Samsung Galaxy S7 vs. Apple iPhone 6s: Blind shootout revealed

21 March, 2016
Samsung went back to 12MP camera resolution with the Galaxy S7 for the purposes of great low-light imaging, but this means it's at equal megapixel count with the iPhone 6s, plus Apple does 2160p video too.

Because they use the corner of the device where the camera basically has the whole thickness of the device to itself.

Apple does the same thing. Yet with a smaller sensor has larger bumps and barely a hair thinner. So try again apple fan

So we get a better image quality, but you guessed it, the camera module will get bigger.

So now think about how Apple changes the design of their phones, every two years right? So the 6s shall look like the 6 and design is very important for Apple. Additionally, because of the 3D touch, the battery already had to get smaller so we can imagine there is really no space in the device left at all and the camera humb is already annoying.

So do your 1+1 and see what result you got and then you know why they kept the same 1/3 sensor size

There's also RAW option for the S7 if you worry about the highlights

This is how Apple works, 'Apple phones used to have large pixels too, the iPhone 5s had 1.5µm pixels on its 8MP sensor, but with the new 12MP sensor in the iPhone 6s dropped the size to 1.22pm.
Why did Apple not use the new 12mp sensor with larger pixels 1.5pm in the iPhone 6s?
It is Apple flagship and it is very expensive!
Because Apple will use the same 12mp sensor in the iPhone 7 with the larger pixels at 1.5pm and hopefully a wider aperture at least f/2.0 because iPhone is really behind the competition with that aperture f/2.2

But the daylight photos just don't strike me as being any better than that of the S6. In fact the S6, for me, produces better photos in daylight.

The S7 is great for low light due to the large aperture.. But in broad daylight there will be too much light causing highlights to be clipped.. That is why Nokia included ND filter in N8 and 808..

Only part where the iPhone did better was dynamic range. But the Galaxy did better on all fronts (including HDR)

So bummed. I replaced my Note 5 with the S7Edge today.

The few shots I have taken of high contrast areas appear worse than those taken by the Note on a 30" monitor. I imagine on a 70" TV it will look much worse.

The dynamic range of the S7 is almost as bad as it was on the S5. I wish I had waited.

It's incredible that some people posting here do not see the significant clipping in bright areas by the S7. They must never look at photos on large screens.

You can post-process the iPhone's daylight photos to look like those of Samsung, but there is no coming back from the Samsung processing, the information is lost forever.

Samsung did a great job for low light, but a poor job for daylight image processing.

This is all about convincing iphone owners not to jump ship. Most of the comments on here amount to either ooh, ooh the iphones the best or, ooh they are both the same. The comment are from iphone staff or Pr team. Don't know who's paying for this Pr coup (not.) but the fact that the iphone is even being mentioned in the same camera article is a win and the fact its being manipulated away from Dxo's stated facts means this farce may serve the intensions of its fabricators. Sham.
