Samsung Galaxy S7 vs. Apple iPhone 6s: Blind shootout revealed

21 March, 2016
Samsung went back to 12MP camera resolution with the Galaxy S7 for the purposes of great low-light imaging, but this means it's at equal megapixel count with the iPhone 6s, plus Apple does 2160p video too.

I've selected the photos with the best dynamic range even if they are a bit less sharp. Some of the photos have the highlights overexposed in order to probably compensate for the shadow portions darkness. I bet the photos with the best dynamic range are form the iPhone.

          A- S7
          B- 6s

A - more detailts but I see a lot of sharpening too.

I prefer the color from B.

it is sort of disappointing, no major brealthrough for s7 here. early leaks on s7 suggested they would use pixel binning, and that would make a difference. sadly nothing worth of note happenned ... A and B pretty close and pretty dull

The iPhone is totally better than the Samsung, sadly. Way better white balance, tonal contrast, dynamic range, and more importantly: Doesn't show awful halos everywhere.

it is wrong to compare last year iPhone 6s to this years Samsung S7.

Wait for iPhone 7/7S that is the direct rival of Samsung S7.

                        They both have great cameras.

RAW images should be compared, RAW makes a HUGE difference.

What the setting of each phone when take photo or video? Use same condition (such as use Auto mode)? Could not compare if used difference setting on 2 phones when took 1 photo. Such as some website they used difference ISO, speed,... to compare between S7, G5 and 6S (on 1 photo).

in video quality, both device have its own advantage. one is good at object detail, the other one is good at color production.

JMTM, 22 Mar 2016Damn Samsung get your $hit up straight! Here in Canada we ... moreThere's no reason for you to get excited about Android N coz, the new feature that N is going to have has been present in Samsung devices since 2012. You're not using an extremely outdated version on your phone at the moment. 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 are very stable builds and Marshmallow or N are basically only catching up to Samsung as far as features are concerned. Android made a drastic back end change with Lollipop itself. So, there are anyways no performance issues on any device with at least Lollipop on it. So, you can wait for a while. But be assured, you'll get updates for S6, edge and note 5 definitely. :)

                                        I had another look.

Overall, B has a better tonal balance and better dynamic range in daylight shot than A.

A is better than B in low light.

A over-sharpens to a point where it should be noticeable on a large screen.
