launcher on it but disapointed int he display stats. I can accept maybe a worse screen than my 6p but it seems its worse than my old LG G2 as well? Not sure i could leave with such a step back for the price needed.

I didn't say any bad with the resolution or gpu or any kind spec of huawei. You are in the wrong post, I replied the first post who asked the battery performance between L1520 and this Mate 8 and the second person replied to my post about gpu and power. And then you are in and said about resolution and performance. Oh I can't live in this world anymore. People always misunderstood. To GSMarena, it is better you do something to redesign the opinion site that can eliminate any confusion thus make this a bad-words free website. I love any phones and I'm not a fans of any brand, it gives me nothing, they (manufacturers) never give me free phones.

i want this phone, audio quality is important to me and this has amazing headphone out support. C'mon how bad can the camera be its 16MP!! does anyone here think that with software/firmware upgrades for the camera will solve most of the issues?

I don't simply understand Huawei's methodology. They are the makers of 2015 NEXUS which is winning accolades all over the globe. Why aren't they sticking to stock Android experience even after Nexus success. Such a waste of beautiful body and impressive CPU scores.
This will remain in limelight until A9 arrives. It will be far better in camera and GPU department. That too at $200 less.

sexy beast. and that battery life is just mouthwatering.

i'd have preferred QHD though. or even amoled FHD. but IPS LCD isn't very competitive by today's standards; still good but not standout.

GSMA on NEO IPS... it no longer looks as spectacular as before. Don't get us wrong, it's still noticeably better than any regular IPS LCD...
care to explain the sense or is it just your love for samoled speaking?

So based on GSMarena battery test, Lumia 1520 got 107h battery endurance compare to this Mate 8, 103h . Eventhough Lumia has old SoC it doesn't meant it has problem, WP doesn't much power for working well unlike android. How many gpu power, ram or whatsoever you throw to them, they still will have problems and the end you need new phone to keep you updated. Btw my 2012 Lumia 520 still working perfectly and will get W10M soon, and my lovely 1520 too. Cheers

Maybe GPU is not benchmark complients, but it performs the same when you play 10minutes
Not like exynos's framerate witch becomes half or s810's witch falls too...

In-game framerate measurements are better than benchmarks...top android's gpu are Awesome in benchmark but not much than good in-game.
